Chapter 30

Cammy, Dan, Chun Li and Sakura, who had managed to recover enough strength to walk, continued their way. Sagat was staying behind to help the prisoners, and he didn't need anyone else's help.
Cammy explained that they had to get to the VX missile bay first, before Bison would fire any of the rockets containing the gas. The air strike had provoked him enough in doing so.
They finally made their way to a large set of double doors with two pillars on either side a few feet away from them.
"This is the main hallway to stairs. We should be able to go down to the floor where the missile bay is located." Dan said to the ladies.
Even as he spoke, he was pushing one of the doors open. As he finished opening though, his eyes rested on a particularly nasty sight.
Twelve Shadowloo guards, each armed with FAMASs and lying in wait for them.
Gun fire erupted around Dan as he ran behind the closed door and behind the wall. A munition round from one of the agent's upgraded FAMAS blew the other door away, the explosion nearly burning Dan's pink gi into one not unlike Akuma's. Cammy ran behind the other wall, and Chun Li, after pushing Sakura behind one of the pillars, sidestepped towards the other one for cover, firing a couple of rounds towards the Shadowloo agents with her handgun. She missed both shots.
The FAMAS rounds whizzed past their heads. Sakura sat screaming, unarmed and feeling absolutely helpless. Dan held the FAMAS upright, completely stunned by this unexpected turn of events. Cammy tried to find an opportunity to fire back, but couldn't find one.
"They're trying to kill us." Dan said needlessly.
"I know that, Dan!!!" Cammy shouted back. She was really starting to get annoyed with Dan now.
"Well….."Dan stuttered, shaken by Cammy's outburst. "It's a relatively new experience for me, that's all."
"Happens to me all the time." Cammy said through clenched teeth.
Finally she found her opportunity. Setting the munition round on her modified FAMAS, she turned, fired the grenade, the span back behind the wall. After the explosion that followed, Cammy span back and continually fired her FAMAS. After about ten seconds, she stopped firing.
Dan turned his head, then stepped out. Chun Li followed, and saw the results. Twelve dead agents, along with a few fires.
"Cammy," Chun Li said with a smile, "I never taught you how to share your targets, did I?"

They reached the door that was the entrance to the stairs. Downstairs led to the VX chamber.
They were about to start their descent downwards when Chun Li sensed something. She didn't know, but she felt that someone was close by. Someone she needed to find.
Ryu!
Ryu was calling her, showing her the way to where he was. Upstairs.
"Ryu…."
"Huh?" Cammy turned around and saw her friend looking upstairs. "Chun, what's wrong?"
"Ryu's up there. I have to find him."
Chun Li started to run upstairs. Cammy called to her as she ran.
"Wait, Chun. What do you mean? Chun Li, we need you here! Chun…."
Dan laid a hand on Cammy's shoulder. "Let her go. I know where she's headed. She needs to do this on her own."
"But she could die…."
"Maybe, but we need to focus on the VX. She needs to focus on finding her boyfriend."
Dan walked downstairs towards the VX chamber, leaving Cammy standing there in confusion.
"Boyfriend? When did this come about? How come I don't get to know anything?"

Outside, the battle raged.
Guile had just shot down his third MIG, but was not feeling any better. He had already lost six of his own planes, leaving eighteen left, and there were still about twenty five MIGS to shoot down. Not only that, but the Hind-Ds were giving them a hard time too.
"Could somebody give me a hand here?"
Guile noticed that one of his wingmen, Captain Padilla, was being tailed by a MIG, already he had several cannon holes in his plane, though they weren't anything serious.
"I'm right there, just hang on."
Guile locked onto the enemy MIGS tail and fired. The Sidewinder 9-J smoked it's way toward the MIG, and impacted against it's engine. The MIG spiraled out of control into the jungle, it's pilot given no time to eject.
"Thanks, Colonel."
Guile didn't say anything back, he already was locked on to his next target.

"Sir, VX-1 is ready to fire."
"The weapon is hot, I'm standing by for launch command."
Bison's command center operatives had locked in the coordinates for the first target of VX bombardment, the missile was ready to fire. All that was needed now was Bison's command.
He wasted no time in using it.
"Fire."
"Firing!"
The button was pressed. The first VX rocket was away.

"Missile loose! Missile loose!!"
Back in El Toro, Ken and General McGruder jumped when the news that a VX rocket was fired had suddenly been announced.
"Origin: South America, unknown starting area. Believed to be area where target is, sir."
"What's its heading?"
"Heading five-four degrees north west."
"Speed?"
"Three hundred and fifty knots. It's headed for Florida."
General McGruder looked at Ken in concern. "Miami."
Ken continued staring at the radar screen, eyes wide open in fear.

