Part 10

Remy LeBeau, gambit, looked at the computer screen, eyes narrowing. Sinister, his father, was on the screen, smiling. "Good afternoon X-Men.
If any of you came with my son this far I congragulate you. You have more brains than I believed you did. Now for the business at hand.
Rogue and the others are fine and will continue to be as long as you play the game well. Gambit, you will find a small key in one of your
mothers desk drawers. What it opens will have the instructions for you. I would recommend that you do not fail me." The screen went
blank.
Gambit turned and put the computer back in his bag and turned. He was met by three varying astonished stares. "Son?" Storm gasped. "You're
Sinister's son?"
"Oui." Gambit looked away from them.
"Why didn't you tell us."
"I didn't know 'till recently. Gambit looked back at Storm and Wolverine. "Rogue found out an' told me a couple of weeks ago. I didn't know
how t'tell ya. I didn't know if I even could. T'ought it just give Scott another reason t'hate me. De prof knows though."
Storm looked at Gambit. The fact that he hadn't told her hurt very much but he was her friend and needed her more than ever. She placed a
reasuring hand on his shoulder. "You are still my friend Remy. Nothing can change that."
"T'anks Stormy."
"This is quite touching. Gambit and Storm looked at Mystique who was now at the front door, glaring at them. "But it does not help my daughter.
Now find the key!"
Gambit looked at Storm and Wolverine and sighed. He walked towards the steps and opened the door. Gambit walked in and gazed at the
pictures hanging on the wall and blinked the tears from his eyes. He looked closely at the woman holding the small boy . She was smiling, her
brown eyes wide with delight. Mother . . . where are you? What happened to you? Gambit's eyes closed as memories he thought were lost
forever came rushing back . . .
The three year old clung to his mother's hand as she helped him down the stairs of the bus. He rubbed his eyes and looked up at her. He
was so tired. "Where we going mommy?"
His mother glanced down at him and gathered him into her arms. "We're going to see an old friend of Mommys." His mother glanced
across the street and crossed the road.
"Where's daddy?"
"I don't know sweetheart. But I'm not going to let him hurt you anymore."
"No more nweedles?"
"No more needles."
"Will I ever see Teddy 'gain?"
"No. I'll get you a new teddy bear. Okay?"
The boy nodded. His mother continued down the street. The boy laid his head on her shoulder and listened to the jazz music playing in
the distance.
"TARA! Give me my son!"
The boy looked up. "Mommy, daddy!"
His mother turned around to see her husband running towards them. "Oh god no!" she began to run. She looked over her shoulder and
saw that her husband was catching up. She ran down the alley and put him down on the ground by the trashcans. "Remy, I love you."
She kissed his forehead and wiped the tears from her eyes.
"Mommy?"
"Rememer I love you." Remy watched his mother run from the alley.
Gambit's eyes snapped open and he stared at his mother's face, blinking back tears. He took you from me. I won't let him take Rogue too. He
looked around the room wildly for a moment and then saw the stairs. He ran up them.
"Remy!" Storm yelled as she ran after him, Mystique and Wolverine behind her.
Gambit ignored her as he opened the first door on the right. As the door opened he was immmediately hit by a fragrance he hadn't smelled in
years-violets. Remy closed his eyes savoring the scent and then opened them again. He stepped into the room glancing about it until he saw the
mahogony desk in the corner by the windows. He quickly walked over to it glancing at the pictures of his father, mother and him. Gambit opened
the desk drawer and quickly rumaged through it until he found a small gold key underneath a pile of old letters.
"I found it!" He yelled as he turned around. The others were in the doorway watching him.
"Well hurry up, open whatever it opens," Mystique yelled angrily.
"Dere's one problem wit dat."
"Oh do tell."
"I don't remember what it opens."
Jean Grey was usually not an irrational woman. Usually she was very level headed and calm. Today, however, was an unusual day. She sighed as
she scooped the broken vase into the garbage bag. You didn't have to give him an ultimatum Scott. She told her husband through their
psychic link.
He deserved it Jean. He's been hiding secrets from us. Why didn't he just tell us about Sinister? came Scott's reply from the War Room.
He believed he was fre from Sinister--
Why didn't he tell us he was Sinister's son!?!
He told the Professor--
You knew that Sinister was his father and didn't tell me!
The Professor thought you'd act irationally, he was right. Besides just because he's his son doesn't mean he will be like his father.
