The story of Juuni Kokki's Shinki [the New Legend] begins when Tentei [the supreme diety] became angry with the way that the world was being run. Tentei destroyed everything in the world and re-created it as 13 countries, 5 gods, 12 humans and turned everything else into raika [seeds]. To each of the 12 humans, Tentei bestowed a branch with three fruits and a snake coiled around it. The snake lifted up the sky and the three fruits turned into the throne, the land and the Kingdom. The twelve countries that make up the perimeter island and out-lying islands are the result of the seeds. The thirteenth is the central island, Houki. Houki is the location of four mountains; Hou, Go [where the gods live], and . Mt. Hou is where the sennin [immortal hermits] and kirin [before they mature enough to choose an emperor] live.
