Review from Alex
Hello from Toronto,

Well, I called in sick on the 19th (let's face it, my patient's aren't going anywhere in a hurry) and was at the theatre before the box office opened! I was not alone, the line was very large! In for the first showing! The movie is EXCELLENT, no doubt. The audience cheered when Scully came on screen (of course, so did I......she is so beautiful! Oops, sorry, sexist comment). When Mulder showed, approx. 700 teenage girls in the audience let out a cheer that very nearly deafened me! I could swear there was swooning all over the theatre! The story line was easily followed and the finish was perfect. I was disappointed "the kiss" was interrupted by that damn bee!!! (I am a shipper, so the kiss, had it happened, would have been the "high point" of the film as far as I'm concerned!) I left the theatre to see a HUGE line waiting for the next showing. The comments I overheard from the exiting crowd were all positive. Personally, I was cursing the fact we have to wait until fall for the next season!

I attended the movie 3 more times over the weekend and was not disappointed! (I may end up going many more times.......maybe they'll actually kiss once! LOL!!)

Come Monday, as I was getting ready to do my first autopsy of the week, I took a look through the storage area.....looking for victims of the Alien Oil. Sorry, nothing to report on that front, just the usual!

On a scale of 1 to 10, FTF rates 1,000!!!!!!!

Cheers,
Alex

Everyone's talking about the movie. If you haven't seen it, why not? Aside from some inconsistancies with Tunguska/Terma, the movie handles pretty nicely. And you have to admit, it's great to see the dynamic duo on the big screen (not to mention those great guys, the GUNMEN!). One thumb up, and one thumb that would be up if it wasn't sprained. All in all, I give it an A, for "worth the two hours before the first showing that I sat in the theater waiting for it."

Soundtrack Reviews

Review by Darcie
In my opinion, this soundtrack is notable only for the love letter CC gives us at the end. I do like a couple of the songs: the always-brilliant The Cure's "More Than This" and The Dust Brothers' remix of the X Files Theme, but that's about it. I find the much- touted "Invisible Sun" cut entirely out of place with it's upbeat, reggae sound. "Upbeat" is not a word that belongs in the description of anything in this movie. Unlike the "Songs in the Key of X" releases, the soundtrack uses primarily one type of musician and music. All of the songs sound almost the same. I'll take my "SitKoX Vol. 1" anyday over this.

At the FTF Premiere in L.A.
Submitted by Lauren
Dean, College of Theology

I actually made it to the tail end of the FTF Premiere. I dragged my roommate, who doesn't watch the show (well, she watches, but usually against her will), into the area where the movie was premiering. At the time I had been living in L.A. for four days, and lucky for me it was the only area of town that I knew pretty well. Anyway, we hung around until 10:30, when people started trickling out of the theater, and then the people lining the street started getting restless. Our patience was rewarded--Nick Lea and Laurie Holden came walking out of the theater and strolled within 10 feet of me. I could have gone over and said hello and told them how much I enjoyed their performances on the show, but I was having heart palpitations at being simply within 10 feet of the infamous Krycek. I probably would have gone into cardiac arrest had I tried to talk to him.

Not too long after he left, I started hearing people yell, "Gillian! Gillian!" Once again, I got all excited. She got immediately into her limousine, but instead of turning to the right the car drove straight and she passed right by me! She flashed the peace sign at us through the window.

I didn't hang around to see David. At that point, my roommate was making annoyed noises, and I figured I had kept her out long enough. Besides, I saw who I came to see. Not four days in Los Angeles and I had already come within three feet of Gillian Anderson. Life is good.

So that's my current FTF story. Unfortunately, here in L.A. I imagine it will be more "The X-Files: Fight the Crowds" but I will prevail and see the movie!!

The Action! in Nova Scotia
submitted by Reade

Reade the roving Nova Scotian Philes Corespondent reporting in.
It was a slightly overcast day in Downtown Halifax, but it didn't dim my excitement for I knew that soon I would be attending the movie premiere I had waited on for nearly a year. My partners in Philes Kate and Mish had decided we would make a lovely matching T-Shirt to celebrate our excitement. So after I finished my day job of teaching small children, I scampered upstairs to Kate's office to help make our shirts. We spent a few frantic minutes trying to make the transfer paper print properly and then we set off to iron, iron and iron. The overall results were fairly pleasing. I ran back downstairs to collect my things and change.

We caught a ride to where Kate parked her truck, and proceeded to drive to the theatre. We arrived at 5:45 and the movie started at 7. There were two other women there who were obviously Philes, and they were as excited as we were. We decided this would be a good time to form a line. Within 15 minutes it was impossible to see the end of the queue that snaked behind us. At around 6:10 we were let in and told to wait in yet another line. We could see that the local TV folks were there. We could see goody bags being prepared and prizes being brought in. Hurray. Free stuff.

