A note from the Doctor

It has taken a lot of time and effort to open this clinic, but I feel that it is needed. I chose to specialize in the study of dreams and nightmares, and I have had more 'luck' in my discoveries than I ever hoped for. These pages, though labeled essays, are actually in journal form.I urge all visitors to peruse them as they wish,so that they may learn from what has transgressed in my clinic.

The First Nightmare
The majority of my new patients suffer from a sleep disorder or psychosesbringing about the forms of recurring nightmares.Originally,I had believed these nightmares to be a symptom of their madness, but with the admittance of my most curious patient-Allison Vaughn(Cell block 1,#1 of the Wards)-I learned that they were the cause...

She admitted herself, her eyes dark with the look of one who had not slept in days, begging me for help.I took her to her room, and began testing immediately. She was suffering from sleep deprivation, caused by her fear of a recurring nightmare. Due to my doctor's code,I will not reveal the nature of her dreams, suffice to say that they made my undead body shiver. So I kept her in the clinic, running tests, and coming up with no conclusions.

Then, one night,a visiting Tremere friend of mine offered his assistance.Using a thaumaturgical path known as the Gift of Morpheus, he drew us into her dreams,so that I may observe the girl's mind directly. We watched the dream unfold as she had described, but from our vantage point,we could see something that she could not.

Standing at the edge of our vision, watching the dream as we did,was a tall, dark figure. He was beautiful, yet terrifying, and I could sense his power even at that distance. He was garbed in black, and his eyes burned of an unholy blue.He watched intently, his fingers clenching and unclenching.

Upon more inspection,I saw that a fine green vapour emanated from Allison's dream form, and that it grew in density as she grew more terrified. The man inhaled this vapour,as though he were feeding off of it.I had no idea who this horrid creature was,but my terrified mind gave him a name.Tal'Shalafi...The Dream Master.

The next morning,I interviewed Allison, and was shocked to learn that she knew the man I had seen. She named him Stephanus Raile, and spoke of how they'd once been lovers. But she'd batrayed him,she said, and had fled to escape his wrath.
Though I am still unable to ascertain how this creature has such power over the dreams of others, there can be no doubt as to his effectiveness.Despite all my efforts to to treat her,Allison slowly crumbled under his power, and is reduced to the pitiful creature you will find in the wards.

Over the next few years, the Dream master extended his reach beyond Allison, and i could see evidence of his work in many of my patients and staff. Those doctors and nurses who were not committed either killed themselves,or died from his nocturnal torment.Yes,you have read correctly. He does have the power to kill you in your sleep.I was overworked, overtired, and no closer to the answers I sought.

And then,he came for me.
