LINDSAY's love & broken heart for the TITANIC

Welcome to the Titanic Chamber!

THE TITANIC

The luxury liner of the 20th century, the "unsinkable" Royal Mail Ship Titanic of the White Star Line. This British steam ship of the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company, was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, England. At the time, she was the largest ship in the world, a length of 882.5 feet and a gross tonnage of 46,328. A titan of the sea, boasted that it was the ship that even God could not sink.
The managing director, Thomas Andrews declared, "The Titanic is practically unsinkable."
Survivor Eva Hart, "The ship is a monument to mens' arrogance." She says of the lack of lifeboats, "They had got so clever they did not think they were needed and hundreds died because of it."
After the ship was tested in Belfast Lough and the Irish Sea, she was made ready for her historic maiden voyage on April 10, 1912. She was to sail the Atlantic Ocean from Southampton, England to New York. An over confident crew, not enough lifeboats, built with unsafe metals, various other faults, and traveling too fast in the freezing Atlantic.
This titan of the sea struck an iceberg early April 12, 1912.
Survivor Edith Haisman, "At first there was no panic because everybody was so stunned by what had happened. They didn't realize the Titanic was sinking. Nobody did. In the last minutes everybody was standing to get off the ship as they started to realize something was wrong."
"Most of the men jumped overboard into the sea. Those who could swim swam and those who could not swim sank. There was no hope for anyone. Everybody just panicked and they disappeared in the sea." Of the 2,222 people aboard the Titanic, 1,517 lost their lives, leaving only 705 survivors, most of which were children.
Survivor Millvena Dean, "If I stopped to think about it I'd feel very unhappy about the whole thing." She was only nine months old when her father died that fateful early morning.
Seven year old Eva Hart and her mother were put on a lifeboat, her father saying, "Hold Mummy's hand and be a good girl."
Fifteen year old Edith Haisman and her mother was put on a lifeboat, her father saying, "I'll see you in New York."

They never saw their fathers again.
