Magius' Palm Reading Lessons

Lesson No. 10: Thumbs

As with fingers, the thumb is made of up phalanges. Also like the fingers, it's made up of three sections, but we can only see two of them, because the third one is embeded in the palm under the mount of Venus. So when the thumb is mentioned, only the first phalange (which is the top or nail section), and the second phalange (which joins onto the palm).

The top phalange represents your strength of will.

The second phalange represents your powers of logic and reasoning.

Measure your thumb from the tip down to the first crease line and write that measurement down on the hand outline, which you have been using in the past few lessons. Them measure the second section from the top crease line to where the thumb meets the palm. Record that measurement too, and draw in the crease lines.

It's best if both phalanges are roughly the same length. If they are, it means ther person is a well-ballanced, level-headed person who is able to make logical decisions based on common sense.

Long Top Phalange - If the top phalange is much longer than the second phalange, then it means the person is very strong minded. While that is good because it gives the person power to see things through, at times they may not want to listen to reason. If they possess a top section that is very much longer than the second one, they should try to think twice before getting involved in any situation. They should ask themselves, whenever they have to make an important dicision, whether or not they have looked at the problem from every angle. Is it possible that they've been taking a rather biased view?

Long Second Phalange - If the second phalange is much longer than the top section, it could be that the person tends to wait too much when a decision has to be made. This is the sign of someone who likes to think about every aspect of the problem, and who lets it go around and around in his or her mind.

If someone has this type of thumb it can mean that they have lots of brainy ideas but find it difficult to come to conclusions. The real problem is that they have too many ideas crowding their mind and confusing them. Basically it means they end up not seeing what's obvious. What they need to do is take a deep breath and a step back to think which ideas won't work because they are weak, silly or impractical. They should throw these ideas out, then look at the ideas they're left with. Write them down on a sheet of paper and pin them to their wall. They should treat them like New Year's resolutions and work at them until they get the results they want.

When the thumb forms a tight angle to the palm the person is usually able to concentrate on their work for a long time without being distracted. Emotionally they tend to keep their feelings to themselves. This is known as playing your cards close to you chest. It means that other people can't tell what the person is thinking. If the person holds their thumbs like this, they should consider taking up a new hobby - something a little different from their usual activities. You'd be surprised how much a new interest will open up their mind and give lots of new things to think about.

When the thumb forms a 45-90 degree angle to the palm the person has a good deal of common sense. If this is how they usually hold their thumbs, it means they're fair and open-minded. It also suggests they're tolerant and flexible. They can take a change of situations, meetings with new people, and unexpected events in their stride. They go with the flow, but also know when enough's enough.

When the thumb forms a very wide angle to the palm it means the person is very laid back. They can be rather exctravagant and dramatic, possibly a bit of a show off, and are especially prone to going over the top. They're lively and great to be with, but must learn when to slow down.
