Smithy Dwarven Kit

 by [email protected]

The Smithy is a dwarven smith who has desired to come even closer to creating perfect works of art in metal through the help of magic.

Requirements:

Must be a Dwarf.

Normal for a mage plus a 13 strength.

Weapon Proficiencies:

   bonus: hammer

Any normal a normal weapon a mage could use is possible, though there is a tendency towards metal versions of the weapons. Plus see Benefits

Nonweapon Proficiencies:

Bonus: a single type of smiting (e.g. Weaponsmith, armorer, blacksmith, etc), see Benefits

Recommended: a second slot in the smiting proficiency of choice, artistic ability

Preferred/Barred Schools of magic:

No schools of magic are barred, but Smithies tend to dislike illusions, because if you need to use an illusion then there must be a flaw some where that some one is trying to hide in an object or person.

Equipment: Start with a set of tools appropriate to smiting tools, 1d6 molds, raw metals

Special Benefits: If the bonus nwp slot is Armorer then Smithy can use any armor he makes.  If the bonus nwp slot is Weaponsmithing then Smithy can use any weapon he makes.  If the bonus slot is Blacksmithing can make minor "magic items" to store a single spell within an item which will stay in the item for one day if inactivated, though when the spell is activated it will last the normal amount of time for the wizard (no need to cast "enchant item" to create these items)the smithy can only make a total number of these items equal to his level up to a maximum equal to his total languages possible based on Int.). A Smithy channel spells through his own creations (eg. touch range spells can be passed through an item to the victim so damage from a weapon can also be added if the mage made the sword himself.)

Special Hindrances: Because of the need to channel magical energy the Smithy loses all hereditary magic resistance. If spell components are being used then the Smithy can only use metal spell components of equal to the original material component (e.g. the material component for "dancing lights" is a glow worm, that could be changed to something like a bit of scrap metal from an old rusty lamp. A Smithy can only use magical item if they are made of metal (Spellbooks and scrolls included.). Note: the Smithy’s spellbook is made of metal plates bound together by leather strips if desired (possibly the "spell book" could be the engravings in his tools, or inscribed on his sword or armor to hide it). The Smithy can choose only one type of smiting proficiency ever. (Note: If the DM is really feeling generous then the last hindrance can be ignored, but be warned!! this could easily cause unbalance the game.)

Starting money:

            Normal Mage starting amount.
