Dragon Ball Z Anime Adventure Game

House Rules

What Powers do characters get from the start of thePiccolo game?

Earth Characters - In our campaign, all characters from Earth get the skills Hide Power Level and Sense Power Level. The fighters from Earth are usually better trained in the mental skills than other fighters. Think about it. Frezia (who was really a massive power at the time of the Frezia Saga) was a power house of energy, but when Goku was fighting him, he noticed that if Frezia couldn't see Goku with his eyes, he didn't know where he was. He couldn't sense Goku.

Nameccians - Nameccians get Hide Power Level also. They were constantly hiding their power level when they went up against Freezia. They obviously coundn't Sense Power Level though, or they would probably have fled when seeing how much stronger Freezia was.

Saiyans - Saiyans get Saiyan Armor, scouters and their natural Saiyan abilities. What else do you want pal? If the GM wants, they can give the Saiyan a personal space pod, like the ones used by Vegeta and Nappa. Saiyans can not have the abilities Sense Power Level and Hide Power Level. This shows that the character has always used the scouter and has not had the need to develop these types of skills.

Aliens - Not only Saiyans get scouters! The Ginyu force had scouters as well. If the GM allows it (and it makes sense) alien characters can have scouters. These characters can not have the abilities Sense Power Level and Hide Power Level, though. This shows that the character has always used the scouter and has not had the need to develop these types of skills.

Gravity Training

Humans - Humans max out their gravity training at 20 times normal gravity. This is shown at King Kai's planet. King Kai's planet is 10 times normal gravity. Tien, Yamcha and Chiaotzu are all human and they didn't seem to have too much trouble. In fact, according to the series, they finished the training faster than Goku. This shows that humans can attain 10 times gravity levels and beyond. Unfortunately, humans can only go up 2 levels of gravity per year, and can go up to a maximum of 20 gravity levels.

Nameccians - Nameccians seem stronger than humans. If you think about it, there were many skilled fighters with Power Levels above Yamcha's and Tien's after they trained under Kami. Also, Nameccians seem to be able to handle a lot more than humans. They can stretch and regenerate and do all kinds of things with their bodies. For this, I am giving them a gravity limit of 40 times normal gravity. (This may be raised later)

Saiyans - No gravity limit. Saiyans can handle much more gravities than any other known race. That is one of the abilities that makes them so strong. They can go up thousands of gravity levels and go even further.

Equipment

Capsules - Bulma's dad, Dr. Briefs invented devices called capsules. These capsules look like small, palm sized, cylindrical containers with a button on one end. If the button is pushed, the capsule opens and something appears in a puff of smoke. The capsules can hold various things. Some hold meals for 10 (or one if it is Goku). Others hold an entire living quarters or small house. The thing they are most often used for is to carry vehicles in a hip pocket. Hover cars, hover bikes, submarines, boats, airplanes... you name it, they have a capsule for it.

Dragon Ball Locator - Guess what this does?

Saiyan Battle Armor - Not only stylish. This armor can give extra protection when the battle heats up. The armor won't burn up while flying at high speeds or flying through the atmosphere. Also, it adds 50 extra points to Defense when worn.

Scouters - Can accurately read a character's power level unless they are hiding it.

Characteristics

Physical - In the game this characteristic helps Power Up, beginning Power Level, Defense, and Hits.

Mental - Used for Initiative. To get who goes first, roll a number of dice equal to Mental. Power can be spent to temporarily raise a character's Mental.

Combat - Used for Combat skills. Very useful in DBZ!

Move - Move isn't used for much of anything in the given rules. I have come up with some uses for it.

Boosted Actions cannot raise above a character's Move.

Example:

Goku boosts his actions for an extra 10 actions in one phase. To do this, he has to have a Move of at least 11 (10 for the extra actions plus 1 for the regular action that round).

In the Saiyan Saga, Goku's Move was 110. Wow! That means he could take a total of 109 boosted actions plus his normal action in one phase.

Move can also be used to tell if a character can outrun someone. For instance. Goku has a Move of 110. Vegeta has a Move of 120. If Goku wants to outrun Vegeta, he will have to spend some Power to raise it for a couple phases.

Skills

Fighting - This can be used for two things in my campaign: Hitting and Blocking.

Hitting - Obviously, to hit an opponent without a weapon, you will use your Fighting skill.

Blocking - If an opponent if taking a swing at you, you have three options: You can Dodge it using Evasion, let them hit you, or you can use your Fighting to block the swing.

