The Beatles Files: "Michelle" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com The sound of a baby crying broke the silence of the night. "Wha...?" A woman's voice awoke with a start and turned towards the baby monitor sitting on the nightstand. "Shhh... you rest. I'll get her." a male voice said, quietly. The bedsprings creeked as he got up from bed. "Thanks, Fox..." the woman's voice was half-muffled by the pillow as she turned over. She heard the soft padding of his feet out of the bedroom door and inot the nursery. "Shh... sweetie, Daddy's here..." Fox Mulder picked up his fussing daughter and rocked her gently in his arms. When she quieted down a little, he started to sing. "Michelle, ma belle. These are words that go together well, My Michelle." Listening through the room monitor, Dana Scully smiled. Mulder had a soft voice that translated through songs very well. He had demonstrated the ability many times during their courtship, occasionally breaking into song at some amusingly appropriate time. Dana herself felt that the current song was great for a lullaby. "Michelle, ma belle. Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble, Tres bien ensemble. I love you, I love you, I love you. That's all I want to say. Until I find a way I will say the only words I know that You'll understand." Getting out of bed, she walked over to the doorway to the nursery that was just adjacent to their bedroom to look in on her husband and their daughter. "I need you, I need you, I need you. I need to make you see, Oh, what you mean to me. Until I do I'm hoping you will Know what I mean. I love you." The little girl closed her eyes and drifted back off to sleep as Mulder watched, but he continued singing. Dana could just make out a hint of a smile on the child's face. "I want you, I want you, I want you. I think you know by now I'll get to you somehow. Until I do I'm telling you so You'll understand. I will say the only words I know that You'll understand, my Michelle." "That was sweet, Mulder..." Dana smiled, watching her husband put Michelle Samantha Mulder, their daughter, back in her crib, fast asleep. "Thanks to the wonder of modern technology, you heard that, hmm?" "Yes... well, the beginning of it, anyway. I heard the rest from here. You are wonderful with her." "And you should be in bed. You have a long day ahead of you." "Only if you come back to bed too." They smiled at one another as Mulder walked back to her. "Deal." -End, for now-
