"The arm of a warrior, the heart of a lover, and the soul of a poet."

If you want to know the basics of what I'm about, you've come to the right place...
First off, my real name is Joe Doyle.  I am a raving roleplayer, and currently play White Wolf games, Vampire: The Masquerade mostly, with a smattering of AD& D thrown in.  I find that it makes my life seem less frantic if I periodically immerse myself in a reality much darker then our own.  My gaming group, The Estranged, are all a bunch of weirdoes who write off insanity as genius, and are basically among the coolest people I know.  The characters we play, as well as the personas we adopt on line, are locked in The Chantry.

If you have looked at the other pages, you know that I like to write poetry, and some of them actually have merit (or so I'm told). I also write novellas, heroic fantasy type, of which three are almost done. As is the case with most writers, I a man avid reader as well. My favorite authors are J.J.R. Tolkien, David Eddings, and Raymond E. Feist, along with Anne Rice, Terry Goodkind and others. My library is quite extensive, and at any given time you can see me with a book in my hand, no matter where I am.

Perhaps this affinity for fantasy novels and roleplaying games has led to my interest in the occult and supernatural.  It's a strictly academic interest, as I am a Christian (though I doubt any church would accept my slightly unorthodox views on the actual character and demeanor of God).  If any of you have read any Anne Rice, you know what I mean when I say I would make a good member of the Talamasca. For those who haven't, they are an organization dedicated to study of the occult, but not to the practice.  I have no desire to practice anything even remotely verging on witchcraft or the like, but the beliefs and organizations which do fascinate me.  Like I said, academic interest is it.

This is not to say that all gamers will become raving devil worshipers.  I haven't, and I've been gaming for about 14 years. Most of us are just taken with the theatrical aspects of roleplaying, and like those who read alot (I speak from experience), we see it as a form of escape from the real world.  Any type of escapism can be taken to extremes, but a good gamer knows the difference.  It's the one's that are already unstable that take it too far.

My tastes in music are what you might call eclectic.  If I hear more than 3 country songs in a row, I wanna beat up a cowboy, but other than that, I listen to just about anything.  Industrial and Ska are my favorites, with Swing right behind. Nine Inch Nails and Switchblade Symphony are up there on my list.

Of course, my life would not be complete without my wife, Nicole.  We were married on May 20th, 2000 (after I propsed to her at a Renaissance Faire, in full garb), and we have very little in common beyond similar beliefs and morals.   But somehow we seem to get along better all the better for this.  This makes no sense to me, but she seems to understand it perfectly.  I guess I'm supposed to take her word for it on this one (the same with most things women tell men.).  I love her, though, so at least that part makes sense.

My other interests include rappelling and motorcycles. I am, I must admit, an adrenaline junkie with an appalling lack of a sense of self preservation. The faster, the more dangerous, the better. I hope, sometime in the future, to try my hand at skydiving, and eventually, BASE jumping. All of this, of course, provides no small amount of heartburn to my mother and my wife.

There is more, of course, so if you have anything you want to talk about, or questions to ask, drop me a line. I have ICQ, and enjoy chats, so look me up.
