In this episode we find out that Angel is a vampire and about his past. We learn about his first hundred years or so when he went by his given name as Angelus (meaning" the one with the Angelic Face"), during which time he was the most violent and most feared vampire around. This all changed 80 years ago when he killed a beautiful young gypsy girl, the most favored of her clan. The gypsy elders cursed him with the return of his human soul, which repressed the demon soul within him. His curse was the knowledge of what he had done as a vampire and the fact that he must still remain a vampire with a human heart and soul. Is Angel someone Buffy can trust or is he an enemy in disguise? And is there any hope for love between a vampire & the slayer?
