The Beatles Files: "All You Need Is Love" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com Dana Scully was waiting in a church. She was staring out a window at the bright, brilliant blue of the sky when she heard the door open and close, the rustle of fabric, and footsteps behind her. "Dana, honey, when was the last time you had something to eat?" her mother's eyes were full of concern. "Ummm... I don't know... I wasn't hungry this morning, Mom." she shrugged, feeling like she was going through the day in molasses. She concentrated on keeping her breathing and heartbeat calm. "Dear, you really should eat something. I don't want you fainting during your important day today." Margaret Scully rushed out of the room, leaving Dana to her own thoughts. Absently, her fingers found the button on the CD remote and pressed play. "Love, Love, Love. Love, Love, Love. Love, Love, Love. There's nothing you can do that can't be done. Nothing you can sing that can't be sung. Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game. It's easy." She blinked, the words of the song muffled through her ears, but went straight to her brain. She thought about all the things she had learned in her life. There was a lot of gameplaying going on, but that was par for the course with her career choice as an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. "Nothing you can make that can't be made. No one you can save that can't be saved. Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time. It's easy. All you need is love. All you need is love. All you need is love, love. Love is all you need." She had been dying of cancer... but she, along with her partner, had managed to figure out a way to force it into remission. Along the way, she'd managed to find the love of her life... even though he'd been there for her the entire time. In fact, he'd been there for her even *before* the crisis with cancer. "All you need is love. All you need is love. All you need is love, love. Love is all you need. Nothing you can know that isn't known. Nothing you can see that isn't shown. Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be. It's easy." Certainly, finding ways for them to be together wasn't easy, but it was well worth the fight. And now... "Dana, come over here and have a bite to eat. The last thing you need is to have low blood sugar." Her mother had returned. She turned around and walked over to the table where her mother had set the tray down. As she sat down, her mother busied herself gathering Dana's things together in preparation for the wedding. Studying her hands, she smiled at the diamond and emerald ring on her finger. Her mother paused and smiled at her. "All you need is love. All you need is love. All you need is love, love. Love is all you need." "All you need is love..." Dana sung softly to the song. "You know, if I didn't know better, I'd say you were nervous." Maggie Scully commented. "Well... do we have everything we need? Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?" "Your cross is old, and your garter is blue. Fox told me to give this to you." Margaret Scully handed her daughter a small velvet box. "And I'm loaning you my pearl bracelet, which was a gift from your father the day we got married. I'm suspecting it's been in the family for generations, but I can't be certain." Dana opened the box to reveal a long strand of pearls. "All you need is love (Paul: All together, now!) All you need is love. (Everybody!) All you need is love, love. Love is all you need (love is all you need)." "Mom... look..." Dana pulled the pearls out of the box, as they were just loosely set in it, and dangled them in her fingers. "Oh, god, only Mulder..." "They're beautiful." Maggie smiled. "Yee-hai! Oh yeah! She loves you, yeah yeah yeah. She loves you, yeah yeah yeah." "I'm really... oh, god, Mom, I love him so much..." she had to concentrate to keep the tears from her eyes. "I know, Dana. Come on. Let's get you ready. You're going to get married today." About fifteen minutes later, there was a knock at the door. "Agent Scully? Are you in there?" "It's Skinner." Scully smiled. "Come in, sir." The door opened and Skinner stood framed in the doorway. "It's time. Mulder's waiting." he announced. Dana stood and her mother pressed the bouquet into her daughter's hand. "Let's go."
