Facts About The New Facilities

New Facilities

The building's architect, Luis Badillo, solved the problem of space. The new concrete building, in a dramatic sequence of curves, hugs a hill at the base of the towers. Large glass window panels line one side of the building, providing spectacular views of the nearby karst hills, the island's central mountain range in the distance, and the dish and platform in the foreground. A patio area facing the dish offers additional views in an outdoor setting. Inside, the building houses some 3,500 square feet of exhibits, a 100-person multi-purpose theater, meeting rooms, work space, and a science-related gift shop selling such items as hanging mobiles and books about the planets and stars.
