Lesson No. 9: Rings

        If you ever look closely at old paintings and pictures, you will see that ordinary people didn't wear many rings in the past. A woman might have worn a wedding or engagement ring on her third finger. A man mighthave worn a wedding ring and possibly a signet ring on his little finger. These days, however, both men and women often cram as many rings as they can onto their fingers and thumbs! People wear fings for different reasons. Wedding rings, engagement rings, and friendship rings are all tokens of love. A grand ring can be a status symbol - it shows how rich or important you are. Other rings are worn simply for decoration, to follow fashion or to draw the eye to beautiful hands.

        Whatever the reason a person might wear a ring, the important thing for a hand reader to note is which finger the ring is worn on, for this will reveal clues about that person's most secret deelings.

        Anyone who finds wearing a ring on the index finger comfortable could be rather vain or pushy. Remember, this is the Jupiter finger.

        Those who wear a ring on their their middle fingers tend to be materialistic - they like to have money and possessions.

        It is, of course, traditional for the wedding and engagement rings to be worn on the third finger. This is because the ring finger is associated with the heart. A ring here is a sign or a persons love and affection for someone.

        If possible aviod wearing a ring on your little finger. This finger represents you ability to communicate and it is thought that people who wear a ring on that finger are subconciously saying that they have trouble expressing their feelings. This means they may find it difficult to make or keep friends. If you know someone whose relationships are always going wrong and that person wears a little-finger ring, you could suggest that he or she removes it, to see if that improves matters.

        Finally a ring on the thumb could be the sign of a stubborn and willful person. These people will expect you to back down long before they do. Next time you're in an art gallery, look at the portraits of powerful people form the past to confirm this theory.
