Mind you, when I'm posting it, I'm not quite yet in 10/13, but most of the rest of the world *is*, so... =) The Beatles Files: "Birthday" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com Fox William Mulder was having a *really* bad day. He'd been late to work, then realised he'd misplaced his keys and therefore there was no way of getting into his office... well, his and his partner's. He was feeling somewhat hopeless and trying to keep from throwing a total fit of frustration. "Fox... calm down!" came Dana Scully's voice from a distance. "I told you... I even made my PARENTS call me Mulder!" he almost cried. The situation wasn't making much sense, but what was worse was that he seemed to be stuck in a mindset which was five years old... one which he'd long since passed and grown out of... including the part about allowing no one to call him by his first name. "You say it's your birthday It's my birthday too--yeah They say it's your birthday We're gonna have a good time I'm glad it's your birthday Happy birthday to you." The lyrics of a song caught his attention. Unfortunately, then, the next feeling he had was the urge to hit his head against the office door and perhaps start crying. His day was starting off atrociously. Things were going from bad to worse since he was feeling as though he had lost his best friend... and also someone who meant more to him than that. "Scully... oh, God, Scully..." * October 13 10:45am "Scully? Where are you, Scully?" Mulder thrashed around in his sleep. "Fox... sweetheart, please wake up... you're scaring me." Dana Scully's voice again. She sounded afraid. There was a jolt and he found himself suddenly awake, and in the arms of Dana Katherine Scully. "Yes we're going to a party party Yes we're going to a party party Yes we're going to a party party." The words of a song on the radio made him realise something... Dreams are a pain in the ass sometimes. But they also serve to remind you of things you almost forgot. "I would like you to dance--Birthday Take a cha-cha-cha-chance-Birthday I would like you to dance--Birthday Dance" "S-s-scully?" he croaked, not sure of where his voice would be, and also afraid she was a dream. "Yes, Mulder. I'm right here. What's wrong? You've been screaming." "I love you..." "I love you too... and Happy Birthday." "Wha...?" "You didn't think I'd forget that it's your birthday, did you?" "Well, um... no... though I must admit I nearly did." She smiled warmly at him. "I'm glad you picked this morning to come home from your solo assignment. I missed you." "You say it's your birthday Well it's my birthday too--yeah You say it's your birthday We're gonna have a good time I'm glad it's your birthday Happy birthday to you." "I missed you too." he answered as the last strains of the song were cut off by the sleep timer on the radio ran out of time. "Now... you mentioned something about Skinner giving us the day off and wanting to spend the rest of the day on the coast? I think we can still make it if we hurry." "How long have we been napping?" "A few hours... come on, sleepyhead, let's go..." she smiled. "Okay! I get dibs on the shower! I've been travelling all night." As she watched the man she loved with her very soul, she laughed. He could be the silliest person at times, and that was part of the reason she loved him. Happy birthday, indeed. -End?-
