Upon returning to town we found the entire place was deserted. There wasn't a soul in sight. We couldn't believe it. We had found the wharves easily enough, but the town was hardly recognizable. There were what looked like new statues everywhere. That's when Spock pointed out the error of our ways. There weren't statues. They were the former population of Pompeii. They had been caught unaware by the anger of Pluto and were now statues. We decided to take one of the "statues" with us, as our attempt to preserve the history, and memory, or Pompeii. Spock suggested that we use a proctive substance to keep the body from disentigrating (and smelling wretched.)