At this point it should be noted I was jumping up and down literally. We were finally allowed into theatre and because we were second in line got some very choice seats (and choice treat bags). We sent delegates for popcorn and pop and settled in. The local media gave away some prizes, one of which my friend Kate was fortunate enough to get (a neat hat and key chain). I didn't even come close. Then the show began. We hooted and hollered as each character made an entrance and we were the only ones who did. The next day the local media asked if everyone heard the voices cheer when those 3 nerdy guys appeared on the screen. My friend Kate called and set them straight, and told them those nerdy guys had names.

We had an amazing time. We loved the movie and it was very cool getting to see it a day before it was released. I hope y'all had as much fun as we did here in Nova Scotia. Reade signing out.

At the Premier
By Emile St. Clair

Last night I stood outside the X-Files premiere in Westwood - let's just clarify that I did not see the movie!

Okay, first of all the absolute highlight is that I've finally seen NICK LEA (aka KRYCEK) in person!!! Waaaaaahhhhooooooooo!!!!!!!!! Damn, that man is fine! And tall! More drooling later. ;-)

I ended up across the street from the red carpet but I could still see pretty well. The turnout in terms of crowd was fairly huge but not unmanageable. The set up was for the stars to approach Kevin and Bean from KROQ for a quick interview - which was amplified for all of us to hear, and then proceed to the rest of the press crowd. There wasn't much to the interviews, since Kevin and Bean didn't want to ask about the movie - pretty much just asked people about how excited they were to be there. Chris Carter said it was pretty amazing to be there, given that the end never seemed like it was coming a year and a half ago.

I'm going to just write my observations in note form... let's see - I'm going to admit, this is really Nick Lea heavy. Since he didn't come to the L.A. Expo, I'm just excited I actually saw him in person and I know he's for real. ;-> Even though I didn't meet him, I can die a pretty happy Phile, if not a wholly ecstatic one. ;->

I think Chris Carter was one of the first to show. I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but he has a big bald spot on the back of his head. Sorry, I know that isn't relevant to anything, but ya know - you never see anyone from the back, and that's the kind of weird thing I tend to notice. ;-> Didn't get to ask him if he's come out of the Duran Duran closet, darn.

Well Manicured Man as well as Cigarette Smoking Man were there. Speaking of CSM, someone please tell Channel 4 News his character is not "The Smoker." How cheesy is that? Yes, his only role on the X-Files is to stand around and smoke - nothing else. The Smoker. Please.

Mitch Pileggi was very casual in a white shirt, no jacket, looking good, very authoritative. ;->

David Duchovny, as you may know, has cut his locks and is sporting the 80's Crockett Cut (TM - as if anyone else would want to steal it). No, I didn't get to ask him where Tubbs was. And Tea was there, of course. I don't remember if he said anything noteworthy and Kevin and Bean are holding off on airing the interviews until next week.

Gillian looked beautiful - floor-length satiny red dress with a maroon shawl to compliment her hair which is back to its natural brown. She really is quite tiny - they always say it but when you see her standing next to someone like Bean craning her neck up, it's a pretty amazing visual. She chastised Kevin and Bean for their shorts and shirts.
"You're going to change before you go in for the movie, right?"
"Oh, we didn't know there was a dress code for the movie."
"Of course there is!" she responded, modeling her dress.

Oh, and I got Gillian to wave to us schmoes across the street. At one point, she looked right at us and everyone was too stunned to react. I started waving and went, "Hey, Gillian!" She waved back and everyone started waving. Not doing The Wave, mind you. Just waving.

No Steven Williams*:-( No Lone Gunmen either! Where were they?! Armin Mueller-Stahl was there, as well as Mark Snow, Rob Bowman, the woman who plays Megan Gallagher on "Millenium" and my good old buddy Martin Landau. *Later I was informed Steven Williams is in D.C. shooting a TV series with Pam Grier. Whoo-hoo!

So, when Nick Lea showed up, I almost didn't recognize him without the leather jacket. ;-> He came with Laurie Holden (Marita Covarrubius). When Kevin and Bean introduced him, I let out what can only be described as a pure unadulterated Durannie scream - the kind I normally reserve for the other Nick. ;-> If you listen to the Kevin and Bean interview next week, at one point there was only one woman screaming "NIIIICCCKKKK!!" from about two miles away. That would be me. Everyone I was standing next to turned and looked at me as if I'd lost my damn mind. You know how there always seems to be one psycho in the group? They'd decided it was me. But I was later dethroned by the Gillian fanatic who screamed her name for 30 seconds non-stop. "GILLIAAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!" You know how long it took for the Northridge earthquake to start and end? This girl was still screaming.

