Rating: G, MSR Spoilers: none Summary: Mulder and Scully have a little fun with a Beatles favourite at a party for Richardson and Jones Note: In the series, this takes place before "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" The Beatles Files: "Help!" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com "Mulder, you *know* I can't sing to save my life... so why are you wanting to drag me into a karaoke bar?" Scully asked. "Hey, it wasn't my idea. Molly and Desmond invited us. I think this is their version of an engagement party." "Knowing them, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised..." "Come on... we're already late!" They made their way inside and were greeted warmly by their friends. "Mulder! Dana! Glad you could make it!" "Hi, Molly. Sorry we're late, but the flight back from New Orleans was delayed." Scully said. "Oooh! Having too much fun at Marti Gras?" Molly smiled. "No... just looking into a serial killer for the VCS." Mulder grumbled. It had not been a fun case. Molly Richardson's dark face was damp with perspiration. She had, apparently, had a touch too much to drink. Her dark hair was held away from her face by a bright gold clip, though there were locks of it falling back into her eyes. "I've already signed you up to sing a song... knowing how fond you are of the Beatles, it was "Help!"..." she giggled. "Oh, Molly, you didn't!" Dana said. "I did so. And while I was totally sober, so don't go blaming my being a little drunk on that." With a gesture from Molly, the announcer started up. "Next up, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully with "Help!" from the Beatles." announced the guy who was running the machine. "Well, here goes nothing..." Dana murmured. Mulder nodded. The music began. "Help, I need somebody, Help, not just anybody, Help, you know I need someone, help." They looked into each other's eyes as the song started, both of them holding mischevious gleams. They were going to have fun with this song. "When I was younger, so much younger than today, I never needed anybody's help in any way. But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured, Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors." Mulder stopped singing at the nod from Dana, and she took the chorus solo. It wasn't the first time he'd heard her sing, but she kept reinforcing his opinion that she had a terrific voice. "Help me if you can, I'm feeling down And I do appreciate you being round. Help me, get my feet back on the ground, Won't you please, please help me." When the verse was over, Dana had leaned into Mulder and had a pleading yet playful look on her face. Along with a huge grin. She batted her eyelashes at him, flirtingly. He gulped. "You go, I'm out of breath." she murmured, and he nodded. "And now my life has changed in oh so many ways, My independence seems to vanish in the haze. But every now and then I feel so insecure, I know that I just need you like I've never done before." Mulder caught Dana's eye and she winked. He grinned and continued. "Help me if you can, I'm feeling down And I do appreciate you being round. Help me, get my feet back on the ground, Won't you please, please help me." Mulder'd put his hand on his heart and looked at Scully imploringly during the last line of the chorus. She nodded and they started the next verse together. "When I was younger, so much younger than today, I never needed anybody's help in any way. But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured, Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors. Help me if you can, I'm feeling down And I do appreciate you being round. Help me, get my feet back on the ground, Won't you please, please help me, help me, help me, oh." When they sat down, they were both laughing. No one else had bothered to sing on key either, so it wasn't difficult to make the attempt at least to be on key during the song. "We'd better be careful... That wasn't exactly discrete on our parts." Scully said, though she was still smiling. "Well, if we're asked about it, we could say we were drunk. Then again, it's not as if there haven't been office rumours that we're sleeping together going around since day one." Mulder shrugged it off. "Mulder... technically, off cases, we *are* sleeping together." "Yeah, but if no one else knows about it, who cares?" "You have a point." There was perhaps a heartbeat of silence between them. "Dana..." "Fox..." "How about we sneak out of here, go over to your place and do something about that technicality..." "I thought you'd never ask." -The End- Note: Yes, this is directly before "While My guitar Gently Weeps" "The Truth is Out There.
