Privacy and Personal Security Links
Electronic/Online
I thought I'd start with the basics-- Yes, these are the same utility-filtering/lockout links, you'll see on the introductory page, soon... I'm working on a *massive* improvement, to my original disclaimer-- It includes links to the Net Nanny, CyberPatrol, and Surfwatch home pages. Some of these sites, will allow the downloading of a free demo-- SO YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE. Protect the little *kids,* first. (They *are* too young to be exposed to the kind of ideas my site presents. Why confuse them? If they are to be a part of the "vampire community," they should decide it *for themselves,* when they are *mature*-- i.e., of the "age of consent," or older. I VEHEMENTLY object to what some of our Kind are doing-- recruiting kids barely in 7th grade, to participate in so-called "houses" or "clans"... Old-fashioned roleplaying, or organizing clubs, is one thing. But training kids to be drunken, violent, sexually loose, drug-addicted thieves and vandals, while tricking them into thinking it's part of "earning their fangs," is disgusting, cowardly, lazy, and contemptible, at best. Just as being Afro-American, has nothing to do with being a cliche, delinquent "gangsta," being a Vampyr, has *nothing* to do with *this* kind of exploitative, abusive crap. If you are old enough to be reading this, but young enough to know you've been sucked into something like this from an early age, GET HELP IMMEDIATELY. It may be too late, to reverse the long-term physical effects of what's been done to you... You might be "stuck" with having the classic signs of a vampire-- You might still want to claim a vampire identity-- You might even still want to brood, and wear black-- But it's not too late, to turn yourself around, and HAVE A LIFE. You *can* be a vampire, and "good"... and *happy.* It isn't always easy-- what is?-- but it *can be done.* Don't give up on yourself. 'Nuff said.)
Hushmail FREE web-based e-mail, with security encryption/server redirection, and the option of going TOTALLY anonymous, NO personal information required. For those of you who want to be both private, *and* honest... Check this out. (Preferred E-mail Provider of Doctor Moon.)
Anonymizer, Inc. Your "one-stop shop" for anonymous webhosting, anonymous browsing, anonymous uploading/downloading, and anonymous e-mail... There are a few sites out there, which offer similar services, but this one is the only *comprehensive,* easy-use one I know of. The e-mail service is free, and encrypted via Mixmaster, but it's not infallible. Also, it's only one-way. (If you want people to be able to mail you *back* to a free anonymous account, see Hushmail above.) The server offers a *free* "trial" version of its proxy-linked anonymous surfing... Highly recommended, if you don't mind the ads which pop up on the ever-present "toolbars" in the free version... Note: Either version can interfere with the loading/display of certain sites, especially ones with (::BLEAHHH::) *fraaaames*... But overall, it's a great proxy-server interface, for beginners.
Crowds A peculiar concept in privacy, based on the idea of hiding one's aims, within the mass of a subcategory's "bulk" or "batch" requests. Doesn't appeal to me as an individual, right now... But it might be a way for vamps, as a "subculture" to get their aims across better, online. Just a thought. I include the Crowds homepage here, in case *you* might be interested. (Plenty of satellite "vamp communities" online, might want to sign up for this service, so that their new members would automatically enjoy some degree of "privacy," regardless of whether individual users are yet hip to the other resource links listed above.)
Yahoo!: Computers: Security and Encryption Just in case I missed anything you might be needing. An education unto itself. Hint: Try searching for software to *protect* your ICQ.
Physical/Offline
Crime Doctor Website Excellent comprehensive all-in-one personal security site... This baby has *eeeeverythang, ever-thang*... Advice on all kinds of topics related to personal protection and crime prevention-- including what to do *after* a crime has already been committed. If you are not up-to-date on the simple business of *protecting yourself,* YOU MUST GO TO THIS SITE. NOW.
Carol Giambalvo's Cult Information and Recovery Has an excellent links page. Just about the only site I've encountered so far, which attempts to assemble a variety of brainwashing/psycho-cult resources, under an unbiased banner. Plenty of vamps are out there, *perpetrating* this crap, or *suffering* this crap, *every day.* For that reason alone, you should check this out.
WayPages: Self-Defense This is a "custom" WayPages search I've created *just for you.* Nice of me, I know... For more information on WayPages, see below, to the WayPages "Domestic Abuse" link, and others.
