| Porn: good, bad or just dull? | |

In polite company most of us are too coy to admit that we've ever been near such a thing as images of naked people doing sexual things, but in reality most of us with a penis have at one point or another guiltily indulged; in fact it's probably one of the hidden reasons why the net is so popular. {Before we go any further I'd like to serve notice that i'm not going to put any explicit images on this page, it's out there if you really need it, but this site is to titilate the mind, not the cock.} Basically the male sex drive tends to be a bit excessive, or at least more excessive than the female one, so for us blokes who fancy women there is a problem of demand exceeding supply. Thus we have to resort to wanking, which is generally best done with some fuck fuel, ie porn. Is there something intrinsically wrong with this? Imagining having sex for personal pleasure? I don't think so. Peter Tatchell, the gay activist, is of the opinion that porn is a great thing, in that it enables the disabled etc to get some sexual pleasure. Which is a fair point, but hang on a minute, is it really a great thing to spend a lot of time looking at pictures of submissive women whose only function is to be sexually available? Certainly the Feminist argument has always been that porn contains nasty little cartoon stereotypes of sluts and whores, which only reinforce the prejudiced women-hating views of a lot of men. Sure, Playboy does not provide a properly balanced picture of human female behaviour, but then again most men have more experience of female behaviour than just `reading` pornography. It's a bit like the violent video argument: yes some peole are deranged or stupid enough to be influenced by it, but surely the majority are not going to become rapists because of Razzle? I could be wrong, I don't know. Anyway, the thing that annoys me about porn is it's all so clichéd: no one with an imagination seems ever to be involved in producing it. Or perhaps this just reflects the lack of sophistication of those whom it is being sold to. Porn sells a simple, easy world of open-access women, where it isn't necessary to cook women dinner, listen to their problems or stay awake afterwards. Effectively this shows the male mass market fantasy of female behaviour: wouldn't it just be a lot nicer if women were as sluttish as we are? Unfortuneately in the real world, although women are a lot more promiscuous than they used to be, they're generally still more choosy than blokes. I don't like to make crass generalisations, but most men would shag a hole in the wall if they were feeling sufficiently horny. In fact, cases like that do get reported, and how many others just go unnoticed? Anyway, I digress, but basically I don't think you can say that porn is the problem full stop, but rather that it is the most visible manifestationt of a viewpoint, or fantasy, of female sexuality which exists in wider male society. But perhaps the fact that it is just a fantasy shows that it isn't important, I mean perhaps it has no more relevance or relation to reality than science fiction: just another imaginary world which we all realise is just that. I think it can be pretty distasteful, especially extremely perverted porn, but as long as all those making it are consenting adults it is not necessarily morally wrong. -Mr Flinch |