He already is. Remember what he already did for Sinister--
He didn't know--
That makes it okay? Jean listen to yourself.
He's an X-Man Scott--
He was one. He gave that up when he left the mansion last night.
He did it to save Rogue, Beast, and the Professor. Wouldn't you do the same for me? There was a brief silence. Scott you are sleeping on
the couch!
Rogue slumped down by the toilet as it flushed. Her stomach was still queasy. She pushed the hair from her eyes and stood up. She walked out
to the room and sat on the end of the bed. Ah have ta get outta here . . . but how? . . . come on Rogue, think, use what Momma taught ya .
. . She glanced around the room.
The room was a pristine white with a set of chairs and a table at one end and at the other, the bed. She brushed her hair back and sighed. Her
hand caught something. She gently took it out. It was one of her hairpins. She smiled and walked over to the doors. A few minutes later the door
slid open. Rogue glanced down the hallway. No one. She ran down the corridor and noticed a sparkle on her right hand. It was a gold bracelet
instead of the green one she had been wearing. Was this why her powers weren't working? Think about it later. No tellin' what he wants to
do to me or the baby.
She gently rubbed her stomach and ran faster. Rogue stopped dead in her tracks. She heard something. She looked over and saw an open
doorway. She looked in it. It was a pristine white like her room was. Except there was no bed, just a huge bubble like object in the middle of the
room. Tubes came out of it and connected to the ceiling.
Her green eyes went wide as she walked over to it. In the bubble was a bed and a small boy was on it crying. She placed her hands on the
bubble. The boy looked up at her. Rogue felt around at the base of the bubble. She pushed in a button and the transparent lid slid away. She
picked the boy up and ran out of the room. She couldn't just leave him.
She rounded a corner and hit something. She held the whimpering boy tightly to her as she hit the ground. She glanced up and saw Sinister
looking down at her. "Exactly where do you think you're going?"
"Mystique stop it!" Ororo Monroe screamed as she watched her friend, Remy LeBeau, smash into the bed. "This isn't any help!"
Mystique ignored Storm's cries and threw the desk's chair at Gambit. Gambit rolled off the bed and out of its pathway. "What do you mean you
don't remember!" Mystique dove after him, feeling a sharp pain in her stomach. She rolled backwards and looked hatefully towards Wolverine.
"Cut it out Raven. Calm down or you're gonna make me use these." He unsheathed his claws. " Killin' the Cajun isn't gonna bing Rogue back."
"No but it'd make me fell better."
She picked herself off the floor as Storm helped Gambit up. "T'anks Stormy."
Storm looked at him sternly and Remy gave her a weak smile. Gambit glanced around the room, his gaze focusing on the ruins of what used to be
his parents bed. Out of the corner of his eyes he saw a golden sparkle. He turned and saw a small golden music box on the shelf over the dresser.
"What's that?" three-year-old Remy watched his mother take the music box dow from the shelf.
She turned to him smiling. "It's a surprise." She took a small gold key from her pocket and unlocked the box. 'Unchained Melody'
gently began to play.
Mystique watched Gambit walk towards the wall and her eyes narrowed. "What are you doing LeBeau?"
Gambit ignored her as he took the box from the shelf. He unlocked and then opened it. Inside was a disk and a piece of paper. He unfolded the
paper. It was Sinister's handwriting.
On the disk you will find a list names and institutions. A set of instructions for what you are to do will be at . . . .
Unistad Bus Station
New Orleans, La
Sinister placed Liam back into the modified cylinder. The transparent lid closed again. Sinister turned around, eyes blazing as he stared at Rogue.
"Come." He started towards the door. Rogue didn't follow. "I would not try my patience Rogue."
She followed him down the hallway. "How far did you trully think you would get child?" He turned towards her, grabbing her arm. He glanced at
the bracelet. "With this I can track you wherever you go and block your powers. You were about to endanger not only yourself but my unborn
grandchild and one of my most important specimens. I've killed people for less--"
"He's just a child," Rogue struggled to break his grip.
"I would advice not doing anything foolish like that again. I will not loose perfect . . . specimens because of your foolishness."
"You won't ever touch this child." He green eyes were blazing with a fury to match his own.
Sinister pushed a button and two doors slid opened. He sent Rogue into it. "I wasn't just talking abut your child. His mother is also very valuable.
