Okay, so this month's feature is later than usual, but that's because I couldn't find any suitable original fics. Therefore, instead of the normal features, i.e. original fiction, I'll be recommending some of the fanfictions that I've read and liked. Yes, I'm aware of the policies -- I created them myself, after all's said & done -- but the heck with it.

Comments or requests for a specific genre, please email me or leave a message in the messageboard.

Title: Copper Coins
Author: Debra Fran Baker
Genre: Fandom: Xena/Hercules; slash
Location: http://www.panix.com/~dfbaker
Comments: Ares learns morality, honour, compassion and love -- with all due credits to Joxer. The portrayal of Joxer, while not entirely in line with the one on the screen, is rather striking, particularly when his clumsiness and flaws are turned to his advantage, making him appear, well, almost saintly. Can't say that I dislike his new image ^^' After all, he is Tim in SeaQuest ^^'
Title: Counterpoint
Author: Miriam Heddy
Genre: Fandom: Xena/Hercules; slash
Location: http://www.asan.com/users/pongo/
Comments: What makes this series stand out among the A/J fics is the development of the plot and characters. Though the tune is the still same (Joxer gaining immortality one way or the other), I would say that the storyline is well-developed. There's no rush, a steady flow as the Miriam explores the inner thoughts & emotions of Joxer & Ares.
Title: The Fool & The God
Author: Shamenka
Genre: Implied slash; drama; angst; fandom: Xena/Hercules
Location: http://members.tripod.co.uk/shamenka/index.html
Comments: Rather long, spanning about 400 odd K, but a good read. Unlike most of the fics featured this month, slash is only mentioned, and furthermore, 'is not between Ares & Joxer. Shamenka has done a rather complete coverage, making this particular fic a near epic in its own right. Take note that this fic has elements of child abuse and its fair share of violence, so if you're in for sweet romance and fluff, maybe you should reconsider your choice of destination?
Title: The Journey
Author: Merlin
Genre: Fandom: Xena/Hercules; slash
Location: http://www.fifthhorseman.freeserve.co.uk/lair.htm
Comments: One of the Joxer/Ares fics on the Net, and one that doesn't have violence or rape involved. Not particularly long, but worth reading if you're for romance without the angst & bloodshed ^^
Title: Imagos
Author: Randi
Genre: Implied slash; fandom: Xena/Hercules
Location: http://www.rtis.com/nat/user/chimera/legends.htm
Comments: What can I say? Wonderful story, good plotline, and makes sense to the reader, even if he/she has never watched an episode of the issue with the Sovereign world. Not that it's heavily involved in the latter, but that's not the issue here. Details of the settings are rather well-written, neither too brief nor too draggy. Just the right length to keep the reader interested ^^
Title: Love Potion No. Nine
Author: Rose (sorry, I couldn't locate her email address)
Genre: Fandom: Xena/Hercules; slash
Location: http://www.sockiipress.org/joxerotica/
Comments: I couldn't locate the email address of the author, much less her website url, so I'm linking to the archive where I found her fic. This fic probably can't be considered as comedy or parody, but it does hold elements of humour, and maybe a bit of expressive language. Romance is the keyword here, and see Ares become infatuated with Joxer...
Title: The Persistence of Memory
Author: Sidewinder & Rose
Genre: Fandom: Xena/Hercules/SeaQuest; slash; mild bondage
Location: http://sidewinder72.tripod.com/
Comments: Okay, this is one of the strangest A/J fics I've ever chanced across, but the descriptions & details of the settings caught my eye, so here it is ^^
Title: When Hellmouths Collide
Author: Kimberley Wells & Martha Rector
Genre: Fandom: Hercules/Buffy the Vampire Slayer; crossover
Location: http://www.rtis.com/nat/user/chimera/legends.htm
Comments: I won't say that this is a parody because it isn't. It's actually one of the few fics on the Net that actually preserves the essence of the individual shows, right down to the snappy quips and quirks of the individual characters. Added on with the humour that both shows harbour but so lacking in fanfics, this is one fic you simply cannot miss.
Title: The White Key
Author: Rituko
Genre: Yaoi; angst; violence
Location: http://www.geocities.com/rtuko/
Comments: The only original fic recommendation for this month ^^' Granted, it's part of Amothea's Key fics, but unlike the others, 'The White Key' doesn't have the fluff or romance we see in the others. If you're in for dark stories without fluff or saccharine sweetness, go for this.
