The Dragons Of The Night Wing Clan
The dragons of the Night Wing clan are very odd indeed. Strength and Size differ depending upon the color of the dragon. Their long snouts are useful for detecting different and familiar smells, making them aware of danger. And their hearing is most acute. In other words, they hear extraordinarily well for their size. The maximum height they grow to is 4 feet, where as minimum is 2 feet. Those born of Royalty, can grow to be as much as 7 feet, which is most tall.
Queens
There are 2 main ways a queen is chosen. First of all, one who is meant to be queen by nature is born with a Q marking upon her flank (color of Q may vary). These "queens" are then gathered and the strongest and wisest of the group is selected by the present queen to take her position. Another way is for the present queen to chose an egg from her first clutch, to be raised for the position of queen.
A queen chooses her mate most carefully. The only exception being when a queen mates for the first time. When a queen mates for the first time, she does so with the head male of the clan. The head male is the strongest, and largest of all the males in the clan. The second time a queen mates, it is with one of her choice. The queen chooses her mate any way she wishes. Though one must volunteer to be one of her choice.
Clutches
The queen is not the only female in the clan that lays eggs. When the "season" comes around, three other females are chosen by the queen to mate with a male of their choice. But both males and females must volunteer to take part in this. Females are the supreme dragons, and it is the females and only the females that choose mates. The Head Male is the only exceptions. He is the only male allowed to choose his mate. The first clutch of a queen is very large, containing any where between 14 to 30 eggs. A common clutch is 6 to 12 eggs. For common dragon females, a normal clutch is 2 to 4 eggs.
Growth
The dragons of the Night Wing clan grow very quickly. They do not come out of their egg shells until they are teens, when they are full grown. But their wings do not reach their full growth until they are adults.
