It is also the end of the Beatles Files timeline, though not the last story written by any means. The Beatles Files: "Get Back" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com "Dad? Dad?" Michelle Mulder's voice rose in alarm. "David! I found him!" SHe put her hand to his neck pulsepoints. No pulse. "Michelle, what?" David asked running over. "What's wrong with Dad?" "He's dead, David..." "What? Are you sure?" She checked for a pulse again, then moved her hand down to her father's chest. "There's no pulse, no heartbeat either. But look at his face!" "No surprise. That's Mom's letter." Fox William Mulder had died with a smile on his face. Baltimore, Maryland The funeral for Fox William Mulder was a somber occasion. As somber as the one for Dana Katherine Scully(Mulder) had been just a month prior. However, there was less of an air of sadness with this one as many of the attendees knew that Mulder and Scully were together again in death as they were in life. Michelle looked for "Get Back (Lennon/McCartney)" in her music database to be played at the funeral. It was a song her father always liked. Of course, she remembered being sung to by her father. "Michelle" was almost always the lullaby of choice... for obvious reasons. As the music started, people began to arrive and walk into the hall where the funeral was being held. The Mulder family and the Scully family streaming in together. David arrived with Clare Skinner. Both of them looked somber, professional, and sad. Walter Skinner and Margaret Scully arrived together. Michelle smiled at them as they went to sit down behind his daughter and her grandson. The music began. "[Sweet Loretta Fat thought she was a cleaner but she was a frying pan.] Jojo was a man who thought he was a loner But he knew it wouldn't last. Jojo left his home in Tucson, Arizona For some California grass. Get back, get back. Get back to where you once belonged Get back, get back. Get back to where you once belonged. Get back Jojo. Go home Get back, get back. Back to where you once belonged Get back, get back. Back to where you once belonged. Get back Jo. Sweet Loretta Martin thought she was a woman But she was another man All the girls around her say she's got it coming But she gets it while she can Get back, get back. Get back to where you once belonged Get back, get back. Get back to where you once belonged. Get back Loretta. Go home Get back, get back. Get back to where you once belonged Get back, get back. Get back to where you once belonged. Get back Loretta Your mother's waiting for you Wearing her high-heel shoes And her low-neck sweater Get on home Loretta Get back, get back. Get back to where you once belonged. [Thanks, Mo! ...on behalf of the group I hope we passed the audition.]" "You more than passed the audition, Daddy... I hope this is the sort of thing you wanted." Michelle mumbled to herself as the last of the invited mourners wandered in. Looking up at the front of the hall, where a woman was looking back, Michelle nodded. "And may you get back to where you once belonged. With a family." As soon as everyone was seated, a tall woman with dark, curling hair walked up to the podium on one side of the casket which was surrounded by sprays of flowers. "I would like to thank you for coming. My name is Samantha Mulder." There was a stunned silence from some in the crowd, but those had been co-workers and aquaintences who didn't know better. Of course, most of them had been wont to ridicule Mulder in life for looking for her. "My brother always did know what he was doing. He was a loving father to his children Michelle and David, a devoted husband to Dana Katherine Scully, and a wonderful brother, even though I did not know him for a very long time. I am apprieciative of the time I did get to spend with him and his family. He and the family he gathered around him treated everyone with the utmost respect. I-" It was then that her voice broke. Michelle rushed up to her aunt. "Thank you, Samantha... er, Aunt Samantha. My father believed in the truth, my mother believed in it as well. Truth be told, they both lived and died for the truth... even to the sacrifice, no matter how unintended, of their families. We will love and cherish them both for the rest of our lives. For without them, we could not be." Michelle stopped, tears threatening. 'At least I still have a copy of Dad singing.' she thought with an inward smile. "We thank you all for coming." David finished for his sister. "Our father will be laid to rest next to our mother, as per their instructions." With that, everyone stood and proceded out to the graveyard where Fox William Mulder was lain to rest next to his beloved wife. -end.-
