51 Males A- Review from Alex Well, I called in sick on the 19th (let's face it, my patient's
aren't going anywhere in a hurry) and was at the theatre before the
box office opened! I was not alone, the line was very large! In for
the first showing! The movie is EXCELLENT, no doubt. The audience
cheered when Scully came on screen (of course, so did I......she is
so beautiful! Oops, sorry, sexist comment). When Mulder showed,
approx. 700 teenage girls in the audience let out a cheer that very
nearly deafened me! I could swear there was swooning all over the
theatre! The story line was easily followed and the finish was
perfect. I was disappointed "the kiss" was interrupted by that
damn bee!!! (I am a shipper, so the kiss, had it happened, would have
been the "high point" of the film as far as I'm concerned!)
I left the theatre to see a HUGE line waiting for the next showing.
The comments I overheard from the exiting crowd were all positive.
Personally, I was cursing the fact we have to wait until fall for the next
season! I attended the movie 3 more times over the weekend and was not
disappointed! (I may end up going many more times.......maybe they'll actually kiss
once! LOL!!) Come Monday, as I was getting ready to do my first autopsy of the
week, I took a look through the storage area.....looking for victims
of the Alien Oil. Sorry, nothing to report on that front, just the usual!
On a scale of 1 to 10, FTF rates 1,000!!!!!!! Cheers,
Movie Review Everyone's talking about the movie. If you haven't seen
it, why not? Aside from some inconsistancies with Tunguska/Terma, the movie
handles pretty nicely. And you have to admit, it's great to see the
dynamic duo on the big screen (not to mention those great guys, the
GUNMEN!). One thumb up, and one thumb that would be up if it wasn't
sprained. All in all, I give it an A, for "worth the two hours
before the first showing that I sat in the theater waiting for it."
Soundtrack Reviews Review by Darcie On-the-scene reports
At the FTF Premiere in L.A. I actually made it to the tail end of the FTF Premiere. I dragged my
roommate, who doesn't watch the show (well, she watches, but usually
against her will), into the area where the movie was premiering. At the
time I had been living in L.A. for four days, and lucky for me it was the
only area of town that I knew pretty well. Anyway, we hung around until
10:30, when people started trickling out of the theater, and then
the people lining the street started getting restless. Our patience was
rewarded--Nick Lea and Laurie Holden came walking out of the theater and
strolled within 10 feet of me. I could have gone over and said hello
and told them how much I enjoyed their performances on the show, but I
was having heart palpitations at being simply within 10 feet of the
infamous Krycek. I probably would have gone into cardiac arrest had I
tried to talk to him. Not too long after he left, I started hearing people yell,
"Gillian! Gillian!" Once again, I got all excited. She got immediately into her
limousine, but instead of turning to the right the car drove straight
and she passed right by me! She flashed the peace sign at us through the window.
I didn't hang around to see David. At that point, my roommate was
making annoyed noises, and I figured I had kept her out long enough.
Besides, I saw who I came to see. Not four days in Los Angeles and I
had already come within three feet of Gillian Anderson. Life is good.
So that's my current FTF story. Unfortunately, here in L.A. I imagine it
will be more "The X-Files: Fight the Crowds" but I will prevail and see the movie!!
The Action! in Nova Scotia
Reade the roving Nova Scotian Philes Corespondent reporting in.
We caught a ride to where Kate parked her truck, and proceeded to drive
to the theatre. We arrived at 5:45 and the movie started at 7. There
were two other women there who were obviously Philes, and they were as
excited as we were. We decided this would be a good time to form a
line. Within 15 minutes it was impossible to see the end of the queue
that snaked behind us. At around 6:10 we were let in and told to wait
in yet another line. We could see that the local TV folks were there.
We could see goody bags being prepared and prizes being brought
in. Hurray. Free stuff.
