The
paradox of our time in the flow of history that we have created...
is
that while we have taller buildings
we
have developed shorter tempers...
We
build wider roads while we construct narrower viewpoints.
We
travel at the speed of sound yet do not listen.
We
spend more money but have less compassion...
We
buy more of the wrong things thinking they are right..
We
have mega shopping malls and even bigger egos...
There
are more "conveniences" but less time.
There
is the push to obtain higher degrees
but
this higher education results in less common sense.
There
is knowledge to seek but very little wisdom put to use.
There
are more experts with even more theories regarding our problems.
We
pass more laws to deal with the "new" problems
which
resulted from not dealing squarely with the old problems to begin with.
________
There
is more health care but less wellness.
Mental
health is a prescription to be filled at the drug store.
If
the square peg doesn't fit into the round hole...give it drugs or kill
it.
We
have multiplied our possessions and reduced our basic values.
We
talk far too much... while really saying less.
We
only hear what we want to hear... while not really listening.
We
move at the speed of light yet we miss the point of the journey.
We
speak of love yet rarely show it ....
And
often confuse "it" with sex...
We
speak of hate and show it all too often.
It's
always the other guy's fault...he made me do it!
We've
learned how to make a living but not a life for ourselves...
We've
added years to lives and taken the life from those extra years.
________
Man
has been to the moon and come back with rocks...
yet
seems have trouble meeting the new neighbor or co-worker.
We've
tried to chart the outer space but not discovered the inner space.
Religion
is empty with it's promises of salvation after death.
What
about the here and now?
After
all.. you do live on Earth...are we just marking time?
What
about application of those ideals you claim to follow?
Do
we just do what we want... say what we want and then mumble
"I'm
sorry" at the last moment thus wiping the slate clean?
Satellites
are in orbit but are empty reminders of how far we went
in
a journey that should never have been started in the first place.
________
We've
dirtied the air and polluted our souls.
We've
split the atom and the gene but our prejudice remains at an all time high.
We
have higher incomes... but a lower value system...
We
have no respect for all life on this planet.
We
have lost the sense of right and wrong.
We
have lost our connection with the greatest show on earth....nature...
Instead
of living with the weather...we try and manipulate it.
________
We
do not take responsibility for our thoughts...our words or our deeds.
We
let others tell us how to think and what to feel.
We
have become followers and cowards.
We've
become collector's with the need for quantity but run short on quality
or fairness.
To
think for one's self is considered to be bad form.
We
seem to be more politically correct than original.
________
These
are the times of taller people and fashion - plate saints.
A
good look is more important than a good heart.
These
are the days of high profits and shallow relationships.
The
heck with the other guy...I got mine.
These
are not the times of world peace but domestic and foreign warfare.
There
is more "leisure" but less enjoyment or appreciation of time...
We
have a bigger variety of food but less nutrition.
We
are a throw away society and lay waste to everything that crosses our paths.
These
are days of two incomes and of million dollar houses...
We
have perfected the art of broken hearts and become the walking dead.
________
It
is a time when there is much on display in the store of life
yet
the stockroom is empty.
Man
has taken what he wanted and given back nothing.
We
have cleaned out the store once and for all.
So
what is coming is all our fault.
It's
our fault for not stopping what was set in motion.
We
should have said no. |
