''Who Laughs Last?''

A tale of nature submitted By: SylvanStag of Arlington, Texas
An Arrogant man walking through the woods
Once spied a squirrel and declared,
I am Man. I tower over thee,
So, I shall live longer.
Nature heard this man, and then it spoke,
booming from the ancient Redwood trees,
I am the Forest. I tower over thee,
So, I shall live longer.
So, the man, in his ever defiant spirit,
left the forest diminished,
but soon returned with fire in hand,
and burned the forest to the ground.

Afterwards, the man died as all men do,
and his remains became one with the Earth,
while seeds sat among the old ashes,
and a new forest grew in time.
