Takes place prior to the events in "When I'm Sixty Four" The Beatles Files: "Got To Get You Into My Life" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com The CD in the car stereo started on the next song. At the same time, the lone occupant sat up and listened. "I was alone, I took a ride, I didn't know what I would find there Another road where maybe I could see another kind of mind there" 'Yeah, that sounds like me.' Mulder thought as he sat and just looked up at the stars. For once, he was out relaxing and stargazing, not UFO hunting. Scully was away at a pathology conference, and there was almost zero caseload, so he'd decided to take a night off and rest... and think. "Ooh, then I suddenly see you, Ooh, did I tell you I need you Every single day of my life" He took the photo of Scully he had in his wallet and held onto it feverently. It was a photo she'd had taken at one of those places where they put people in shiny, sparkly clothing and loads of makeup. Scully had managed to convice him to go with her for their two for one deal a few months back and they'd both had their pictures done, and had even had a few shots of them together taken. Those last shots were safely hidden away in a safe deposit box. Only a limited few people knew of them and they were sworn to secrecy. In the photo she'd given him, she looked especially lovely, the dark green velvet of the dress setting off the colour of her eyes and the red of her hair. "You didn't run, you didn't lie You knew I wanted just to hold you And had you gone you knew in time we'd meet again For I had told you" Mulder remembered the three months of Scully's abduction, and the nightmare it had been. Somewhere deep down inside of himself during that time, he knew he loved her more than anyone and would go to the ends of the earth to find her. Only one other person was afforded that type of devotion, and without Scully... part of him didn't want to look for Samantha. "Ooh, you were meant to be near me Ooh, and I want you hear me Say we'll be together every day" Fondly, he remembered the first time they had admitted to one another that they were, indeed, in love with each other. It had been after listening to the Beatles sing "Real Love" after their Anthology series had been released, both on video and the 3 volumes of the double CDs. Mulder had gotten the boxed set of videos and they had taken the place of his *other* video collection. Of course, he also had a lot easier time sleeping... at least on weekends. "Got to get you into my life What can I do, what can I be, When I'm with you I want to stay there If I'm true I'll never leave And if I do I know the way there" "That's it!" he sat up from where he had been lying, gazing up at the stars and the full moon under the car's open sunroof. "Ooh, then I suddenly see you, Ooh, did I tell you I need you Every single day of my life" Mulder's celphone rang then. "Mulder." "Hiya! It's me. You doing okay over there?" "Scully! Miss you! Lots!" Mulder managed to get out. He was sure his smile could be seen even where she was in Maine. "Got to get you into my life Got to get you into my life" "Are you on another stakeout?" Scully's voice sounded concerned. "Nope. Just sitting and thinking and stargazing. No looking for UFOs tonight either... not without you here." "Oh, Mulder..." Scully smiled into the phone. "I was alone, I took a ride, I didn't know what I would find there Another road where maybe I could see another kind of mind there Then suddenly I see you, Did I tell you I need you..." "Scully... I love you... Hurry home, please?" "I love you too, Mulder. As for home... That's why I called. I'm in the airport at Augusta now. I'm going to need you to pick me up in about an hour. Can you do that?" "Sure. Scully, can we have dinner tomorrow night at my place?" "That sounds wonderful. Are you going to cook?" They had found out several years ago that Fox Mulder was more than a passable cook. He just needed the proper motivation, and Scully most certainly qualified. "Yup." "Then I'll be there... My flight's boarding now, Mulder. I'll see you in an hour at Dulles, okay?" "You bet!" "I love you." "I love you too. See you in an hour." As soon as the call ended, Mulder hung up the phone and started the car. He had a lot planned and needed to get started. Tomorrow was a Saturday, but he had one item he wanted to get now. -The End - (for now.)