Guile suddenly noticed a large plume of smoke trailing from the target area, and saw a missile-shaped object flying low below the battle and heading off into the distance.
There was no doubt in his mind that this was one of Bison's VX rockets. He had to stop it.
He dived his Eagle and prepared to follow the rocket. It sailed gracefully over the jungle, heading towards the sea.
Despite some shouting in his ear from Charlie, Guile continued to chase after the rocket. The plan was to wait before the rocket was over the sea, then to hit the engine so that the rocket would crash into the ocean, causing no damage to any civilians. Maybe a few thousand fish would die, but….

Bison sat back in his throne, watching as the screen showed the path of the VX missile on it's way towards its target. A slow smile crept on his face.

Guile continued chasing the missile, arming his cannons. He was almost in range.

Bison suddenly noticed that one of the red planes on his radar was catching up to the missile. The smile disappeared.

Guile fired a short burst of fire at the engines. It just missed. He fired one more burst. It ruptured the engine, causing it to fall.
He had just managed to make a 100-to-one shot. Cammy certainly couldn't comment on his aiming now.

"Missile losing altitude."
McGruder looked with surprise as the missile was shown to be dropping short of its intended target.
"Falling……falling….300 ft, 200, 100 feet."
A red circle increased in size, then disappeared.
"Bogey detonated underwater."

Bison slammed his fist down.
"Shit! Prepare the second rocket, NOW!! Get the Psycho beam ready, I want London fried!"
"Sir, cooling time is not finished yet. It will take another fifteen minutes."
"JUST DO IT!!"
Bison walked out of the control room, wondering whether everything was going to plan as Akuma had promised.

If Sakura was scared, she certainly didn't want to show it. But she knew that she was.
She remained behind the two adults, keeping as close to them as she could. They were walking down the steps towards some sort of chamber, and the only two people she had known in her time in the cell, Chun Li and Sagat, were gone. She didn't know Dan quite so well, and the English girl, she didn't have a clue who she was. All she knew about her was that Chun Li and her were good friends, and that gave her sufficient reason to trust her.
The stairs seemed to last for ever, but they kept moving. Sakura tried not to think about what Ryu was going through, but she couldn't help it. She was so worried about him, and whether Chun Li would find him or not, that she didn't hear Cammy telling her to step back the first time.
They had finally reached the entrance to the VX chamber.

Chun Li held the CZ 75 in both hands and moved upwards towards where she believed Ryu was, pointing the handgun upwards to shoot anyone that was above her.
Her breathing became heavy as the adrenaline pumped through her veins. This was one of the most tense situations she had ever been in.
Suddenly, a Shadowloo guard was spotted walking down the steps. She raised her gun, and fired two rounds into him before he could aim his MP5K at her. He fell down the stairs and slumped against the floor.
She started to run. Ryu was close, she could feel it now.
There was a door that was slightly ajar, and she pushed it with the barrel of her gun. She saw a silhouetted image of someone standing in some vast circular hall, lit only by four torches that were held at head height around the room.
She walked through the door, and thought she could recognise who it was that was standing there. Despite the limited light, she saw a man wearing a gi, the sleeves ripped off, and two red fighting gloves. However, it was the headband that made Chun Li realise who it was.
"Ryu?"
No answer. She continued walking up to the figure. She then noticed that the gi was black. Ryu never wore a black gi before.
"Ryu?"
The shadow replied with a whisper. "Not any more…"
Suddenly in a flash the shadow turned and released his hands forward.
"GO HADOKEN!"
The powerful energy slammed into Chun Li, sending her flying against the wall, screaming. She crashed against the wall and fell down on her bottom, a great pain shuddering through her body.
"R….Ryu?"
As she staggered up, she saw Ryu's face. She looked into his eyes. They weren't the same calm brown eyes she had known. They were blood red.
Suddenly, another man stepped in beside Ryu. Chun Li recognised him as Akuma.
"You…"
Akuma looked at Chun Li, showing little emotion. "Amazing, isn't it? How a man as powerful as Ryu could easily give in to Satsui No Hado."
"What have you done to him?"
"I've made him tap into the greatest power in the history of Shotokan. The Evil Intent. Now he has no feelings for anyone except hatred. Not even you."
Chun Li's heart sank. Ryu was under Akuma's control.
"No…."
"Yes, my dear. And I will show that hatred for you now. Ryu, soften her up for a while, give me some amusement, then kill her."
"Yes…" Evil Ryu spoke calmly.
He then rushed at Chun Li, and pushed his fist forward towards her face. Chun Li managed to jump to the left, causing Ryu's fist to smash into the wall. When he retracted it, Chun Li saw that it had made a huge dent into the wall.
"Ryu, don't you remember me? It's me, Chun Li!" Chun Li shouted.
Her words were traded with a powerful kick into her stomach, pushing Chun Li pack, and causing her to skid across the floor.
Akuma watched as Evil Ryu continued to attack the girl with powerful attacks, showing no emotion in his face. Akuma found no greater pleasure than seeing two lovers fighting each other to the death. It was a sign as to how powerful the Evil Intent was.
A slow smile spread across his face. He knew, now, that he had won.
