| There's a Pagan in the Family!?!? | |||||||||||||||||

As a religion, Paganism can be very rewarding, both Spiritually and physically. It can reduce stress, give you peace in your heart and mind, and it can give you a love for life that you may never have had before. Paganism can help get you through some of the most trying times that you will ever face. On the other hand, as many of you already know, it can be the cause of great family rifts and heated arguments. It is because of this that I believe that Paganism, as a religion, requires a great deal of trust.

When a person decides to practice Paganism, they must realize that the path that they are choosing can get very rocky at times. Many may find that the decision to be Pagan brings about a real test of Faith. There will be people that are more than willing to tell others just how wrong they are in their beliefs. A person has to know in their heart that Paganism is the right path for them, because if the heart isn't in it, that person will never make it in this religion. There are too many people that are quick to say that theirs is the one true Faith. I have been yelled at, put down, picked on, avoided, condemned to Hell, and I have even lost Friends who couldn't deal with my religion. Believe me when I say that this can get very irritating, and sometimes very upsetting. It is the choice of each individual to either hide in the broom closet or to go ahead and let the black cat out of the bag. Just know before you even get started that your religion and beliefs will not be greeted with open arms.

You may be very proud of your religion, as I am, and you may be more than willing to volunteer information when asked. This is a good way to be. Unfortunately, not everyone will have it as easy as this. Family members may be the hardest to have to deal with. When they are intensely Christian, you may not be able to openly practice your religion. Each situation is different. It all depends on how much you are willing to take a stand for yourself and your new-found religion. For those that feel that they simply just cannot do this, there is no choice other than to keep it hidden, and to keep your religion wrapped around you. Whatever each of you decides to do, I stress that it is importent to keep your Faith in whatever higher power you worship. It is Faith that gets us through this life with all of it's difficulties, no matter what religion we are. Trust your heart, and remember that we are all different. Others may not agree with what you are doing or with the decisions you make, but it's not up to them to tell you what is right for you. It is up to each individual human being to find his or her own path to Divinity. If Paganism is the path that you are MEANT to follow, then the Goddess will smile on you. Keep your Faith in Her and you will never walk alone. Brightest Blessings My Friends. :) PaganRose Back to Poetry and Essays at Fortunecity
