The Beatles Files:  "Yesterday"

     Fox Mulder and Dana Scully sat in the waiting area outside Assistant 
Director Walter Skinner's office.  As they sat there, the song currently 
playing on the radio caught their attention.
   
  "Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
   Now it looks as though they're here to stay
   Oh, I believe in yesterday."

     Mulder sighed.  They had just returned from a case and things had
gone badly.  From all reports, one of the agents they had been working
with had reported something abnormal in the agents' relationship, namely
that they HAD one, and now Skinner had probably called them up to read
them the riot act. 
   
  "Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be,
   There's a shadow hanging over me.
   Oh, yesterday came suddenly."
  
     "Well, Mulder, it looks like we're in for it now... the X-Files will
probably be closed... and right when we're getting some real answers..." 
Scully's voice trailed off as she looked up into his eyes.  The Engagement
Ring she never took off except to bathe still glimmered from the finger
Mulder had set it on almost a month ago. 
     She so much wanted to kiss him, and knew he wanted to kiss her as 
well, but both knew this was neither the time nor the place for such a 
public display of affection, especially as they were going to be called 
on the carpet by Skinner, and she knew they were both going to lie to him 
if necessary.
     "True... but somehow it doesn't feel as bad as it used to, what with 
you and I spending more time together away from the office and all."  
Mulder's smile was small, but signifigant.

  "Why she had to go I don't know she wouldn't say.
   I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday.
   
   Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play.
   Now I need a place to hide away.
   Oh, I believe in yesterday.
   
   Mm mm mm mm mm."
   
    "Agents Mulder and Scully, the Assistant Director will see you 
now." his assistant said.
     They walked in, and Skinner gestured for them to be seated.
     "I have some good news and some bad news..." Skinner said, looking 
at Mulder and Scully.