The Serial Killer Bureau If you can't figure out why *this* one is here, you really *are* dense... Ted Bundy was a *master* of the "hunt to kill" school... He's an excellent example, of what *not* to do... If you don't study the dark side of your heritage, you *may* fall victim to it-- And don't think you're immune, just because you're ethical, disciplined, and "nice." Trust me, many mentally-addled vamps think *nothing* of preying viciously upon *other vamps* nowadays... especially if those vamps, are of a different, more humane, sustainable school of thought... Never mind the "slayers." Watch your back, when you're among "brothers," that's what *I* say...
Mental/Emotional/Spiritual
Hypnosis.com Website for those who practice hypnosis, whether professionally, or for self-improvement. Many excellent scripts for trance induction and self-help. Covers everything from rape/abuse recovery, to quitting various addictions, to developing "a stronger aura." Definitely worth a look.
AvatarSearch "Search Engine of the Occult Internet." Good source for information on means of self-protection based in non-Newtonian, non-Euclidian science/methods.
ShrinkTank BBS A site for all you narrow linear thinkers out there... I do have my biases and my conceits, but I *do* try to have "something for everyone"... This site, is one of my favorites. Lots of informational files and software, available for dowload. Help yourself!
WayPages: Spirituality Rather than be accused of forcing a particular agenda onto the spiritual quest of an individual, I think I'll just offer you this ready-made search, to help you find *your own* best path of spiritual connection with the One. If you want to be a Pentecostal, or a Buddhist, or even a LaVeyan Satanist, *go for it.* It's not my business. Have fun. But remember, whatever you claim to draw spiritual strength from, *don't* use it as an excuse, for being a JERK. Even the Satanists-- the *real* ones, not the punks who just want to kill some cats and toads, while idiotically preserving their socially retarded, malicious lifestyles-- don't like that. And you *don't* want to cross the *real* Satanists. Trust me on this one.
Self-Care and Self-Help
Information/Directories/Resources for Various Issues Involving Addictive Behaviors, Physical /Sexual/Psychological Abuse, and Lifestyle Issues (focusing on Gender, Preference, and BD/Ds/SM)
Victim Services: Domestic and Dating Abuse Link to Victim Services in New York City-- Obviously not much good for immediate local help outside of New York, but has solid basic information, and good links. Come here if you suspect you're a victim, but feel the need for some confirmation, first. Also, try to *find a friend*-- that is, if you still *have* any-- to talk to.
WayPages: Domestic Abuse I think this link, speaks for itself-- Domestic abuse is a broader topic than can be covered, with just the previous link, so I offer this one, for a broader scope. However, I would like to point out that WayPages, is a great concept in online information gathering: It offers a half-dozen major webhosts' informational links, on a chosen topic. The WayPages homepage, offers plenty of "prefab cluster search pages," on many sought-after topics.. Some of these "focal pages," I use here. It beats the heck out of making you, the surfer, hopscotch through all the different major-host categories, for each of my link topics, yes? Oh, ::bow:: you're welcome.
RAINN: Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (Official Site) This is the one you may have heard about, the one Ms. Amos helped found. The homepage, prominently features the 24-hour hotline number, as well as the "Tori Amos Shoe," which you may purchase (as a *pair,* I assume), to help raise funds for the organization. Well-done site, with a noble aim. One of my favorites, in this category.
National Institute on Drug Abuse Official government website, affiliated, I believe, with the National Institute of Health. Solid, but a tad stodgy and narrow. Good links, though.
Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse Impressive, very pretty, more for the person who has an *interest,* but is not directly grappling with substance abuse issues.
Web of Addictions Simple, no-nonense, downright *stern* informational site-- Fluff-free. No fancy graphics, no animations, no pussyfooting around. Good for getting basic information *fast.*
WayPages: Addiction Yep, here's good ol' WayPages again... Just in case the other links above, don't meet your needs.
About.com: Alcoholism Alcoholic addiction-- especially for those in "vampire culture"-- can be more insidious than most substance-abuse addictions, which is why I'm including it in a separate link, here. Do check it out, even if you're a teetotaler... It might help you understand some of the asinine things your "brothers and sisters" have done to you, lately... Oh, and why they have those appalling memory lapses, too...
