The name Efes is according the Ephesians coming from the beautiful Amazons Queen Ephos. The Amazons where coming from the North-East Anatolia region exactly from the city ORDU. In the mythology are the Amazons ancistors from the War god Aries and the Goddess Aphrodite.
With the arrival of Alexander the Great(aka the Great Iskender)the people of Efes were forced to pay lots of taxes to build the Temple of Artemis. Also a part of the city rebuild on a new place in the valley of the Panayir Dagi and the Bulbul Dagi(nightingale mountain).
In the year 54 A.C the Holy John came together with Mary to Efes(she lived here her last years)and later on also the Holy Paul came to Efes, he baptised a great part of the Ephesians.