At this point it should be noted I was jumping up and down
literally. We were finally allowed into theatre and because we were
second in line got some very choice seats (and choice treat bags). We
sent delegates for popcorn and pop and settled in. The local media
gave away some prizes, one of which my friend Kate was fortunate enough
to get (a neat hat and key chain). I didn't even come close. Then
the show began. We hooted and hollered as each character made an
entrance and we were the only ones who did. The next day the local
media asked if everyone heard the voices cheer when those 3 nerdy guys
appeared on the screen. My friend Kate called and set them straight,
and told them those nerdy guys had names.
We had an amazing time. We loved the movie and it was very cool getting
to see it a day before it was released. I hope y'all had as much fun as
we did here in Nova Scotia. Reade signing out. At the Premier Last night I stood outside the X-Files premiere in Westwood - let's just
clarify that I did not see the movie!
Okay, first of all the absolute highlight is that I've finally seen NICK LEA (aka
KRYCEK) in person!!! Waaaaaahhhhooooooooo!!!!!!!!! Damn, that man is fine! And tall!
More drooling later. ;-) I ended up across the street from the red carpet but I
could still see pretty well. The turnout in terms of crowd was fairly huge but not
unmanageable. The set up was for the stars to approach Kevin and Bean from KROQ
for a quick interview - which was amplified for all of us to hear, and then proceed
to the rest of the press crowd. There wasn't much to the interviews, since Kevin and
Bean didn't want to ask about the movie - pretty much just asked people
about how excited they were to be there. Chris Carter said it was pretty amazing to
be there, given that the end never seemed like it was coming a year and a half ago.
I'm going to just write my observations in note form... let's see - I'm going to
admit, this is really Nick Lea heavy. Since he didn't come to the L.A. Expo, I'm just
excited I actually saw him in person and I know he's for real. ;-> Even though
I didn't meet him, I can die a pretty happy Phile, if not a wholly ecstatic one. ;->
I think Chris Carter was one of the first to show. I don't know if anyone else has
noticed, but he has a big bald spot on the back of his head. Sorry, I know that
isn't relevant to anything, but ya know - you never see anyone from the back, and
that's the kind of weird thing I tend to notice. ;-> Didn't get to ask him if he's
come out of the Duran Duran closet, darn. Well Manicured Man as well as Cigarette
Smoking Man were there. Speaking of CSM, someone please tell Channel 4 News his
character is not "The Smoker." How cheesy is that? Yes, his only role on the X-Files
is to stand around and smoke - nothing else. The Smoker. Please. Mitch Pileggi was
very casual in a white shirt, no jacket, looking good, very authoritative. ;->
David Duchovny, as you may know, has cut his locks and is sporting the 80's Crockett
Cut (TM - as if anyone else would want to steal it). No, I didn't get to ask him
where Tubbs was. And Tea was there, of course. I don't remember if he said anything
noteworthy and Kevin and Bean are holding off on airing the interviews until next
week. Gillian looked beautiful - floor-length satiny red dress with a maroon shawl
to compliment her hair which is back to its natural brown. She really is quite tiny
- they always say it but when you see her standing next to someone like Bean
craning her neck up, it's a pretty amazing visual. She chastised Kevin and Bean for
their shorts and shirts.
Oh, and I got Gillian to wave to us schmoes across the street. At one point, she
looked right at us and everyone was too stunned to react. I started waving and went,
"Hey, Gillian!" She waved back and everyone started waving. Not doing The Wave, mind
you. Just waving. No Steven Williams*:-( No Lone Gunmen either! Where were they?!
Armin Mueller-Stahl was there, as well as Mark Snow, Rob Bowman, the woman who
plays Megan Gallagher on "Millenium" and my good old buddy Martin Landau.
