Clamp Campus Detectives Nokoru's Match - by Melissa Koh: safyre@jade-court.darkgod.net - - website: http://safyre.tsx.org - Chapter 1: I am Yukino Fuukei "That's Clamp Campus?" asked the girl as she looked out of the porthole of the private airplane. She turned her head slightly to look at the dark-haired woman beside her, presumely her mother, who nodded. "Hai, Fuukei, that's your new school," replied the woman as her daughter resumed her favourite past time--staring at the scenery of her new school. Her only child's face was unreadable as she looked at the whole island with faint amusement, perhaps because of the odd formation of the architecture. Or maybe it was something else. Whatever. Fuukei might be her daughter, but the woman did not understand her. The raven-haired child had the weirdest sense of humor that sometimes scared her mother. Fuukei raised an eyebrow when she spotted her new school--Clamp Elementary. It didn't look like a school to her. It looked more like a holiday resort. Which was no joke, since she could spot the botanical gardens, the zoo, the park and the shopping mall from her position. And the fact that her school resembled a hotel made no better impression. wondered the girl of twelve in amusement. No, she was not shocked; neither was she amazed, but she was infinitely amused. Yes, definitely amused. She had heard about this school, but never thought that it would be so interesting. Fuukei decided as she leaned back against her seat. She flashed a huge grin at her mother. .......................................... "Nokoru-sama!" The blond-haired boy of twelve halted in his footsteps as he heard the voices of his adoring fan club of girls. He tilted his head to look at them, giving all of them his most charming smile. The girls shrieked in happiness, overjoyed that their Prince Charming was smiling at *them*. A couple of girls actually fainted because of his smile. "May I help you?" asked Nokoru in his usual soft, charming voice. His large blue eyes twinkled, sending more girls to the state of unconsciousness. This was too much for them. This was one of the three cutest elementary boys, and he was actually talking to them. The more agressive girls began hounding him with their seemingly endless, useless, boring questions, but Nokoru didn't mind. He was used to their reaction already. After years of persistent hounding from girls like the ones before him, he had learnt not to mind much, and had even adopted a weird sense of humor. Finally, the bell rang, signalling the start of the classes. Nokoru bowed and politely excused himself. The girls sighed in contentment as they watched their Prince Charming walk away, until they realised that they were going to be late for their classes. With an amazing burst of speed, the girls managed to enter their respective classes before the teachers arrived, with a couple of exceptions here and there. And so began another day in Clamp Campus. .......................................... Fuukei had the strangest feeling that she was lost. she corrected herself as she wandered past the cafeteria. She paused for moment to check the time, and almost fainted when she realised that she was_extremely_ late for class. thought Fuukei with wry humor. She looked around vainly for some kind of directory, but found none. Muttering to herself about why the school had to be so big, she walked straight on, not even having the slightest idea of where she was heading. Fuukei glanced around and noticed that she was the only elementary school student in the cafeteria. Deciding that she was not going to miss her class, even though it might mean detention on her first day, she stalked up to a lady to ask for directions. The young lady was in her early twenties, perhaps younger; Fuukei did not know. She was one of the few people who could not evaluate a person's age even if her life depended on it. The lady seemed surprised that Fuukei was still around, and was even more startled when she found out that Fuukei was extremely lost. Until Fuukei explained that it was her first day in Clamp Campus. "Oh! No wonder! Don't feel bad. I used to have trouble finding my way around. This campus is so huge that sometimes I lose my way too, even till now," confided the young woman. Fuukei asked herself as the young woman rattled on. Fuukei figured that it was either she interrupt her speech or she would never get to her class at all. The lady seemed surprised, then blushed as Fuukei made her request again. "Oh! I'm sorry! What class are you in? I'll take you there myself," offered Jenny. Fuukei nodded her head gratefully. "Thank you. I'm in the elementary school, class 6Z." Jenny shrieked loudly, almost piercing Fuukei's eardrums. "You're in the same class as Nokoru-sama!" Fuukei gave her a blank look, then asked, "Nokoru-sama wa donata desu ka?" "The cutest boy in the world," sighed the brunette in a lovesick tone. Fuukei looked at her doubtfully. It did not answer her question, and only made her more confused than