Yeah, she's drow, so what?? She is a drow born in Menzoberranzan, the daughter of the Arch-Mage of the Underdark city. Brought up in the care of the Great Wizard of the drow, instead of in the care of a matron mother, to become a priestess of Lloth, she is able to maintain her spark and zest for life in the cruel Underdark. As this time period in which she was brought up is directly after the devastation caused by a one Drizzt Do'Urden, she is able to leave the Underdark, mostly unnoticed, and seek out a new life on the surface. As a wizard and part priestess, as all drow females are born to be, she strikes out to find her niche on the harsh surface, and a way to retain her innate drow abilities and magic.

Fyodor is our friendly berserker from Rasheman, land of the berserker fighters. He is on a quest to find a magical Windwalker Amulet which is rumored to be able to allow him to control his berserker rage. He runs into Liriel while he is following a drow mercenary party, who has stolen the amulet, and Liriel proceeds to try to stop him from senselessly killing himself in the dangerous Underdark. The two eventually team up and begin their searches.