*Later I was informed Steven Williams is in D.C. shooting a TV series with Pam
Grier. Whoo-hoo! So, when Nick Lea showed up, I almost didn't recognize him without
the leather jacket. ;-> He came with Laurie Holden (Marita Covarrubius). When Kevin
and Bean introduced him, I let out what can only be described as a pure unadulterated
Durannie scream - the kind I normally reserve for the other Nick. ;-> If you listen
to the Kevin and Bean interview next week, at one point there was only one woman
screaming "NIIIICCCKKKK!!" from about two miles away. That would be me. Everyone I
was standing next to turned and looked at me as if I'd lost my damn mind. You know
how there always seems to be one psycho in the group? They'd decided it was me. But I
was later dethroned by the Gillian fanatic who screamed her name for 30 seconds
non-stop. "GILLIAAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!" You know how long it
took for the Northridge earthquake to start and end? This girl was still screaming.
So Nick still claims he's not in the movie and I'm still in denial. ;->
"Dude, who'd you piss off?" asked Kevin. "Guess I didn't sleep with the right person," answered Nick. I wasn't close enough to suggest Mulder as a candidate. ;->
Nevertheless, at this point, I'm so delirious with the desire that he be in the
movie, I think I'll be hallucinating he's in it anyway. So anyway, in a nutshell even from where I was standing it was pretty damn
exciting. So glad I went. Emile
FOX TV promotion in Kentucky On June 17, I
checked my email and found I had won two of the tickets. I would have screamed and
cried, but it was late and mom was in bed. After unsuccessfully petitioning
various family members to go with me, I had to go with my mom. Yet I enjoyed the
movie despite that. That's how good it is. I was also a finalist to win a year's
lease on an Intrigue, but didn't win. We got to the theater early and I really
didn't want to spend time with my mom, so I volunteered to help the FOX crew. I
handed out promo posters and talked to some of the staff. I liked it, but I had
to stop since I wasn't official FOX personel. Oh well. I won the soundtrack in
a trivia contest. Review below. Only a few people came dressed as M&S and there
was one Invisigoth. Of course, she might look that way all the time, I have no way
of knowing.

In my opinion, this
soundtrack is notable only for the love letter CC gives us at the end. I do like
a couple of the songs: the always-brilliant The Cure's "More Than This" and The
Dust Brothers' remix of the X Files Theme, but that's about it. I find the much-
touted "Invisible Sun" cut entirely out of place with it's upbeat, reggae sound.
"Upbeat" is not a word that belongs in the description of anything in this movie.
Unlike the "Songs in the Key of X" releases, the soundtrack uses primarily one
type of musician and music. All of the songs sound almost the same. I'll take
my "SitKoX Vol. 1" anyday over this.

It was a slightly overcast day in Downtown Halifax, but it didn't dim my
excitement for I knew that soon I would be attending the movie
premiere I had waited on for nearly a year. My partners in Philes
Kate and Mish had decided we would make a lovely matching T-Shirt
to celebrate our excitement. So after I finished my day job of teaching
small children, I scampered upstairs to Kate's office to help make our
shirts. We spent a few frantic minutes trying to make the transfer
paper print properly and then we set off to iron, iron and iron. The
overall results were fairly pleasing. I ran back downstairs to collect
my things and change.

"You're going to change before you go in for the movie,
right?"
"Oh, we didn't know there was a dress code for the movie."
"Of course
there is!" she responded, modeling her dress.
"Oh, Nick Lea was
amazing in Fight the Future!"
"Uh, Emile..."
"Don't you remember? He was the
Cigarette Smoking Man."
"Emile..."
"And Mulder and Scully. He's soooo versatile!"
* P.S. I saw the movie Tuesday, the 18th. I
won't spoil the movie for you, but I can tell you Nick is fabulous as Walter
Skinner. ;->

The Lexington FOX
channel sponsored a contest with
the prizes being a ticket to the opening night and a chance to win a lease on an
Intrigue. Players could either call in when they saw the appropriate message
annoyingly scrolling across the bottom of their TV screens or go online and fill out
a questionaire that anyone who's seen the show for two seasons could
answer. I filled out the online survey and got 10 of 10 right. Sample questions:
What is 10-13? What is the name of the Lone Gunmen's paper? (hey!)
