Chapter 27

Lacey reached out with her palm and shut Alfana's eyes. Alfana disappeared and in her place was Kristin's red crystal and a purple globe. Lacey lifted the purple globe and stared at it in wonder. Kristin picked up her crystal and tied it around her neck, watching Lacey's eyes.
She stared at the purple swirls in the middle of the seemingly weightless ball. Lacey was about to put it in her pack when it shattered sending purple and green mists swirling about Lacey's body. Lacey let out a large shriek, all Kristin and Gea could do was watch in horror. The purple mist swirled faster and faster creating a whirl wind that became smaller and smaller as it absorbed into Lacey's skin.
When it was all gone Lacey sank to her knees then fell to the floor. Gea rushed over to her and lifted up her head. "Lacey are you okay? Come on talk to me."
Lacey slowly, reluctantly opened her eyes and lifted her hand to rub her temples. Lacey sat up and looked at her hands in which were glowing purple and green.
Alfana's words repeated in her mind. "You have found what you were looking for." Lacey wondered what this new strange gift-or burden would be. Before Lacey had a chance to think about it she heard a loud rumbling sound come from above them. They all rushed out of the temple to see what it was. It was no surprise to Lacey what they had found.
Rufus and a bunch of Soldiers were trying to create a landslide. Their long wooden poles dug under the large boulders that sat atop the ravine. Rufus smiled. "I know you will live through this, I do not fear for our life." He said with almost a tinge of fear in his voice. Before any of them could react the boulders came crashing down and the whole party was buried in debris and rock.
When the dust cleared Lacey rubbed her eyes and tried to stand up, but found her legs were pinned under a fallen pine. She could wriggle her toes and bend her knees so she figured nothing was broken. It was maybe ten minutes until the group found each other, and Gea had yet to be dug out of the large boulder that buried her. "I can't believe Rufus would do this to Gea-me or you perhaps, but not his daughter." Lacey said as she stared at the mess.
Kristin was just about to start yelling, but Rufus cut them all off as they heard his voice echo off of the sides of the ravine. "Better hurry out of this one Saber Wolf, my armies attack in three days, hmm I like surprises don't you? I wonder if Vincent and Natalie think the same?" And with that they were all gone.
Lacey stood there feeling helpless as if she were a feather blowing in the wind. Shiva made her way over to Lacey and yet again her wisdom showed in her eyes. "Remember your gift Sheyala, you are a Cetra. What is your gift?" Lacey's eyes had a spark of thin hope in them just then, and she raised her hand to the sky.
Violet light shot from her fingers creating a pixie like dust around the fallen boulder. Suddenly it began to rise into the air and Gea was free from her trap unharmed. Lacey mentally set down the boulder and it did so as she pictured it. Lacey, Kristin, and Gea stared at her in wonder as Lacey began to laugh.
Magic without materia. What kind of witch she was she did not know, but she intended to find out. Shiva disappeared into her materia and Lacey smiled. Later that day they buried Alfana and created a wonderful tombstone using the ways of the Cetra. The stone was made of All materia, its blue glossy finish reflecting fragments of the sun off it's surface. Engraved in white were letters that said.
~ The guardian of our city will remain here always, and may this name only be known in honor-loving memory of a mother, daughter and protector-Alfana. ~
With that roses were placed on the freshly turned soil. Lacey looked to the sky thinking of only two things. One of which was revenge. Lacey and the others found Anya and her pups near by and Lacey stroked them all in affection they all mounted and set off to the south-where the kingdom of Shang-Hai lay.
They hurried as fast as they could without killing the wolves. The sun set and the crystal light splashed the grass with energy anew. Lacey looked at her hands the glow absorbing back into her skin.
Lacey could only think of one more thing-Sephiroth. Would she make it back home in time to stop Rufus and reclaim her love and honor? Lacey pondered this as she lurched up and down on Anya's back. Kristin looked at her and smiled.
"Just when I thought I lost everything I found all I could ever dream of" Lacey said aloud.
Kristin grinned. "Everything in life is not what we bargain for."
Again Lacey looked at her hands. A promise of hope burned in her soul and heart-she would not be afraid anymore.

Scribe's Poem
Legends of Goddess and Hero's are told
Around the fire of every home
People will remember this story of old
Of a legend no one fore told
A warrior of truth and love
and evil that could poison even a tender dove
Through and through trouble had come
But through the murk thy job hath done
Sun has arisen come and set
Hope prevails always through Saber's amulet.
Shin-Ra tried to conquer all
But Lacey saw that it would fall
Will this story continue to keep good and bad equal?
See in this trilogy's final sequel
