ASTROBASH!
A Star Party organised by

The National University of Singapore Astronomical Society (NUSAS) organized its first-ever overseas star party, ASTROBASH!, last June 1998. It was held during the university's vacation in Peninsula Malaysia. The observing site is located at Batu Layar Beach which is located about 10km below to the town of Desaru.

This event was catered for novices and enthusiasts of astronomy in NUS where the experienced NUSAS committee lead the participants into a spectacular celestial voyage.
Many could never forget spotting a pristine band of stars, better known as the Milky Way, grazing across
certain parts of the night sky. This experience was a treasured memory to the students as such views were never seen in metropolitan Singapore. The city lights often obscure its intricate form.

However in Batu Layar, observing even the distant galaxies such as the Andromeda Spiral and
diffuse nebulae (stellar clouds) proved to be effortless. Star clusters and globulars also filled part of the observational iternary. On that night, we were treated to a host of local celestial jewels like Jupiter, Saturn (and its rings), Venus and Mercury.

Guided astrophotography also found its time in the dawn hours as stellar objects like the ,Eta Carinae and the Cygnus nebulae were simply irresistible. The pictures below captures the excitement and memories of this eventful star party.
