The Evangelion Units


Evangelions or Evas for short are "humaniod fighting machines" that are not robots but instead are mostly biologic in structure and origin. Evangelions seem to share a lot in common in terms of structure and compostion with the 17 angels that appear in the series. The pilots are inserted into the back of the Eva unit by the means of an Entry Plug. The Entry Plugs are filled with a special liquid called "LCL" which fills the pilot's lungs with rich oxygen and such that could be described as "breathing underwater." The pilots "synchronize" with the Evas, which means that anything that happens to the eva unit happens to the pilot and what ever the pilot may think of or do is done by the Eva. The Evas are powered by an Electical cable called an Umbilical Cable attached to the back of the Eva unit. If the cable is disconnected or severed, it has an internal battery that will power the Evangelion unit at full power for 1 minute and nominal power for 4 minutes without the AT field. The Evas can also generate an AT Field for protection. They are armed with a progressive knife. The progressive knife works with ultrasonic vibrations. It can cut though normal matter with ease, but used only when the need arises because it doesn't always work on the Angels.

Eva00 is a prototype model piloted by First Child, Ayanami Rei. This Eva Unit doesn't possess an S2 engine and has to be supplied with power by an external umbilical cable that if severed, the Eva will be given approxamitly 5 minutes of power, 1 minute at full and 4 at nomonial, provided that the Eva doesn't turn on its AT field. Eva00 is known to run amok on some occasions and may seemingly try to harm the pilot Rei or Gendou.

  • Pilot: Ikari Shinji
  • Sex: Male

Eva01 is a test type model piloted by Third Child, Ikari Shinji. This Eva unit has undoubtablly seen by far the most action in its time then all the other Eva units under Nerv. Eva01 is extremely unpredictable and on some occations may move without any energy supplied to it and is deemed by Ritsuko as a "berserker." Also, Eva01 wasn't built from Adam as the other Evas were but instead was built from Lilith.

  • Model Type: First Mass Production Model
  • Pilot: Soryuu Asuka Langley
  • Sex: Female

Eva02 is the first mass production model piloted by Second Child, Asuka Langley and is qouted by her as "The First True Evangelion" and therefore will be the basic template for future Evas being constructed. This Eva possesses all the basics of Eva00 and Eva01 and is powered by an external Umbilical cable like the former models. Also, the strength of the AT field is just the same as both Eva00 and Eva01.

  • Model Type: Mass Production Model
  • Pilot: Suzuhara Touji
  • Sex: Male

Eva03 was a mass production model that didn't last very long when the 13th Angel named Bardiel took control of it while the human pilot, Forth Child, Touji, was still within. Eva03 was eventually destroyed by Eva01, but luckly the trapped pilot survived.

  • Model Type: Experimental S2 Model

  • Sex: Unknown

Eva04 is an experimental model equipped with an experimental S2 engine that works very much like that of the Angels. When an Eva unit is said to be equipped with an S2 engine, it will have unlimited power sources and will no longer need an external Umbilical cable. The S2 engine works by converting matter into energy without any losses, but this was all cut short during the initial activation at the second branch of Nerv in Nevada(In America), which resulted in a accident. The result was the second branch of Nerv being completely wiped off the map, along with the new Eva04 and the newly developed S2 engine.

  • Model Type: Next Generation Mass Production Models
  • Pilot: All controlled by Dummie Plugs
  • Sex: Unknown

Eva05 to 13 are the next generation mass production models that all possess an S2 engine, which gives them unlimited power and thus, doesn't need an Umbilical cable. These Evas are capable of extremely rapid regeneration of lost parts or damages and are relentless in their attacks, as none are piloted by human pilots. Instead, each unit is controlled a Dummy Plug so morallity isn't an issue for the Evas when engaged in combat. If that wasn't enough, Eva05-13 are all capable of flight and could be described as vultures hovering and circling you in a formation before they make the kill. These Evangelions are by far the best of all Evas in terms of power and overall structurial design.