Lisa's BDSM From the Heart "Adults only." Cute page which provides a loving, tender introduction to "kinky"-- or as I prefer to say, "nonvanilla"-- concepts of physical/sexual boudoir intimacy. Lisa's got a page with the "alternative host," MyBDSM.com. I have a space reserved there, myself, for my more "explicit" material (which will be introduced, later). If you think that "intensive sensation sharing," and "trust games," are all about hatred and harm, perhaps you should give this site a look... and find out how *wrong* you are.
Sir Penguin Entertainment "Adults Only." BD/SM/Ds "megasite," with chat, archives, humor, pictures, etc.
Freeality Massive lesbian/gay/bi/gender/etc. site-- Or as I would say, a "queer megasite." Has links to several "queer"-oriented search engines, lots of links to supportive sites, and the bounteous thrills, pour forth, on and on... Good starting site, for anyone who is exploring "queer" issues.
Global TransgendeRing: Site List Despite the "trans" name, this is really more of a "gender issues in general" ring, with various professionals and laypeople sympathetic to gender issues, contributing their pages/sites... I may join this myself, *deo volente.*
Intersex Society of North America Official website. Good, if complicated, introduction to concepts involving intersexuality. I *trust* this will chasten those of you, who think that everyone who is born intersexed, looks like a circus prodigy, or has problems with "undescended testicles" or "extra chromosomes"-- In fact, *most* of us, are forced, one way or another, to live as "women" by the wrong-headed Procrustean rationale of the medical establishment... For this reason, many adult intersexuals, are intially "misdiagnosed" as trans-sexual FtM. (Because of the "make 'em all females" medical philosophy, naturally only those of us who recognize ourselves as *males,* are going to complain-- Most intersexuals who identify as female, appear to be quite happy with their lot, because they have no *need* to buck the establishment.) To give you some idea of the attitudes we have to put up with, one natal/pediatric surgeon, was quoted as blithely saying, "It's easier to dig a hole, than to build a post"... In other words, for sake of social/medical "convenience," we are *bullied* and *butchered.* If you have *any* kind of a conscience at all, give this site at least a glance. I, for one, am SICK OF BEING MARGINALIZED EVERYWHERE I GO, just because of this *one* issue. *SERIAL KILLERS,* GET MORE RESPECT THAN I DO. DOGS GET MORE RESPECT. *Think about what this means*-- And enlighten yourselves, *NOW*... Or, you may find *yourself,* in an equivalent predicament, in a future incarnation-- If *you* don't take care of it from where you're at now, your "Higher Self," will, in the between-lives state. And your Higher Self, takes certain issues, *very* literally. ::wince:: Believe me, I *know* what I'm talking about.
General Health Information: Mainstream Medical/Science Information, Alternative Health Information, Organizations for Support of Those with, and Research into, Photosensitivity-Linked Disorders, Energy-Deficit Disorders, Etc.
PLEASE Note: In providing the following links I am NOT claiming that:
A) All "vampires" can be diagnosed as having the listed disorders
NOR that
B) Just because you *have* a diagnosis linked to one of these disorders, that therefore a choice to self-identify as a "vampire," is invalid
NOR that
C) All people who have these disorders are "vampires."
Got it? Grrrreat... (I get *real* tired of *stating the obvious,* but if that's what I have to do, to reassure some ignorant or fearful people, that my intentions are UTTERLY BENIGN, that's what I'll do.) Continue, with the *above* statements, in mind. Thank you.
Photosensitivity Disorders Pretty much what the link says. Takes a broad overview, of some different "symptom clusters."
Photosensitivity Epilepsy Explores the types of photosensitivity, commonly classified as "epileptic." This includes temporary anomalous brainwaves/neuro-electrical patterns (seizures, both *petit* and *grand*) caused by glare, suddenly shifting patterns of light, certain colors of light, as well as certain types of "flicker" (such as from strobe lights, or VDTs and television sets).
Photosensitivity (general) Again, pretty much what it says. I'd like to give you a quick survey, though, of approximately how many conditions are often linked to photosensitivity-- Pophyria, lupus (both the discoid and systemic varieties), cutaneous lymphomas (certain forms of dermally-associated cancers, "benign" or otherwise), epilepsy, xeroderma pigmentosum, psoriasis, scleroderma, albinism, fibromyalgia, endometriosis (in its more exotic forms), and a *myriad* of other, more mysterious conditions, merely classified as "dermatoses," and/or "connective tissue disorders"... For a fuller list, see the brief webpage at the link below...
