The Nimbac Wars
" I am not that fool Derthal's son anymore, for I have a new and far more powerful father, his name is Rao" Nimbac the destroyer |
Even without Ascan's advice, the Ascan empire flourished in culture and power, expanding its territory to all of Karnar during the rulership of Gherthan, the first emperor, and during the rulership of the second and third emperors.
After the death of the third great ascan emperor, Rhelas, the crown of Karnar was bestowed upon his first born son, a brave and handsome warrior who was destined to be the greatest of all ascan emperors, his name was Inthash.
With Emperor Inthash's wise rulership, the great naval armada of the ascan empire was created, and sent to explore the nearby islands and continents under the command of a young general from the south, Ascal Herloth.
Under General Ascal's command, the empire extended its borders over the vast sea, encompassing most of the known world, bringing peace and culture to all conquered lands. It was through this travels that the elves' whereabouts were finally known, they had to a heavily forested region they called "Astar".
No military action was ever taken against the elven land, knowing that its arrogant ocuppants would never accept ascan culture, and would constantly wage war on humans should they be bothered.
The ascan empire now was the most powerful in the world, holding nearly all of the known world in its grasp, challenged by none. A few rebellions appeared in the first years, but they would not last long once the warriors of Ascan showed their supernatural powers to the revolutionaries.
A few months after General Ascal's thriumphant return to the capital, our beloved emperor became ill. It is said that the great general stood by his side during all of his painful agony. The clerics of Ascan were not able to save him, such were the desires of Kindramar, and no man may challenge them.
So it was that Inthash the wise died after two months of agony, and all the empire grieved his loss.
Derthel, a ruthless and ambitious prince became the heir of the empire, and this did not please the royal counselors, for they knew that his heart was full of hatred.
As Derthel was being crowned, hired assasins broke into the counselors' houses and murdered them and their families, only a few of them escaped.
What followed was an era of terror as the iron fist of Derthel covered the land, empoverishing the empire for his own pleasure and dictating laws at his leisure, murdering any who opposed him. After a decade of Derthel's tiranny, the surviving royal counselors organized a rebellion with the help of General Ascal.
Derthel's kingdom fell after a few days of battle, since all ascan citizens and most soldiers united against him. And as the angry mob stormed the palace, he sent his woman and son to escape on a ship he had prepared. Derthel died while trying to escape, but the rest of the royal family had boarded their escape ship.
Several warships were sent to hunt down the fugitives, and found them in a matter of hours, torching and sinking their ship, leaving the family of the corrupted emperor to drown, including the emperor's seven years old son, prince Nimbac.
When they returned, many sailors told tales that even though it was midnight, they could swear they saw water black as the nightsky moving against the stream and covering the royal boat as it sank.Such stories were discarded as illusions or tricks of the imagination.
The empire was now ruled by the council of the people, constituted by elders, wizards and sages, with the helpful advice of the clerics of Ascan.
Ten years had passed since Derthal's downfall, and the empire was nearly recuperated from his atrocities. But then, out of nowhere, a savage attack came to the eastern coast of Karnar; destroying many cities in less than a day. Many troops were sent to investigate and deal with the problem, those who returned did so in defeat and shame, telling stories of an army of beasts and traitors, headed by a terrible Lord, who was more powerful than any man alive.
Taking the eastern coast as their base, this new force mounted a massive campaign against the Ascan Empire, who was barely defending itself against the onslaught of the dark warriors and beasts, and worst of all, the dark king; he was calling himself Nimbac, the destroyer.
The forces of Nimbac ripped through the empire for three years, destroying anything and anyone who stood before them, aided by Nimbac's black magic. Several scouts and spys were sent to investigate the source of the tremendous power that Nimbac had, and only one of them returned.
He had barely escaped with his life, and not fully sane. He spoke of a fist sized black pearl, guarded by many beasts held in Nimbac's throne room; of black water moving near the coast, used to transform prisoners into beasts, and dark temples honoring Rao all over the land.
The situation was now clear, Nimbac and his warriors had been corrupted by that black water, that blood of Rao. And the empire had to stop them before it was too late. The council saw that the only opportunity they had was to destroy Nimbac and his black pearl.
Imperial forces gathered into an enormous army near the border of Nimbac's ever expanding territory, their mission was to mount a full frontal assault while a small group of the greatest warriors, priests and wizards tried to penetrate the Dark Palace and put an end to Nimbac's life. This last group was headed by General Ascal.
The desperate attack began, and while the main force marched against Nimbac's main defenses, the group of Ascal ripped their way through to the palace. Great many battles were fought by Ascal and his men, emerging victorious in all of them.
Those were days of great despair, the lives of all ascans on the hands of the great General.
After many battles, Ascal's diminished force stood before the dark palace, ripping through Nimbac's personal guard, many warriors died during the battles that followed, and when the heroes finally reached the throne room, only Ascal and his lieutenant remained.
On the main battlefield, things looked bleak for the ascan forces, being defeated in every sense by the might of the dark beasts. The moment the imperial forces were ready to retreat, all the dark beasts suddenly screamed and vanished, leaving only disoriented dark warriors who surrendered quickly.
The general of the main force, upon the surrender of the remaining warriors, mounted and took several soldiers to the capital of Nimbac. They found very little resistance on their way, defeating any warriors promptly; when they arrived at the eastern capital, the whole city was deserted and dead. And as they approached the Dark Palace, they saw a badly wounded figure trying to walk away from it, it was General Ascal, holding the head of Nimbac in his hand.