Obviously you can't block Energy attacks this way (unless they come up with rules for that soon). And you can't block weapons with this.

Evasion - Use this to evade energy attacks, weapons, and fighting techniques, flying cows, killer rabbits, and whatever else is coming at you.

Weapon - Used with knives, clubs, swords, and other weapons. Also, you can use this to block other weapons with your weapon.

Power - Characters use this skill to fire energy blasts or use other energy related powers.

Body - Need to lift a mountain or a large boulder? You'll need to have a high Body to perform these feets.

Mind - Mind is used for detecting Power Levels, hiding Power Levels, feeling someone's presence, Telekinesis, and whatever else the GM tells you it does.

Powers

Hide Power Level - Characters with this ability can sense a character's power level. They do not know the exact number, but they can sense about how powerful a person is in comparison to themselves, or others. Mind is used for this task. People accustomed to hiding their Power Level don't have to make a Mind check, but characters learning this trick still have to make the check.

Example:

Kinesta, a namek fighter, doesn't want to let Vegeta to know  how much weaker he is than him, so he hides his power level. When Vegeta scans Kinesta with his scouter, he only get a reading of 300.

Telekinesis

Mind can also be used for Telekinesis. Piccolo used this to lift pyramids into the air when he was training to fight the Vegeta and Nappa in the Saiyan Saga. Even Goku (who isn't the brightest character) has used this trick to lift objects into the air with his mind.

To do this, a character has to make a successful Mind roll with the difficulty being equal to the difficulty for a physical test for the same weight. For instance, Piccolo uses telekinesis to lift a pyramid. It takes a 28 Physical to lift a large building. Piccolo has a 20 Mind total. That means he has to roll an 8 or more on his roll (20 + 8 = 28). He rolls a 12. That gets him a total of 32. The pyramid slowly and carefully lifts off the sand, moved by the power of Piccolo's mind.

Moving objects at a faster pace, or throwing objects doubles the difficulty for the check.

Sense Power Level

Example:

Kinesta can sense that his power level (2,000) is much lower than Nappa's power level (4,500), but is much higher than Yajirobe's (500).

Nappa DefeatedSpending Experience Points

Before you go and spend all of your experience points, let me tell you how we spend character points. When experience points are awarded by the game master, all characters must spend half of their experience points on power level. This makes the game a bit more like the show, where your power level increases after every fight.

This also keeps players from abusing the rules and keeping their power level lower so they get more experience points from fights.

Raising Power Level

10 Exp. = 10 Power Level Points

Power Level is a statistic that should be encouraged to raise, as in DBZ people's power levels go up after every fight. To do this, Power Level was made the cheapest cost to raise. A player spends 10 EXP. and gets 10 added to their Power Level.

Raising Skills

1/2 x the current rating (round down).

Example: Vegeta just got his butt stomped into the ground by Goku and has recieved experience points from the severe beating. He is pissed off and wants to beat Goku next time so he decides to raise his Fighting skill (30) up to 33. To do this, he must spend a total of 46 points. He must spend 15 points to raise it to 31, 15 more to raise it to 32, and 16 more to raise it to 33.

Raising Characteristics

1 x the current rating.

Example: Goku wants to raise his Physical (24) to 26. He trains and gets experience points. To do this, he will have to spend 49 experience points. Then he spends 24 to raise his Physical to 25, and 25 to raise it to 26.

Raising Hits

Raise your Physical. Yes, that's right. In my game, if you want to raise this, you'll have to raise your Physical Characteristic. It raises with it in my game.

Raising Defense

Raise your Physical. Yes, that's right. In my game, if you want to raise this, you'll have to raise your Physical Characteristic. It raises with it in my game.

Example of Experience Point Spending

Sparks has just kicked the tar out of his opponent. Skarks' power level is 450. His opponent's power level was 1350.

Take half away to raise Power Level

Now Sparks has 15 points to put wherever he wants.

He decideds to raise his Weapon Skill from 10 to 11. To raise skills, we spend experience points equal to half of the current rating.

He now wants to raise his Movement to 10. This will cost 10 points since Characteristics cost experience points equal to their current level.

1350 / 450 = 3

3 x 10 = 30 Experience Points

30 - 15 = 15
Power Level = 450 + 15 = 465

Leftover Experience = 15

1/2 x 10 = Cost 5 Experience

1 x 10 = Cost 10 Experience Points