Life-Threatening and Serious Dermatoses Just an "ad" from an online catalog, for a series of medical study slides-- But informative, nonetheless. (Warning: Has a *gross* picture of somebody afflicted with one of these conditions. Browse the page with your browser graphics turned *off,* if you're squeamish.)
WebFanatix: Genetic Resources A handy starting point, for more extensive genetic research on the Web... Many of the conditions linked to "vampiric traits," *are* partly genetic at root-- What this could mean, in the context of "legends" about our Kind, is debatable. *Do* feel free to e-mail me, with your own ideas about this. (But remember, *be respectful.* Don't get us off on the wrong foot, by telling me that there's absolutely no such things as congenital vampires, or no such thing as approximately a half-dozen basic forms of intersexuality... I can assure you, I *do* exist, I *am* clinically "androgynous," and I have *never* received any blood transfusions of *any* kind, prior to my manifestation. So, don't insult me with your ignorance, and then expect a dialogue to result from such a foundation. Thank you.)
XPS:Xeroderma Pigmentosum Society A link for those of you interested in knowing more about the rare disorder known as xeroderma pigmentosum, or "XP" for short. Of course, chances are, if you *have* this condition, you already know about this link, and other resources, too... People are immediately diagnosed with it, from infancy, because it causes direct, life-threatening, painful , potentially permanent damage to babies who are exposed even briefly to the sun... For those of you who either are just compassionately curious, or who need a "reality check" in regard to your own whining about simply being suspectible to minor glare-induced eyestrain or garden-variety sunburn, *check this out.*
Center for Inherited Disorders of Energy Metabolism Official website, focusing primarily on metabolic problems linked to cell organelles. I am doing research on the role that cell organelles may play, in the development or exacerbation of "vampiric symptoms." Any friendly input, is welcome.
Porphyrias Basic information on the two major categories of porphyria. As you may have heard, this condition is one commonly blamed for many legends of "vampires." However, you're cheating yourself, if you don't investigate more of the "rare conditions" links, than this one.
The Lupus Site Information on the two main kinds of lupus, as well as notes on the wide variation of symptoms, in the systemic form-- This systemic condition, can initially appear to be any number of *other illnesses,* because it causes damage, which leads to the equivalent of many better-known illness... Everything from headaches to ulcers to asthma to heart disease to MS or muscular dystrophy, and *more* than you can even probably imagine. Like many of the conditions I've listed on this page, it is *not* curable, and most treatments are either "worse than the illness," or otherwise mostly ineffective. Still, it's good to educate yourself, so that you know what you're dealing with, and have some sympathetic "mainstream support," for your condition... And, if you want to try new treatments, this is your choice. These are strange days. It's a good idea to keep your options open.
PlanetRx An online drugstore, with everything from nutritional supplements to cosmetics to prescription drugs-- In other words, everything found in a major-chain drugstore, but accessible online. They take orders via a shopbot, and ship to an address of your choosing. Currently, they are running a "3 for free" promotion you might be interested in. Good place to get your superfood tablets, sunblock, anti-malarial meds for photosensitivity, etc. Especially if you don't get out much, during the day, and are sick (if you'll pardon the pun) of people automatically assuming you're up to no good, just because you're dressed funny, and you're trying to make an emergency health-goods purchase, at an all-night supermarket at 2 a.m.
Yahoo!: Alternative Medicine Excellent starting point, for researching alternative/wholistic health approaches, for your personal concerns. If you begin here, and persist, I *guarantee* you will find information that you may not have even realized was available... No cures, but some of these ideas, may help some of you, at least a little.
Doctor Moon's Curios and Bric-a-Brac
Fun
International Wizard of Oz Club Comprehensive site, for those who are fans of the Oz mythos-- *especially* the original books. (I'm not that fond of the film. To me, it seems like a totally different entity, when compared to the original stories.) Links to Oz merchandise, Oz contests, and Oz news.
Mad Mod Poet God The only site I'm currently aware of, which appears to be devoted *exclusively* to Shade (my primary mythic metaphorical self-archetype). Yes, as in the aforementioned "Changing Man." So far, the site's not exactly impressive-- But the mere fact that the site attempts to pay homage to one of my favorite comic books of all time, is reason enough for me to include it here.
