At about noon on 30 Dec, 1947, the Santa Clara, a Grace Lines steamer, ran over a sea serpent and injured it, 118 miles off Cape Lookout, North Carolina.  The creature had a head 2' across, 5' long, and had a body 3' wide.  It had smooth, dark-brown skin.