ever. Deciding that she would get no where by asking Jenny, Fuukei tactfully suggested, "Jenny-san, I'm late for class, and I have no wish to do detention on the first day of school." Jenny gave her a blank look before nodding her head. Then she led Fuukei to her class. .......................................... Hayashi-sensei was not in a particularly good mood. His new student was not only late, but very late. Half an hour had passed, and he had not even begun his lesson. That was rather annoying, to say in the mildest way possible. There was a knock on the classroom door. "Come in," snapped the irritated teacher. The door opened, and revealed his new student. She bowed. "Gomen nasai, Sensei. I'm late." Hayashi-sensei glared at her. He asked sharply, "Your excuse?" The student looked up and stared straight into his eyes. "I lost my way." The teacher almost gasped. His new student had the most startling eyes he had ever seen. The pupils had no definite colour at all, ranging from a dark shade of purple to a light shade of green. Her new classmates were busy chattering, finding it amusing that someone could actually lose her way in the campus. "I see. This time you are excused, but there will not be a second time," he said uncertainly. He rapped the table twice, signalling for the class to be quiet. Then he cleared his throat. "Class, attention. This is your new classmate." The girl took it from there. She walked up to the blackboard, picked up a white chalk and wrote her name. She turned to face the class and smiled brightly. "I am Yukino Fuukei. Dozo yoroshiku onegai shimasu." The class stopped talking when she introduced herself. Briefly, Hayashi-sensei wondered whether it was because of her sweet, crystal-clear voice or her amazing eyes, but decided that it was probably due to the fact that his top student--Nokoru--was staring at her as though she was the only person alive in the whole world. The teacher was more than amazed when he saw that Fuukei was not even looking at Nokoru with lovestruck eyes as he had expected. decided Hayashi-sensei as he arranged for his new student to sit beside Nokoru. he hoped. Like everyone else in the campus, he knew Nokoru's reputation. And after Nokoru began the Clamp Campus detectives, things were starting to get slightly out of hand. What Hayashi-sensei didn't know was that Fuukei had a sense of humor as bad as Nokoru's, and the two of them would probably dominate the entire student population with their humor. But what the teacher didn't know won't kill him...yet. .......................................... Chapter 1: I am Yukino Fuukei ~ End - End Part - Clamp Campus Detectives Nokoru's Match - by Melissa Koh: safyre@jade-court.darkgod.net - - website: http://safyre.tsx.org - Chapter 2: One Thing Leads To Another... Imonouyama Nokoru was rarely perturbed by a girl. No, not him. With his golden-blond hair, dazzling blue eyes and undeniably gentle manners, he was every girl's idea of Prince Charming. Or so every girl in Clamp Campus---be it the kindergarten, the elementary, the high schools [junior *and* senior] and even the University, not to mention girls from *other* schools---believed. He was a dream come true, a *real* gentlemen who understood the code of chivalry, courage and completely willing to bear the burdens of solving mysteries of the Clamp Campus, particularly if the matter concerned women. Which, of course, began the infinitely famous Clamp Campus Detectives. With him, the youngest child of the Imonouyama family [believed to be the ninth], chairman of Clamp Elementary and proud valedictorian of his level, sitting at the top, leading his fellow committee members, his juniors to be more precise, to help all women in the world. Or in Clamp Campus, at least. But, in the current situation, he was *not* working on his favourite pastime. Instead, he was sitting in front of his computer, fingers tap-dancing across the keyboard in one dark blur. The CPU hummed a tuneless melody, echoing off the walls of the spacious office, along with the insistent tapping of the keys. Nokoru leaned back, arms rested by his side, and stared at the computer monitor, lips pulled back to form a self-satisfied smile. The CPU hrummphed, as if thoroughly annoyed by the boy. For what reason, however, perhaps it would be best if it remained in the dark. The boy, no more than twelve years old, strummed his fingers rhythmically against the arm of the chair. Soon, it became a series of beats as the CPU took its own sweet time to complete downloading the file. Nokoru's smile remained firmly plastered on his face. Not even a single twitch of the corner of his lips. He sat up straight, gleaming eyes focused intensely on the screen. One last sputter escaped before a pop-up screen flashed "Download complete" before fading to suit the backkground colour, revealing the information it concealed. Nokoru leaned forward eagerly, scanning through the file with wide eyes. Across the screen, in neat, bold capitals, were: YUKINO FUUKEI [insert