Pathway to Darkness Due to my having been unfairly denounced, on the basis of vicious hearsay and bigoted hysteria, by the very people I have spent *years* helping in the strictest confidence, no questions asked, no strings attached-- I have decided to only list *this* site, and the one below, as "all-around vampire resources." After *allll*... *gee*... I'd hate for anyone in my old VC online circle, to feel "besmirched by association" with supposedly evil, supposedly wicked ol' *me*... I like this site. Its messageboards are polite and nonjudgemental, covering a variety of moderated topics-- And it has a cute "free vampire e-postcard" service. Send 'em to all your vampire friends!
Nerd World Media: Vampires Nerd World Media's resource directory, for those interested in various topics relating to "vampires" and "vampirism."
FreeSite MY MOST FAVORITEST PLACE for distraction and comfort, when I'm bored, sad, or otherwise discomfitted-- You could spend days-- nay, *months*-- browsing what this site has to offer. It's got free offers of all kinds... The usual "free samples" are here, and then there are a lot of computer-based freebies, too. For those of you who are Monkee-see, Monkee-do, and would like to follow in the footsteps of Doctor Moon, the FreeSite is your one-stop free shop, for finding *everything you need*-- from graphics to webspace to easy-use HTML editors-- to start YOUR OWN HIGH-QUALITY WEBPAGE. Yes, *you too,* can make a fool of yourself on a *global scale,* JUST LIKE DOCTOR MOON. And it won't cost you a penny.
Thought-provoking
Article on Religious Anthropophagy Startling, and *guaranteed* to offend the less-tolerant tip of the "religious right." This page underscores the ancient Biblical references suggestive of blood-drinking and cannibalism, especially in the Old Testament of the Bible. Just something to spin your paradigms, people. You don't even have to *look* at this, if you don't want to.
Article on "Symbolic Cannibalism" in Popular Culture This little ditty, points up what I've been noticing for *years*-- Most so-called normal people, have a lot of "vampiric motifs" in their daily lives, especially nowadays... While "cannibalism" is obviously not the same thing, one cannot deny that the two practices of vampirism and cannibalism, are closely related-- Really, the only thing which separates a genteel weekend "vamp" from a Hannibal Lechter, is scruples and compassion... And even the sunbabies, are closer to crossing the line into either rape or murder, than they sometimes want to believe.
Imaginary Letter Campaigning for "Cannibal Rights" This letter is an instructive exercise in grim, deadpan, "cyber noir" humor. Remember, to a lot of sunbabies, "real" vamps seem virtually indistinguishable, from cannibals... The sunbabies have been raised to *fear* us, for millenia now... And, looking at the track record of some of my so-called "Kindred," I honestly don't *blame* the solarfolk, for being so *frightened to the marrow*... Race memory, is a powerful thing. A lot of vamps in the ancient past, *did* hunt to kill. And, by all accounts, some of these vamps were *very* successful at committing serial or mass murder. (For more info on this, see the "Serial Killers Bureau" link, above.) I suppose that the imaginary author of this letter, must seem no less repugnant, than many of *us,* do, to those who are ignorant of a vampire's basic nature. This "letter," though made up and intended as a *joke,* WILL make you uncomfortable. I guarantee it.
Just plain bizarre
The Real Man's Cookbook So far, this is the only site I've found, which is so aggressively "normal," that it *blows my mind*... Peek at the recipes and commentary, if you want to see the kind of "standard" guys like me, are *still* apparently expected to live up (or is that *down*?) to... ::grunt:: And people wonder why I'm both male-IDed, *and* an ardent feminist... Sponsored by the "Conservative Bookstore." Might be worth buying the actual book(s), for the "humor" value. And, yeh, some of the recipes actually *are* useful, especially for those mornings when you wake up, and realize that not only are you booked up, but the church potluck is only two days away... I've given you the "soups page," as a starting point, seeing as how many "vamps" tend to go off their feed, where solids are concerned, for days at a time... Enjoy. (Still... ::raising an eyebrow:: People say *I'm* funny...?)
Well, that's it for the links. There will be occasional updates, but the above is the essence of what I offer you, linkwise, right now. Enjoy.
