Yuu Yuu Hakusho Infatuation - by Melissa Koh: safyre@jade-court.darkgod.net - - website: http://safyre.tsx.org - She stared at him, the heart-throb of all the girls in the entire school, from her seat. Which was not strategic, but it was just at the angle where she could see him--Minamino Shuuichi. How feminine he looked, with his long red hair and large, bright-green eyes that anyone and everyone would die for. His slender form only enhanced the effect of his beauty. Yes, beauty. Shuuichi was not handsome, or attractive, but he was certainly beautiful. He was the envy of all the young men in the high school, not to mention half of the girls in his class. She didn't blame them in the least bit. Who would? He had the most perfect face, the most mesmerising eyes, and not to forget the fact that he was a good fighter. She knew his secret, unlike his ignorant admirers who had the audacity to claim that they knew every inch of him. Like real. They only knew what he wanted them to know. In simpler terms: not much. She almost laughed aloud right then and there. But she would not. The teacher teaching the class would give her withering glare while the rest of her classmates, including Shuuichi, would stare at her. Shuuichi--Kurama...she knew both his names, his human and youko form. She wondered what his reaction would be like if he knew that she knew. Heck, she wasn't even part of his circle, even though she had the right to be. She harboured powerful Reiki within her, and by the time she graduated from high school, she would be a full-class Reiki Master. The only thing was that she had not been recruited by Reikai, which probably was a good thing. She didn't want more work. she reflected, She gazed at Shuuichi's form dreamily. She knew a lot about him. He did not know, but his sudden appearance in Ningenkai fifteen years ago had disrupted the senses of many of the psychics here. Her mother had been one of these talented people, and her gift was passed down to her next generation, who was her. She didn't know whether to hate him or not because of that. If he had not appeared in Ningenkai around that time when her mother was carrying her, there was a high chance that she would be free of the "special" powers. She paused in her thoughts for a moment and asked herself earnestly whether she detested her talents. Perhaps she did--when she was younger. Before she learnt to control her powers, everywhere she went, she saw things she should not see. Even at this age, she was still weak at controlling her Sight, which was how she recongised Shuuichi--Kurama in the first place. Knowing his secret sometimes cheered her up. Like the many girls in the school, she was infatuated with him. Even though she knew that he was not totally human, she was still infatuated with him. But she knew that he would never notice her, even if she did reveal her strong Reiki, which she carefully concealed from him. First of all, she was far too homely, and she was no beauty. She did not excel in anything particular except in languages, which she fared quite well. But her achievements were always overshadowed by him. Which proved her point entirely. She did not know whether to hate him or not. But there was one thing he could not do, and that was argue efficiently. Anyone who was not blind could see that he spent his entire life avoiding arguements with everybody. One could scream insults at him for a full twenty-four hours straight and the only reaction that poor unfortunate soul would recieve was probably a bashing from Shuuichi's friends. Especially from the one called Yuusuke. It would take one sometime to figure out whether he was beating one up to avenge his friend, or simply for the pure pleasure of it. Not that she wanted to try. She might be dumb at times, but she was not dumb enough to look for death...yet. The "yet" trailed on. She was not in a hurry to meet death yet, especially since she had witnessed the foul-ups the Reikai Guide had made first-hand. Thinking about the guide was making her nervous. She decided not to think about her at the moment. She shook her head violently, which did not go unnoticed by the teacher, who promptly asked. "Miss Koujin, are you feeling sick?" Koujin Miyu shook her head meekly in reply. She felt her face growing hot at the curious stares given by her classmates. She knew that her face was paler than usual that day, and with all the "encouragement" stares given by her classmates, she knew with dead certainty that her face was drained of all colour. Which meant a high possibilty that she would end up in the sick bay soon. prayed Miyu as she stared blankly at her textbook. Her face should be powder white by now. She was relieved when someone stood up and offered to take her to the sick bay-- until she realised that it was Shuuichi. thought Miyu as she stared at Shuuichi in pure, unfiltered terror. It wasn't because she was afraid of him, but simply because she had caught the looks of doom her female classmates were givng her. She was good at using Reiki at defending herself from youkais and all, but she could not possibly use her powers on her classmates, could she? reasoned Miyu logically. At that, she allowed Shuuichi to help her to the sick bay, and almost enjoyed the opportunity to be near him...for once. .......................................... Author's notes: Why I wrote this, I don't want to know. Miyu is a character whom I'm including in my next fic, "Inori", though what role she's supposed to play is a little beyond me... - End Fic -
