Othello & other non-violent strategy games

Ah yes ... Othello - nothing 2 do with a play by Shakespeare - I have enjoyed many games - it is simple 2 learn but tough 2 master ...

Note: A couple of absolutely classic contests are down the bottom of this page :)

Also note ... the best I have found so far is reversi by Kremnev Maxim

I suppose first things first and let's find out how to play -

Othello - Here's a classic - http://www.itsyourturn.com/pp?gm&s=1&g=15300049158150&m=49 a to h along bottom and 8 is TOP row! e3 f5 f6 f7 g5 d3 c6 d6 f8 b6 c2 d2 c4 f3 c7 c8 f4 e6 c5 g4 h4 h5 h6 g6 e7 g3 h3 e8 d8 d7 d1 b5 b8 b3 a6 a5 b4 a7 a4 a3 h2 c3 h7 c1 b1 e2 e1 f2 Then I chose b2 - best move ever?? think about it :) *********************************************************************************** Months later a real classic that is still in the balance ... e3 f3 f4 d3 c5 e6 f5 f6 g5 h4 d7 d6 h5 h6 f2 g4 c6 c3 c4 b4 f7 g6 c7 d8 e8 b6 c8 e7 d2 g3 a4 g8 b5 a3 b3 a5 a6 a7 c2 e1 d1 c1 e2 f1 g2 a2 f8 I tossed up doing the diag and then saw I could make BOTH diags safe ... :) Then! saw b8 was also safe ?? Hmmm ...

Then! Another squeaky win - thought I would lose? e3 f3 f4 d3 c5 e6 f5 f6 g5 h4 d7 d6 h5 h6 f2 g4 c6 c3 c4 b4 f7 g6 c7 d8 e8 b6 c8 e7 d2 g3 a4 g8 b5 a3 b3 a5 a6 a7 c2 e1 d1 c1 e2 f1 g2 a2 f8 b8 b2 g1 h1 a1 b1 g7 h2 h3 h7 I thought we COULD end up with 2 vacant corners and me losin ... I was white

Note! You can click on the moves! Just discovered it!

Another close call? - decided 2 go to b7 instead of g8 to grab the diagonal from him ?? Hmmm ...

Same opponent as the 34-30 classic -

http://www.itsyourturn.com/iyt.dll?action?stage=1&game=15300050689842

Interesting match - I think I willl trail 21-42 then capture ten in the very last move 2 tie! Another classic!

Around this time ...
