Note: This song was suggested by Carol Gritton and I agonized over it until I came up with this scenario. Hope at least *someone* likes it. This takes place after "Help!" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" The Beatles Files: "This Boy" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com Special Agent Fox Mulder sat in the basement office he shared with his partner and best friend, chewing absently on a sunflower seed. He sighed. Paperwork was beginning to give him a headache. "Hey, Dana, how about we give Desmond and Molly their engagement presents?" Mulder asked. "It's almost time to go home, and we forgot to bring them when we went to their engagement party." Dana Scully checked her watch. It had been a long, boring day anyway, and she was feeling somewhat stifled. She nodded. As they walked out of the fifth floor elevator, a new song started on the radio and they could hear the sound of it coming from an open door of an office. "That boy took my love away, He'll regret it someday, But this boy wants you back again." However, there was also the sounds of anger eminating from the office of Special Agents Richardson and Jones, who, like Mulder and Scully, shared office space. "Desmond, I can't believe you're jealous of Paul!" Molly's voice could be heard quite clearly. "That boy isn't good for you, Tho' he may want you too, This boy wants you back again. "WHy not? he's your ex, and you're going out to dinner with him!" Desmond's voice carried out into the hallway. "Desmond, I didn't know he was even *in* Washtington... well, he isn't... he's in Fairfax, but either way, I was going to tell you. He only asked me twenty minutes ago!" "So you decided to go out with him?" "Desmond, love, he's my *ex*-boyfriend. You, on the other hand, are my fiance, and, hopefully, my future husband. Right now, though, you're behaving like a posessive child." Before anyone else could hear the fight escalate, Scully ushered Mulder into the office and then quietly closed the door behind them, though both stood with their backs to the door, hoping to go unnoticed. "Oh, and this boy would be happy, Just to love you, buy oh my-yi-yi, That boy won't be happy, Till he's seen you cry-hi-hi." "I am *not*!" "Besides, it isn't as though you- oh, hello, Dana, Mulder..." Molly turned her attention to Mulder and Scully who were standing in the doorway in shock. "Excuse me." Desmond said, sullenly, shoving past Mulder on the way out the door. "Dana, I'm going to go after him." Mulder said, and she nodded. "This boy wouldn't mind the pain, Would always feel the same, If this boy gets you back again. This boy. This boy." Mulder handed Scully the brightly wrapped present before turning to follow Desmond Jones. Molly Richardson sighed, and gestured for Scully to sit down. "Desmond, wait!" Mulder called after his friend. Desmond Jones slowed to a walk, though by this time they were at the elevators. "What do you want, Mulder?" he asked, sullen. "Desmond, what's going on? If you and Molly had shouted any louder, I think the building would have started shaking." "I guess you heard, then." Molly said, walking over to turn off the radio. "Considering you left the door open, yes. Mulder and I heard the fight when we were getting off the elevator. I decided that it would be better to keep the door closed, since no one is supposed to know of your relationship, you know." Dana said. Molly sighed. "At the rate things are going, I'm not sure Desmond and I have a relationship left, aside from the professional. I can't believe he'd be so jealous over Paul, when the reason he left me to begin with was because he realised he wasn't interested in me... or anyone else of our gender, Dana..." Tears had started tracking down her face. "I understand, Molly... but does Desmond?" "I haven't told him yet... I was going to, but he flew off into this jealous rage on me. I've never seen him like this before." "Maybe she has a good reason to be going to dinner with her ex?" "Like what?! That she's leaving me, or that she never loved me, maybe?" There was a note of desparation in Desmond's voice. "Desmond, she never talks about anyone else in her personal life other than you... Not only that, you're starting to sound like me. Well, me before I realised what Dana means to me. Molly loves you. I know she does. I can see it in her eyes. I can see it in yours too. Paul is a good friend, that's all. I know that from what I know of Molly." Desmond's head drooped. "I've been such a jerk. Molly's probably left by now. I have to find her." "I have to go meet Paul for dinner. I just wish Desmond and Mulder were back already so we could clear the air." "Maybe you should leave Desmond a note as to where you're going." "Good idea." Desmond managed to find the restaurant where Molly and Paul were having dinner. It was Molly's favourite local pizza place, one she went with him all the time. He found them easily enough. "Molly... May I talk with you... alone?" he asked, bringing out a bouquet of mixed wildflowers as a peaceoffering. Molly nodded. "Paul, I'll be right back." she said, getting up from her chair. "You must be Desmond." Paul Andrews said, standing up when Molly and Desmond reappeared after a few minutes, both looking a touch dishevled. "Molly has told me so much about you. I'd asked her out to ask her advice about my own life. You have nothing to worry about, Mr. Jones-" "Please, call me Desmond. Molly's explained it all. I would like to apologize for my behaviour... to both of you. I've been behaving rudely and very jealous." Paul smiled. "That's alright, Desmond. Molly told me, and I told her that I was jealous as well of some of her male friends when she and I had been dating. Congradulations on your engagement. You are a lucky man." Desmond smiled. "Oh, I know. I know." "Desmond, please join us." They sat down again, and dinner continued. -The end.- "The Truth is Out There.
