Spoilers: none The Beatles Files: "Good Morning, Good Morning" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com 6:45am Fox Mulder quietly approached Dana Scully's apartment door, letting himself in with the key she had given him a few months ago. She had a key to his apartment as well. He had only just arrived back in town from the assignment he had been sent on which had taken him away from Scully and Washington. He crept into the kitchen and proceded to gather the necessary material for breakfast, some of which he had brought with him in a white bakery bag. Once he was finished, he went out to the livingroom. Quietly, he set a CD in the CD player and started it, making certain he turned it up just loud enough to be heard in Scully's bedroom, setting it on one certain track. "Nothing to do to save his life call his wife in Nothing to say but what a day how's your boy been Nothing to do it's up to you I've got nothing to say but it's O.K. Good morning, good morning..." Dana awoke with a start. There was someone in her apartment! Someone who was... playing Beatles music?! 'It had *better* be you, Mulder.' she thought before she remembered and sighed. 'But Mulder's out of town...' "Breakfast is served." said a familiar voice, accompanied by footsteps into the bedroom. "Mulder! Are you really here or am I dreaming?" she turned over and pulled herself to a sitting position as she watched Mulder set the tray down in front of her. A tray that had a single long-stemmed rose sticking out from it. Mulder was nothing if not romantic... once he set his mind to it, that is. "Going to work don't want to go feeling low down Heading for home you start to roam then you're in town Everybody knows there's nothing doing Everything is closed it's like a ruin Everyone you see is half asleep. And you're on your own you're in the street Good morning, good morning..." "I'm really here." he answered, leaning down to kiss her. "Surprise. They let me go early. Though this is *not* the surprise I was telling you about." "That's ok. I'm just glad you're here." She looked down at the breakfast tray and beamed. A large strawberry croissant and coffee were her perfect ideas for breakfast, and it was perfect this morning because she was starving. Mulder had been kind enough to slice the croissant into smaller pieces. She reached over and grabbed one. "After a while you start to smile now you feel cool. Then you decide to take a walk by the old school. Nothing has changed it's still the same I've got nothing to say but it's O.K. Good morning, good morning..." "I spoke to Skinner last night before my flight left. He's given us both the day off, so how about if we spend the day on the coast?" Dana sipped her coffee. Amaretto. Grinning, she reached out a hand and cupped her palm along Mulder's cheek. "You know what I like." in the same tone she had heard him use on a case in the past. "People running round it's five o'clock. Everywhere in town is getting dark. Everyone you see is full of life. It's time for tea and meet the wife. Somebody needs to know the time, glad that I'm here. Watching the skirts you start to flirt now you're in gear. Go to a show you hope she goes. I've got nothing to say but it's O.K. Good morning, good morning..." He beamed a smiled at her, feeling the tension drain from his body. Though the rumour mill had long suggested it, their redefined relationship had not been made public knowledge. She had even earned a new nickname. 'Mrs. Spooky'. Dana had *not* been pleased. She also knew how Mulder felt about the tag 'Spooky' they had pinned him with. "Mulder... come over here and lay down for a while, please?" He complied, gladly, kicking off his shoes before he climbed into Dana's bed. Dana fitted herself against him and sighed contentedly as they each wrapped their arms around the other. "The coast can wait till later. Let's take a nap." "Okay." They dozed off together. -the end?- "The Truth is Out There.