So Nick still claims he's not in the movie and I'm still in denial. ;-> "Dude, who'd you piss off?" asked Kevin. "Guess I didn't sleep with the right person," answered Nick. I wasn't close enough to suggest Mulder as a candidate. ;-> Nevertheless, at this point, I'm so delirious with the desire that he be in the movie, I think I'll be hallucinating he's in it anyway.
"Oh, Nick Lea was amazing in Fight the Future!"
"Uh, Emile..."
"Don't you remember? He was the Cigarette Smoking Man."
"Emile..."
"And Mulder and Scully. He's soooo versatile!"

So anyway, in a nutshell even from where I was standing it was pretty damn exciting. So glad I went.

Emile
* P.S. I saw the movie Tuesday, the 18th. I won't spoil the movie for you, but I can tell you Nick is fabulous as Walter Skinner. ;->

FOX TV promotion in Kentucky
Submitted by Darcie
The Lexington FOX channel sponsored a contest with the prizes being a ticket to the opening night and a chance to win a lease on an Intrigue. Players could either call in when they saw the appropriate message annoyingly scrolling across the bottom of their TV screens or go online and fill out a questionaire that anyone who's seen the show for two seasons could answer. I filled out the online survey and got 10 of 10 right. Sample questions: What is 10-13? What is the name of the Lone Gunmen's paper? (hey!)

On June 17, I checked my email and found I had won two of the tickets. I would have screamed and cried, but it was late and mom was in bed. After unsuccessfully petitioning various family members to go with me, I had to go with my mom. Yet I enjoyed the movie despite that. That's how good it is. I was also a finalist to win a year's lease on an Intrigue, but didn't win.

We got to the theater early and I really didn't want to spend time with my mom, so I volunteered to help the FOX crew. I handed out promo posters and talked to some of the staff. I liked it, but I had to stop since I wasn't official FOX personel. Oh well. I won the soundtrack in a trivia contest. Review below. Only a few people came dressed as M&S and there was one Invisigoth. Of course, she might look that way all the time, I have no way of knowing.

XF Stars make the media rounds

DD on Leno 6/11
Write-Up by Darcie

David appeared on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" promoting "FTF." He wore a black Polo-esque shirt and black pants. He did not stay for the entire show, saying he had to go to the premier. When he came onstage, the audience gave him a standing ovation and applauded for several minutes. David discussed both the movie and his recent appearance on the final "Larry Sanders" show. The bathrobe scene was shown. David and Jay discussed the omission of the naked behind scene from the final cut of the movie. David said it was just too scary for film audiences. Jay mentioned his favorite episode is "Killswitch" (sick son of a bitch) and David related a story about how the director wanted him to be more into the KungFu!Scully (or, as David said, FemBot!Scully) fight scene. But David didn't find it plausable to be terrified over his lack of arms and admiring Scully's fighting skills at the same time. As was mentioned, he had to leave at the end of his segment.

David on Letterman (6/16/98)
Write-up by Darcie

David appeared in an olive green shirt and steel blue jacket and pants. On David's entrance, the band played "Cuts Like a Knife" by Brian Adams, who is Canadian. Paul Shafer, another Canadian, might have been giving David a little musical grief over the Vancouver remark. The two Daves discussed the usual stuff: Tv shows that had become movies, Were you worried about the transition, so forth. David talked about the bees and told a story about how the bees had to stop "working" by four p.m. He ended the story by saying he and the bees now have the same agent. Letterman expressed concern over David's apparently poor treatment by FOX and suggested squashing the bees. They talked about Ta, then David brought out a hat his mother-in-law allegedly made. It was a large floppy sunhat with a plastic rosebud and masking tape X on it. David put it on, then let Letterman wear it. Before the running-through-the-cornfield clip was shown, Letterman asked David to get Gillian's phone number for him.. The interview ended with David wearing the hat.

Write-ups of GA's Appearances
by Marie Kung

Gillian Anderson on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (6/10/98)
Gillian came out in a pale powder blue knee length dress with a metallic silver jacket over it. She wore dark pantyhose and square-toed high heeled shoes. T he most not icable difference was her hair. No longer the Scully red we are used to, her hair looked more brown while still supporting reddish accents. Her appearance did give some reality to her comment that she looked like "a Spice Girl." Coming out with a breath mint in her mouth, Jay made her take it out. The breath mint sat on the corner of Jay's table until the end of the interview when it went back in her mouth. Gillian was giggly throughout and seemed to be fine with the experience. We got a recap about how she learned she landed the X-Files on the day her last unemployment check arrived. She told a story that a reporter told her about losing his wallet. He had lost it at a movie screening, and the police officer he called demanded info on 'the kiss' before helping with the wallet. She had one joke prepared. Now that the pr oduction was moving to L.A., the scripts will contain only "80% of the conspiracies" because of the exchange rate. The clip shown was the rooftop scene.