kanji & symbol of Venus here] CLAMP CAMPUS ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT 6TH YEAR CLASS Z BORN ON: 3/6 PISCES BLOOD TYPE: O TRANSFERRED TO CLAMP CAMPUS ELEMENTARY IN 6TH YEAR, FROM KYOWA ELEMENTARY Nokoru blinked. "I think I've heard Yukino Fuukei somewhere before..." he murmured to no one in particular, "but where?" He threw a challenging look at the walls, as if daring them to reply. There was none, but Nokoru had expected that. Nevertheless, he sighed aloud. he decided, feeling a little less than comfortable when he realised how little he knew about his new classmate. It wasn't that he was nosy, but it was his hobby to keep track of the student population. And his new classmate intrigued him. She had a strange charm about her that drew attention like the opposite ends of two magnets. Maybe it was her eyes. He smiled at the memory of the opal-like eyes sweeping the class with one glance. He hadn't missed the bright-eyed mischief that lay hidden beneath her gentle demeanour. What puzzled him the most was the reason behind her transfer. Kyowa Schools were among the best schools in Japan; some said they were a worthy rival of CLAMP Campus. Others agreed that even if Kyowa Schools weren't CLAMP Campus's rivals, they were at least a formidable match. Nokoru couldn't decide. After all, he had never been to any of the Kyowa Schools before, and being schooled in CLAMP Campus, it wouldn't do the other campus justice to judge from his point of view. It just didn't make sense that Yukino Fuukei would want to be transferred to some other school. Not to mention that it was her final year. He shrugged. Long ago, he concluded that women were mysteries, and while he would try his best to understand them, he couldn't claim that he understood their every agenda behind every seemingly innocent gesture. Still, it wouldn't hurt to try to learn more, ne? He straightened his back, leaning forward slightly, and began typing with renewed interest. * * * * Fuukei stared helplessly at the wide expanse of wilderness before her, then paused, reconsidering her choice of words. She wasn't really trapped in wilderness. It just looked that way to her, which was basically a misconception of botanical gardens overflowing with greenery and not having the slightest idea of where she was. Oh, sure, she knew she was in the Botanical Gardens; her original intention was to go there in the first place, But she hadn't counted on losing her way. Pause. Maybe just a little. It wouldn't be the first time anyway. The campus was a tad too big for her to move without losing her way. Then again, she couldn't find her way even if the campus was one individual building. She grimaced at the thought, not liking it in the least bit. Given the choice, she wouldn't explore a new, unfamiliar territory without help. she thought, surveying her surroundings critically. A breeze rustled the green canopy, teasing sakura petals into showering on her. Despite herself, a smile forced its way and found itself a place on her face, as she romped through the sakura rain without restraints, a light laughter escaping from her throat. Petals fluttered, falling in swirl-like patterns at the unaccounted disturbance. But the raven-haired girl hardly cared. At present, lost or not, she was having the kick of her life---chasing after sakura petals. An idle thought slipped through her mind, before fading away completely. Her laughter resounded through the park hauntingly. Birds of all species flapped their wings and squawked, startled. Couples halted in their confessions of love, cocking an ear and listening to the ghostly wail of sorrow. Someone had better make a report to the CLAMP Campus Detectives about a ghost in the Botanical Gardens. Sakura petals, pink and white, continued to rain down endlessly. * * * * Chapter 2: One Thing Leads To Another ~ End Author's Notes [Added on 25.01.2000]: Due to the fact that there are readers for this particular fic, I am obliged to give a (hopefully) reasonable explanation as to why I stopped writing this fanfic. The main reason is largely due to the fact that I don't usually write fluff, thus I ran out of ideas on the continuity _very_ quickly. The second chapter was only produced because someone had emailed me asking for a continuity (thanks to Suoh no Miko). The second reason is due to the unfortunate fact that I'm not particularly familiar with CLAMP's works and their style. Really. Go though the titlelist of my fanfics and you'd probably notice that this is the only CLAMP fanfic that I've ever written since I first began in 1997 ^_^ And now, for the third reason. It's nothing spectacular, just the fact that I've stopped fanfiction writing at the end of October 1999. One of the reasons for the discontinuity was because of my exams. Also, I wanted to concentrate more on original fiction writing, especially the development of the White Sakura Foundation ^_^' If anyone has been looking forward to more of 'Nokoru's Match', I am sorry for disappointing you.
