Other people might regard Jiro wise beyond his years and very humble indeed. Also very likeable, but the sense of keeping something from others is always there like a shadow over him. Truth to tell, all Jiro does is observe, pay attention and learn from his past experiences, as is the teachings of Kuroi Ken Ryuu.
At first, he was impulsive and would draw his sword to whatever challenge that came his way. But after discovering the true fatality of his techniwues using his weapon, he feared to draw it again. Not because he couldn't handle it but because he fears taking another innocent life as he had three times before. Three times during his travels he has drawn his sword and three times he has accidentally killed an innocent bystander. Not wishing anymore blood on his hands, he swore not to draw his sword unless situation forces him otherwise.
He ends up in Tokyo because he read somewhere in his mother's journals to find the Takani family hoping that they would find a cure for the poison inside him (incidentally, Megumi's the only one left but he doesn't know that).

The sun was shining high above as the summer days began. Jiro shifted uncomfortably in his black attire as he sat down in the forest to rest his aching legs. Reaching his travel apck which hung by his sword, he pulled out a rice dumpling which an old woman made for him during his last stop at a neaby village. He ate while staring ahead as his eyes darted through the trees before him and his mind began to work.
His mother's medical journal has not shed any clue about his cure and the death of his sister still haunts him. Of all of life's puzzles these two troubled him the most. He shed a single, silent tear thinking about that night which his sister died. Suddenly, his ears cocked up as he heard something. A scuffle, but still noticeable.
He took his sword with him and went to pere behind a clump of trees. His instinct screamed of danger but he quelled it, controlling his feelings before they control him, as his grandfather had taught him. He peered through the trees and saw two brigands waylaying two maidens with drawn daggers. Hardly a challenge against the two katanas the brigands carried. The women had fear etched on their faces as if they know their fate to come.
Jiro could only sigh as he stepped out to the puzzle before him.
"Well, look what we have here, two birds ready for our meal eh, Yuji?"
"Heh heh, you got that right."
"Now, ladies, put down those toys and we won't hurt you. In fact, we might show you a litle bit of gratitude."
"You pervert! I'll plunge this into your sick heart even if it's the last thing I do!"
The words drown upon Jiro as he got closer. The sound of his footsteps alerted the brigands as they turn around to face him.
"What is it you want, you idiot! Turn around and you saw nothing of this," sneared the one called Yuji. Jiro sighed again, as if feeling sorry for the man before him.
"I saw what I saw and I will not let this to pass," he said calmly. Already the two brigands began to circle him and forgot about the maidens, who sat down in fear and stunned.
"I don't like your words, rurouni, nor do I like the sight of steel that you have there. Perhaps it wouldn't be too much trouble to relieve you of that."
Don't these fools ever get it? They'll die. Everybody else that went by this path has. Sigh.
"I wouldn't try that if I were you. Hate will only beget more hate and that will be your ultimate defeat. A dragon knows that breathing fire on the phoenix is a futile attempt and does not do so."
"Oh, a wise mouth eh? Well, I'll just wipe it out for you then."
Both of them attacked.
Jiro sidestepped away from Yuji and tripped him by using the tip of his foot. Yuji feel down on his feet and the other brigand barely managed to dodge his falling friend. Jiro stood there waiting for their next move. Yuji got up and wiped the blood from his nose.
"You'll die for that, 'bageiro'!"
He lunged towards Jiro as again, he sidestepped away and stood beside the other brigand, who was surprised by his sudden appearance. He brought his sheathed katana on the brigand's crotch and stood still as the brigand crumpled down clutching his manhood, dropping his sword in the process.
Yuji turned around and rage was well worn on his face. Letting go a series of unintelligeble shouts he charged at Jiro once again. Jiro just stood there as Yuji got closer and closer. At the last second, Jiro brought his scabbarded sword before him and it hit Yuji's stomach with such force that the brigand gave a large oof as he dropped his sword that was over his head. A few seconds later, he dropped down and was unable to move.
Jiro went to the two maidens and offered one his hand, smiling gently at them.
"Don't be frightened, they won't harm you any longer. I shall be your bodyguard for the rest of your journey if you wish."
"My thanks, sir," one of them managed to give a whisper as she flushed at Jiro's demeanor as well as features. She gripped his hand as he pulled her up, the other done the same way. They walked on leaving the two brigands groaning and cursing the black-garbed rurouni that bested them without drawing his sword.
