Curiosity Killed the Cat
By Jessica D'Ambrosio
Every morning and
every afternoon, I walk past
the door. And every morning and ever afternoon,
I catch a glimpse of the keyhole.
Don't look, Mom always shakes her finger at me.
How could I walk past without looking,
When Mom says so many times, Don't look?
Don't look, I mimic Mom, my imaginary finger wagging.
Compliance dictates don't; curiosity dictates look.
Mom says both; Don't look.
So, which do I obey? The compliance or the curiosity?
I walk past the door and I catch a glimpse of the keyhole.
Tomorrow I will look,
And tomorrow it begins again...
