The Beatles Files: "Hello, Goodbye" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com Thirteen year old Michelle Samantha Mulder was in her bedroom. She had been looking for something she needed for the last half hour with little success. Then, she remembered something her ten year old brother had asked her a few days earlier. Something she had rejected, but now made her furious as she watched him start up the front walk. She hit 'play' on her walkman and left the earphones half on and half off as the Beatles played. "David, where are my rollerblades?" Michelle asked, running down stairs, not knowing whether or not to kill her brother. David Maxwell Scully, at ten, had just walked back into the house. "I'm outta here." David said, upon catching sight of her. He ran out the door again. But not before he had dropped something beside the door. The song that started in her ears she was forced to stifle a snicker at. It was fitting for the situation, but she only gave it a passing thought before the overriding desire to kill her brother took over. "You say yes, I say no. You say stop and I say go go go, oh no. You say goodbye and I say hello Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello." "Come back here you jerk! You borrowed my rollerblades without asking me first... not that I would have let you use them anyway... I remember you asked a few days ago and I said no. *Why* did you do it anyway?" Michelle was now gaining on her brother who had started running down the block. "I-ow! I don't know! Leggo me! Geez, Michelle!" David had started to protest, but Michelle had him by the collar of his tshirt first and then in the perfect position as she started rubbing her knuckles along the top of his head. "Hey! That *hurts*! Let go!" "I say high, you say low. You say why and I say I don't know, oh no. You say goodbye and I say hello HELLO GOODBYE HELLO GOODBYE hello hello HELLO GOODBYE I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello HELLO GOODBYE HELLO GOODBYE hello hello HELLO GOODBYE I don't know why you say goodbye HELLO GOODBYE I say goodbye. Why why why why why why do you say goodbye goodbye, oh no?" "You buttmunch. You took my rollerblades! *Where* are they?" Michelle continued to torture her brother but noticed her parents were driving up the driveway. "They're by the door. Now please stop torturing me!" David shouted. "Michelle, I thought I told you... torture is against the Geneva Convention." Dana Scully got out of the car, though there was a slightly amused look in her eyes. "He started it." "Did not!" David protested loudly, even as Michelle was reaching for one spot on him she *knew* was ticklish. "Did so, *buttmunch*. You know better than to touch my stuff!" Michelle answered, hitting him right where she knew it would have the most effect. "Eeek! Mom! Tell Michelle to let me go! I hate being tickled!" David protested. "Did I hear her call him what I think I heard her call him?" Fox Mulder got out of the passenger side of the car, though somewhat slowly. He was sporting a fresh bruise on his cheek... the aftereffect of a long and draining case... and a fight with Tom Colton. "You say goodbye and I say hello Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello." "I think so, Mulder." Dana smiled at her husband. "Now David, is that any way to greet your father?" Fox Mulder turned to face his son who looked a little too much like he had when he was that age. And acted it too. Fox Mulder remembered picking on Samantha... and was forced to hide a smile. His kids... well, they were apparently all too typical. He loved them anyway... or perhaps in spite of. "Dad, he took my rollerblades!" Michelle protested. "Can I help it if mine don't fit anymore?" David whined. "Yours do, and I wanted to go blading..." "Did you ask your sister first?" Mulder asked sternly. "Well... no. But she-" "David..." "I'm sorry, Michelle..." "Buttmunch." "Freak eyes." "David... Michelle..." Mulder closed his eyes for a moment, torn between laughing and rolling his eyes. "You say yes I SAY YES I say no BUT I MAY MEAN NO. You say stop I CAN STAY and I say go go go TILL IT'S TIME TO GO OH, oh no. You say goodbye and I say hello Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye, I say goodbye Hello hello I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello hello. Hela heba helloa CHA CHA, hela..." "Dana! Fox! I didn't hear you drive up! I was in the back gardening. The roses are coming in nicely this year." Maggie Scully appeared at the front door as the family walked up. She noticed the angry glare Michelle was giving her brother... as well as the bruise on Fox Mulder's face. "My god, what happened?" "It's a long story, Mom." Dana smiled, though somewhat sheepishly, at her mother. They walked into the house so as not to create an even greater scene. Michelle and David's parents wondered to themselves whether or not their *family* was an X File... but kept their theories to themselves. -End.-
