The House on Haunted Hill
The remake of the of the Vincent Price classic follows the same story of a millionaire that invites five strangers to a dinner party at his haunted mansion. The five individuals will be locked inside overnight with the millionaire and his wife (Please, No Gilligan jokes here). If they survive they will each receive one million dollars.
With the new twists in the story the individuals learn that the mansion was once a psychiatric ward ran and owned by an insane doctor that is now one of the houses' many ghosts.
Starring Geoffrey Rush in the role made famous by the late-great Vincent Price (He even looks like the film legend in this movie) and Bridgette Wilson this film does not seem to be another "The Haunting". If this versions sticks true with the original, we are all in for a treat.
Sleepy Hollow
A New England school master is sent to a sleepy little Dutch Colonial town to investigate several grisly murders supposedly committed by a Revolutionary Was Calvary officer that was killed in battle when a cannonball took off his head. The Headless horseman, it is said, roams the countryside insearch of a "New" head to replace is lost noggin.
Based on the Washington Irvin classic, Sleepy Hollow stars Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane and Christopher Walken as the infamous Headless Horseman. (Film great Christofer Lee even has a cameo appearance in the movie.) Directed by Tim Burton' this film promises to contain the dark eerie feel prevalent in Burton's other big screen successes. (Batman, Betelgeuse, & Edward Scissorhands)
Hopefully this adaptation will live up to all the expectations and hype that has been building up on the news wires. If so, we will certainly enjoy this classic retelling of true horror.
The Ninth Gate
Being a rather "ODD" book finder, Mr. Corso's services are retained by the owner of the worlds largest collection of demonic texts. His favorite is a Tome, dated to the 1500s, named The Ninth Gate. This tome contains nine drawings which are supposed to hold the key to summoning the darkest of dark powers. Duplicates are known to exist and Corso is sent to Europe to find the remaining volumes. Suspecting nothing, Corso finds that the tome holds a curse of death to any and all holders.
Starring Johnny Depp (again) and James Russo, this could be another great "Devil takes control" film much in the likeness of The Exorcist. I, for one, will have to wait and see.
Freddy vs. Jason
What can I say about this film? Homage? Fiasco? We'll see. This film pits two villians, who are themselves responsible for the destruction of horror movies in the '80s, agaisnt each other for the very first time (Although Freddy did make a cameo in Jason Goes To Hell). I mean, Friday the 13th: Part 5, A new Beginning? Films like this inspired movies such as Leprochaun and Shocker. But I am more than willing to give this film a chance. After all, H20 was the best sequel to a horror film I have seen.
Nothing would please me more than to see a slugfest between these two movie maniacs. If it is done well, it could be one of the best horror movies of all times. So, I am more than willing to wait with gleeful anticipation for this film.
