A 'Q' entity places the Federation starship Enterprise in the path
of an oncoming Borg cube some 7,000 light years from Federation space,
in a system designated J-25. Initial hostile encounters render the Borg's
defences immune to the Enterprise's weapons - after intervention
from the 'Q' the Enterprise is replaced in friendly territory.
However, this one incident alerts the Borg to the Federation's technological
capacity and it is thus targeted for assimilation. |

A Borg cube enters Federation space months ahead of the date projected
by Starfleet Tactical - within days the Jouret IV colony of New Providence
is assimilated and the USS Lalo is destroyed. The starship Enterprise
is the second ship to engage the Borg, initial attacks prove useless and
the Enterprise flees. After another pursuit the captain of the Enterprise
- Jean-Luc Picard - is captured and assimilated into the Collective as
a voice for the Borg and a companion for the Borg Queen. In response to
the invasion Starfleet ships amass at Wolf 359 - in the ensuing battle
39 out of 40 Federation ships are destroyed, with a loss of approximately
11,000 Starfleet personnel. The Borg ship reaches Earth but before it can
begin assimilating the planet the Enterprise attacks once more and
using the subspace link of the captured Locutus the crew manage to destroy
the cube. |

A Borg scout ship crashes on a small moon in the Argolis cluster. Out of
the five Borg onboard only one - designated Three of Five - survives. The
USS
Enterprise is on hand and rescues the Borg, and after nursing it back
to health the crew begin planning to use an invasive program within its
neural processor as a weapon to destroy the Collective.
But unexpectedly, due to the Borg's subspace link with the Collective being
degraded, he begins to show signs of individuality. Eventually being nicknamed
'Hugh' by Lieutenant Commander Geordie LaForge, he begins to refer to himself
as "I" instead of "We" and so Captain Picard disregards the plan as immoral
and 'Hugh' is returned to the crash site for pickup by the Borg rescue
vessel. |

The Soong-type android, Lore, discovers the Borg individuals. He gives
them the commanding voice which they seek and convinces them to follow
him in an attempt to destroy the Federation. The first target of the rogue
Borg is the outpost of Ohniaka III - a facility with no strategic importance.
274 Starfleet personnel are killed and the USS Enterprise arrives
too late to intervene. A second encounter with the Borg ship results in
one dead Borg and one captive - the drone named Crosis.
After Crosis escapes - taking Lieutenant Commander Data with him - he is
tracked to a Borg compound, where an eventual battle leaves Lore deactivated
and Crosis and many other rogue Borg dead. |

A disabled Borg cube is located by the crew of the starship Voyager,
further investigations reveal the location of a large amount of drones
from the ship - now split from the collective by the same occurrence which
disabled their vessel, they revert to their original personalities, bringing
their racial biases with them. This leads to fighting and territorial disputes
begin.
With the assistance of the unwilling Commander Chakotay the Borg re-initiate
the cube's central systems - allowing them to re-connect their minds across
the planet and form, what they term, the Borg 'Co-operative'. They destroy
the Borg ship to protect the Starfleet vessel. |

sector break down and the amassed fleet is pushed back to Earth, where,
with the assistance of Captain Jean-Luc Picard's weak link to the Collective,
the cube is destroyed.
A Borg sphere is launched from the exploding vessel though, and travels
back in time to 2063, where, followed by the Enterprise-E, it is
destroyed. However, Borg drones and the Borg Queen transport aboard the
Enterprise
undetected and begin assimilating the ship. After a pitched battle deck-to-deck
the Enterprise is almost totally lost, when Lieutenant Commander
Data punctures a plasma coolant tank which releases coolant into Main Engineering
and vaporizes the Borg Queen's organic elements - destroying the temporary
Borg Hive. |
