Summary: Mulder and Scully go out to the movies on a weekend afternoon. Note: this is the second in the proposed "Out To The Movies" trilogy. The first story was "From Zero to Hero". These can be archived separately. This story does not depend on the last one. =) Out To The Movies II: "Look Directly into the Light" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com One week after seeing "Hercules": There was a knock on the door. Scully came out from the kitchen and headed for the door. "Who is it?" "It's me, Scully." "Come in, Mulder." Dana smiled, opening the door. Upon Mulder's entrance, however, Scully couldn't help but laugh. Mulder was wearing a black turtleneck, grey-black jeans, and black shoes with his jacket from last week over that. "Are you trying to make a statement at the movies, Mulder?" "Huh?" "We're going to see "Men In Black" aren't we?" "Yeah, so...oh!" Mulder grinned, seemingly noticing his attire for the first time. Then he looked at his friend and partner. "You shouldn't talk, Scully... Like your hairband, though." Scully looked down and noticed that she was wearing a black pullover sweater, white t-shirt, and black pleated skirt. In her hair was a forest green hairband. She couldn't help but grin back at Mulder. "We're quite a pair, aren't we..." she said. "Yup, and if we don't hurry, we're going to miss the movie. I got the tickets this morning. I'd heard it sold out early, so I went and got them this morning." They walked out the door. "Good idea. Let's go." Scully turned and made sure she locked the door behind her. "Wanna split the cost of popcorn again, Scully?" They were back at the same theatre they'd been to last weekend with the same extreme prices for concessions. "Sure, Mulder." "We've been keeping several of them under constant supervision." Agent K spoke on-screen. The camera turned to the screen to reveal Newt Gingrich, Steven Spielberg, and several other important and recognisable people. "Now *that's* an injoke." Scully grinned, indicating Steven Spielberg, the movie's Executive Producer, and Mulder nodded. "And I would have figured Gingrich was from another planet." Mulder grinned. "His policies certainly are..." "I always suspected Anthony Robbins had too much energy for a *normal* human being." Scully murmured. "Why be normal?" Both laughed. "That thing caused the New York blackout of '78. It was a practical joke from an Urgalian. He thought it was funny as hell." Mulder, still laughing in the aftermath of the crazy richocheting sphere, held his sides, which ached from the laughter. "Guess I know which planet *you're* from, Mulder." He turned to look at Scully and stuck his tongue out at her. "You want me to put my hands on my head... you mean like *this*?" the alien-in-human-clothing said as he ripped off his disguise to reveal himself to be a huge cockroach. "Eeew... when they said a 'bug', I didn't know they meant *literally*!" Mulder grimaced. "This reminds me... Do you think Bambi would like this movie?" "Not funny, Scully... I still hate bugs. Now moreso than before." "See you around." Agent K said. Agent J took the neuraliser from K and sighed. "No, you won't." There was a bright flash, and Mulder sighed. Sometimes he wished he could give up his pursuit, but his promise to himself to find Samantha was part of what drove him. He felt Scully put her hand on his and squeeze lightly. "Maybe we should call the authorities." "Yeah. I'll notify Dennis Rodman." "He's from that planet?" "Yeah." "Not much of a disguise." As the camera began to pan up and back, Mulder and Scully both laughed. "Yup... that figures. I always thought Dennis Rodman was from another planet." Mulder murmured. "I've seen him at a few Knicks games... that guy is weird. I think I've got a file at the office on him." "Mulder, he's *not* an X-File... He just needs his head examined." They emerged from the movie complex and walked to the car laughing. "Mulder, that was a lot of fun." "Yeah... amazing how much fun we can have when we finally have weekends off, isn't it?" "You didn't talk to Skinner about this, did you?" "Nope. It's just been a slow few weeks, I think." "C'Mon... let's go eat. I'm starved." "Barbequed ribs sound good?" "Great! Let's go, let's go!" -The End- Next up: Out to The Movies III "The Truth is Out There.
