Discovering a well hidden mechanism within the evil priest's chambers, Verig was able to open a door blocking off a tunnel leading into the depths of Midgard. The party gathered their things together and readied themselves for the unknown. Kuiper departed in order to return to his farm and other his duties that he had been slacking on while accompanying the group. Bravely going first, Kyrin scouted ahead of the group. A few miles later and the group was accosted by a swarm of giant rats that had been feasting on dead and decaying humanoid bodies that had been sealed up within the tunnels retaining walls. Some waterlogging had destroyed support beams and the added weight and pressure of the swelling bodies caused the walls to cave in and rats as well as bodies to spill out into the tunnel. The smell was almost unbearable and the sight of it all was almost too much for some of the members to behold. But rats are just rats and after a few minutes their bodies piled up next to their previous dinners.

Moving on, the group discovered a side tunnel leading to a natural cave, somewhat inhabited by a bear, as confirmed by the rangers in the group. At this point Aefrecht had enough of the underworld and decided to make a break for the glorious sunshine that could be seen and felt outside of the cave entrance. The rest of the group then continued on unaware their companion had departed. Continuing down the long tunnel a couple miles later, another tunnel branched off to the left. This one looking unused, sloped downward steeply. At this point, Kyrin had decided to silently scout ahead and removed his encumbering armor.  A short while later, Kyrin was pleasantly surprised to discover an orc patrol. He lured a couple of them away from the group and in two swift moves, unarmed and unlegged each in turn. Fleeing as fast as he could back to the group, he was sure the other orcs would follow, but alas they did not.

Upon reaching the party, they had discovered the ability to cause their magical weapons to shed light and allowing the humans to see without the aid of the now empty lantern. Kyrin warned the group of a possible impending attack, but after waiting a short while, none came. Continuing back to the point of enemy contact, the bodies were gone and a blood trail was found heading back the way the party came. A long search ensued and Kyrin happened upon a surprising denizen of the underworld. A strange transparent wall tried swallowing Kyrin, but Kyrin retaliated and sliced the beast into jello-shots (he he) once the beast was destroyed, the half-dissolved remains of the two dead orcs were found within it. A clever ruse if nothing else, the orcs had easily gotten away once again.

Returning to the point of initial contact, the party then followed that tunnel down further into the depths and discoverd a well laid ambush. A volcanic shaft led up from a lava flow and brached off into three tunnels. Two of which were heavily guarded by orcs. The first tunnel placed halfway from the top and bottom tunnels, was defended by 4 orc spearmen and a cauldron of boiling oil, the second tunnel, being the highest of the three, was defended by seven orc bowmen and another cauldron of oil. Kyrin's bravery and pride would soon prove deadly as Kyrin made his way up a rickety iron ladder. Oil poured down upon him, nearly knocking him from the ladder and into the boiling lava below. Narroly avoiding death, Kyrin's back had become blistered from the oil shooting down his back. If not for his armor and the magical cloak he now wore, he may have been boiled alive.

Retreating into the tunnel, Kyrin cleaned his now soaked gear and tried to regain his composure. Meanwhile, Verig called upon the aid of the gods to obscure the parties path upward and a dense fog filled the shaft for a short time. Flame arrows were then launched by the orc archers and the oil drenched ladder burst into flames. Beseeching the gods once again, Verig gained protection from heat and flame, then ascended the ladder and gained purchase of the next tunnel. A long battle ensued between the orcs and the party, each time an orc fell another member was able to climb to safety, but Shileau's head would meet the edge of an axe nearly causing his demise. Both Emari and Verig attended him as best they could, for it seemed that some of their prayers were not being heard by the gods in this god-forsaken underworld.

Once again Kyrin scouted ahead and discovered an enormous cavern inhabited by an army of orcs all ready for battle. Once again returning to the group, he warned them and approached the stairs leading back down with caution and creativity. A horde of axe-men and bowmen met encountered them from the bottom of the stair. Reaching a berserk frenzy, Beren cleaved the first rank of orcs limb from limb. Lyntern followed suit sending pieces of the orcs in every direction. Raff's preparations fell short as his body became the bowmen's target practice dummy. Seeing death flash before his eyes, Raff retreated to the safety of the tunnels and was discovered and attended to by Verig on his way to aid the fighters. Having hauled the remaining cauldron of boiling oil back with him, Kyrin swung it into the line of bowmen standing on the bottom stair and destroyed more than half of them with boiling oil sloshing everywhere in sight. Returning blow for blow, Kyrin then lit the oil as a warning to any more orcs foolish enough to assault the party.

After contemplating his actions for a bit and enjoying the stench of burning orc-flesh, Kyrin headed back to the keep to check up on his steed. Meanwhile, Aefrecht had returned to the group and found Beren and Shileau at rest. Shortly after which Shileau's reverie was disturbed by a vision of an elven maiden of light. She touched his wounds and they were instantly gone as if no wound had ever been there. He immediately jumped awake and she was gone. Raff's wounds had been atteneded to by the priests and he was making a fine recovery. Beren's exhaustion from his berserker state also had left him. All seemed well for the time being.
