Namaste
Unable to find the argument in text form ...
All I can say personally is I would once-upon-a-time agreed wholeheartedly with the atheists. So things can change!
I am reminded of this advice -
Are you among the few who can listen to beliefs and ideas of others which are in conflict with your own, not to find fault with these, but to examine them for any possible value to yourself? If so, you are ready for Cosmic Awareness.
Found it on this site -

Cheers
Thought I'd post this even though it has almost nothing 2 do with the topic ...

Enjoy!
Could add these -
Unanswered questions - for new chopra atheist? - simpleton :)
Plus peace of mind? PLUS laugh in face!
PLUS I am the only one posting here at the moment :) How 2 irritate an atheist? Turns up a few!
beyondananda - http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=Swami+Beyondananda%27s+Guidelines+for+Enlightenment+fundamentalist+fun+always&meta=
Also new age blues plus soft in the head or fawning
To flesh out a few of those ...
Try 2 avoid preaching or smugness ... I do wrestle with that ...
Could add Tasha and how she knows nothing would have convinced her when she was an atheist!
Oh yes ... unanswered questions ... the VERY fact that there is such a wide range of views tells us that there is no truly convincing 'argument' one way or the other ...
Yes - I used 2 say if God can reveal himself to a few and remove all doubt in their minds, why not just reveal yourself 2 everyone! It's monstrously unfair - and I used 2 say it is totally obscene 4 anyone 2 worship such a god ...
Laugh in face - include a link 2 notebook??
http://www.fortunecity.com/roswell/callanish/39/n-book.htm
Note ... Mind you ... I would also have been violently (literally) agains the atheists if they were creepy enuf 2 inflict normality on their children!
Fawning - oh yes ... the full version is that if god REALLY wants 2 punish me he should send me 2 Heaven because the mere thought of spending eternity with all of god's fawning sycophants is much more than I could stomach!
Yes ... it's ludicrous! Your average human being doesn't know what 2 do with 70 years on this planet. What on earth are they going 2 do with eternity ...
I used to say that anyone who needs a crutch like religion to get through life should be put 2 death because just KNOWING that such pathetic people exist is depressing ...
Could include a link to cases3 about robots ... and how the whole POINT of the game is that I can never tell one way or the other ...
http://www.fortunecity.com/roswell/callanish/39/cases3.htm
What was the other ...
http://www.fortunecity.com/roswell/callanish/39/book44.htm
No ... there was a page with a warning if you are easily upset don't read ... then all the metamorphic stuff as I 'somehow' ended up at the OPPOSITE end of the spectrum
Ah ... solved it - must be only at freewebs site with SAME file name ...
http://www.freewebs.com/grjallen/book44.htm
Oh yes ... almost forgot - what kind of a perverse god requires a brutal sacrifice before he is willing 2 forgive ...
Yes ... when I was in the grip of atheism I was VERY clever & VERY cynical but had no peace-of-mind. That has sure changed ... it is better than I would have dared dream! And yet I CANNOT explain it - I thought I would be THE very last person on this planet get into meditation & other spiritual practices ... so noone is MORE amazed than I am :)
Simpleton -

Curious timing! Or is it ... just when I put these thoughts 2 paper I am finishing "Rational Mysticism". It asks some tough questions that I thought were forever unanswerable - I highly recommend it -
www.johnhorgan.org
... questions like why on earth would a "perfect" being bother creating ANYTHING at all?
Yes ... beliefs ... what is a belief exactly ... and how do we 'arrive' at our current collection ... hmmm
I would have 2 say I don't agree with EITHER side in the often heated debate! I do spiritual practices but don't see God as vengeful 2 unbelievers ... see that "Are you Ready?" link previously on this page ...
Found this set of proofs -
http://godisimaginary.com/i1.htm
Yes, I would once have agreed ... does raise interesting questions
Personally, I pray for things like more compassion, forgiveness & gratitude & it does work :)
... not 2 mention wisdom & peace-of-mind & contentment ...
Oh yes - how COULD I forget 2 mention inner disarmament which may well be THE greatest piece of advice I have ever read :)
Though I very much doubt I would have said so when I was an angry, cynical atheist :)

From my notebook -
If all religious writings are just figments of overactive imaginations & all the people whose lives have been transformed by practices such as meditation, compassion & forgiveness ... that's probly MORE amazing than if there actually is a God!
Poems - literature - music - movies -
Had a dream last night - very vivid as always ... and I said something like "If there were no more suffering, the word compassion would cease 2 have any meaning" ... similarly if there were no more adversity then perseverance would not mean anything and finally if no more human mistakes there'd be no need 4 a word like forgiveness ...
May as well share an email I JUST received ... about yet another book -
Dear Geoff,
How would you feel if God spoke directly to you?
As you think about your answer I am absolutely inspired to share some exciting news with you.
My good friend, Russell Hill, author of "The Journey Begins" has published his latest book The God Manifesto, living proof God still speaks to us.
Picture this scenario in your mind just for a moment. Neal Donald Walsh meets Dr. Seuss. Can you imagine the possibility?
The result of such a momentous meeting would be a book filled with profound spiritual truths. A book which reveals the truth of your Divine Nature in plain, simple, everyday and easy to understand words.
Imagine if such a book existed...
"The God Manifesto" will answer your deep seated questions in plain and simple to understand terms. Each page will leave you yearning for more as you are awakened to the truth of Who You Are. The message of The God Manifesto is a blueprint for happiness and much more. It is a message of hope and encouragement Russell was guided to share with the world.
The message of "The God Manifesto" encourages us not to look to the events of this world as a catalyst for our happiness, but to turn our attention inward and celebrate our divine perfection.
I encourage you to read The God Manifesto today and start sharing the miraculous healing power of God's unconditional Love. Can you imagine a world where everyone freely shares Love? It all starts with a willingness to hear the truth. Remember we are all God's Children.
Many Blessings,
DavidPaul Doyle

How's THIS 4 a book review -
All 6 billion plus inhabitants of Earth should be in possession of this book. Alper's tome should be placed in the sacred writings section of libraries, bookstores, and dwellings throughout the world.

Okay ... one final (?) piece of advice I still find very useful as I occasionally lapse ... For peace of mind, pay no attention 2 the faults of others. Even if that 'fault' is merely the fact that they don't happen 2 agree with you on the BIG questions ...
Yes, why are we devoting so much attention on others rather than examining ourselves ...

Dear Geoff,
Our beliefs are unique to ourselves but beneath all belief systems is an aspiration to transcend reality and find meaning in life.
It really doesnt matter how firm you are in your own belief system Geoff you can still listen to other people talk about their life experiences and get something that challenges and grows your own ingrained beliefs. It is through this interaction of life experiences that we are allowed to see beyond our own limited experience of life.
We live in a universe based in duality and relativity so that we can experience life through every relationship we have, both personal and non-personal. We learn about our own belief system by listening to a flower as well as listening to our neighbor.
Deep listening is the key. Listening to others and having them listen to you is a way to grow your own faith and understanding about what you truly believe. Deep listening to all of life is a skill that serves you well.
Live in love,
Richard D. Blackstone