Gillian Anderson on "The Magic Hour" (6/12/98)
Gillian wore a dark fashion suit jacket with a long ankle length slited skirt. The skirt would have been calf length if not for the high heels. She explained she is different from Scully. She's "goofy." She had brought with her a necklace given by a fan to Kim Manners at the Dallas Expo for him to pass along to Gillian. The necklace had hand made individual Scully faces on each of the beads. The faces included Gillian's mole. Magic showed a clip of Deep Throat dubbed into Chinese which Gillian seemed to enjoy. They talked about the issue of In Style magazine within which they were both featured. Magic is from Lansing, Mich., and Gillian mentioned that she once saw the Circle Jerks in Lansing. This threw Magic as he did not know who they were. Piper (3 and a half) is not impressed with mom's likeness being all over the place. She also doesn't watch much television but likes Mr. Bean and Wallace and Grommet. Apparantly, Piper does become writer, director, casting agent, and star of her own productions though. Gillian did a recreation of a story that Piper would make up. These stories are intended to be acted out afterwards. A shorter rooftop clip was shown. This was by far the most dolting interview yet. Yet Gillian did not look comfortable and Magic kept touching her--on the arm, on the knee, etc.

Gillian Anderson on Rosie O'Donnell (aired 6/15/98)
This interview was taped around the time of the N.Y. Expo so she still had Scully hair. Rosie's rhyming intro line was: "Well she's number one. It's Gillian Anderson." She was scheduled with SNL's Ana Gasteyer. To help the audience announcer with pronounciation, the teleprompter read On-A-Gas-Tire; which messed the announcer up. So the telepromter actually read "Gillian Anderson, On-A-Gas-Tire. Rosie said that this made as much sense as "David Duchovny on a water balloon." Gillian came out in a gray Scully pantsuit sans shirt. Let's just say half way into the interview, she stayed more still and had the jacket more securely closed. When she came out, she was trying to hide a pie behind her back. I thought she was going to hit Rosie in the face with it. It turned out to be honey-flavored tofu pie which Rosie compared to paste. Rosie had to eat it with her toy Woody's hat (from Toy Story). This interview seemed very friendly and conversational. Gillian laughed a lot. They had no problems interrupting each other. Rosie is a fan who watches every Sunday. When asked if she's a "health food freakazoid," Gillian answered "yeah." She's sensitive to food. Wheat makes her fall asleep and sugar gives her mood swings. She gave up coffee in the past year. They showed her Details cover and the US photos where she dressed up as various TV characters. Gillian, however, has never seen The Munsters, I Love Lucy, or The Flying Nun. The clip shown was from Deep Throat. Instead of lights in the sky over the air base though, Hanson was playing. Piper likes raggae music, especially Buffalo Soldiers.
*Editor's Note: Gillian was dressed as Morticia Addams, not Lillian Munster, in US.*

Gillian Anderson on Today (aired 6/16/98)
This was also taped after the N.Y. Expo. Katie Couric does not watch the show so the questions were mostly the usual. Why a movie? Why is it successful? GA was not wanted as Scully by some. She wore a dark brown sweater with dark pants. The rooftop scene and the 'dividing' scene were played. She said she tried to photocopy the red scripts. It is possible on some machines. Her first reading of the script was in a two hour block on Chris Carter's computer. The two women apparently had a good laugh fest before the interview because neither of them watches the other's show. GA is under contract for three more years. Katie Couric asked whether David Duchovny is "as nice and smart as he seems?" GA answered in the affirmative. KC: "I like that."

The MSN Online Chat
Write-up by Darcie

William B. Davis, John Neville, Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny and Chris Carter participated in a live, real time, online chat June 12th. First up were Davis and Neville, also known as Cigarette Smoking Man and Well-Mannicured Man, respectively. They answered questions submitted both before the event and "live" questions. Davis maintained that CSM is the hero of the show. When asked about the impact of the show, Neville stated the show already has a major impact and the live chat was proof of that.

There was a 20 minute break between chats and the time was filled by clips from the movie running in real time. Duchovny, Carter and Anderson all chatted at the same time, an unprecedented event. They all seemed tired, not surprisingly since they had been doing media appearances all day. Questions were equally distributed between the three. Carter leaked that William Gibson ("Killswitch") will be writing another episode. When asked about fans, Duchovny replied, "You don't get tired of the fans, you get tired of talking about yourself." Anderson joked about Scully having to rescue Mulder and her dragging Duchovny around.

The online broadcast lasted for almost two hours.

Special Notice
Blackwood 6 Theater would like to announce it is SOLD OUT for all "FTF" showings for the next week despite devoting all six screens to the film. The management wishes to apologize to anyone who is inconvienenced by this and suggest visiting the Anderson Wellness Center if symptoms of withdrawl appear.
