In this first episode we are introduced to all the characters. Buffy and her mom, Joyce,  move to Sunnydale, where Buffy hopes that she can leave her slaying days behind her. she starts to a new school and makes some new friends, Xander Harris and Willow Rosenberg, almost makes friends with Cordelia Chase,  and meets her new watcher, Rupert Giles. Oops, guess she can't leave the slaying behind, after all she is "The Chosen One". We are also introduced to the Master (the villain for season one) and his minions Darla and Luke. A mysterious stranger, Angel, is continuously warning her of the Master's activities and that he is planning something big, The Harvest. He also bestows a present upon her, a necklace with a cross pendant, which she wears often. Xander and Willow learn the truth of who Buffy is and feel the risk of being her friend is worth it. Together they all learn that the master is planning to use one of his minions, Luke, as a vessel through which he shall gain the energy to escape the Hellmouth which he has been trapped in since he tried to open it long ago. Can Buffy foil the Masters plans and stop the Vessel before he takes enough lives to free the Master? That is her first challenge upon arriving in Sunnydale. "No rest for the weary."
