The Beatles Files: "Michelle" (take II) by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com The telephone rang at about 9:30pm. Mulder reached over and picked it up. He rubbed at his eyes at the same time. "Mulder." "Dad... It's me... I can't sleep." a stressed-out female voice came through the line. He put down the file he had been studying. It was an old and very familiar case to him. But, his daughter needed him first and foremost. "Honey, you're going to have to since you have final exams very early in the morning. YOu're going to need as much sleep as you can get." "Where's Mom?" "Right here beside me." "Is it Michelle?" Dana Scully's voice whispered to her husband's ears. She had had a long day and was sincerely exhausted. Mulder nodded. "Daddy, would you sing to me... please?" "What would you like me to sing?" "The usual. Dad, *please*?" Fox William Mulder smiled and cleared his throat. He picked up a tape recorder and put a tape in, pressing record. Keeping a record of it would allow him to send her a copy in case she ever needed it. As Scully and their daughter sat listening, he began to sing a song which had be a favourite of Michelle Samantha Mulder's since she was a baby. "Michelle, ma belle. These are words that go together well, My Michelle. Michelle, ma belle. Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble, Tres bien ensemble." Dana slipped her arms around Mulder's waist, resting her head on his chest. Mulder smiled and continued the song. "I love you, I love you, I love you. That's all I want to say. Until I find a way I will say the only words I know that You'll understand. I need you, I need you, I need you. I need to make you see, Oh, what you mean to me. Until I do I'm hoping you will Know what I mean. I love you." Pausing momentarily, he kissed the top of Dana's head, feeling her breathing slow and become more even. "I want you, I want you, I want you. I think you know by now I'll get to you somehow. Until I do I'm telling you so You'll understand. I will say the only words I know that You'll understand, my Michelle." A rather loud yawn was heard on the other end of the phone line and as Mulder checked Scully, he saw that his lovely wife had fallen asleep. Scully's face was peaceful and smiling in sleep. "Thanks, Daddy..." came the sleepy mumble from the other end of the phone. "I think I am going to get some sleep now." "Good luck in the morning, sweetie." Mulder smiled at his daughter over the phone. "Your mother and I love you." "Love you too, Dad..." -end-
